Guess what good thing happened to me on Sunday! I got baptised in the Holy Spirit along with some of my other friends! Kool huh! I was told to tell people so here I am telling you...

That'd be my guess. The only other group that considers baptism in the Spirit a separate experience from regeneration are Holiness Movement churches like the Church of the Nazarene or The Wesleyan Church--but they don't equate it with speaking in tongues; just purity of heart (it has its roots in an odd interpretation of John Wesley's emphasis on Christian Perfection; likewise, Charismatic and Pentecostal groups' theology has its ruits in a further deviation from Holiness Movement theology).

Yeah. I've never done it before now. Me and four of my friends (along with others) did it all at the same time. I can't really discribe how it felt...

Has anyone else done this? Just wondering...

our church is having a baptaism this sunday. We belive in adult baptism and some of the youth is doing it. Where you know, you dunk your head in the water and then they pull you out type stuff. I was baptized as a infant as a Lutheran but I might decide to do baptism soon possibly. Too late for this saunday though

Thier are still somethings I need to get right with God before I do Bbaptism.

I was baptized as a lil kid. That doesn't count and only makes it feal more... how do you say? -> Un-special <-... :shady:

who's stupid Idea was it to baptize little babies??? It's pointless!!! They don't understand!!! Gosh Darn it! I'm sick and tired of tradition. Well that was when I was Eastern Orthadox. YEA. you can count on me NOT following my familie's religion. I wish that some day I can be baptized. I don't really know what it is or what it feals like... But people say it is good. And so I want to feal good too :sniffle:

I will say (as a bit of a warning) not to get too wrapped up in it all. It can be a great and valid part of ministry in your congrigation (if that's how your church works), but I've seen it taken to extremes (just like anything else).

Congradulations though... it's a pretty cool experience (and I've stood on both sides of the issue).

I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit, with evidence in speaking in tongues before. I'm with you. I'm Pentecostal to the core. I'll be praying for you.

There is explicit evidence that the early Church baptized infants as early as the second century, and implicit scriptural evidence from when entire households were baptized. Baptism is necessary for salvation, Jesus himself said it, so it is certainly permissible for a parent to have their child baptized. Also remember that baptism is a free gift of grace from God that does not presuppose any human merit, so age is really not an issue there.

Although I agree with you to an extent (I disagree that baptism is necessary for salvation; however, I believe a compelling case can be made for infant baptism), we try to avoid theological debates here--which is precisely why I didn't give my own take on charismaticism/Pentecostalism (I'm an ex-charismatic), and why I wondered what the heck Volt was thinking posting that screed against paedobaptism.

Wow, ok, I don't know how myself or any of the other staffers managed to let this one slide, but it's definately being closed. I see a lot of potential theological mines here--baptism and it's place in salvation, speaking in tongues, even some old protestant-catholic roots springing up here. And once again, this thread is a little too theologically explosive to leave open.
