the day my town stood still (and flooded :/)

My town is one of those small "yeah, nothing interesting ever happens here" places. And well, we don't normally get HUGE tropical storms that are close to hurricane standards :/ My town is a a valley, but a quite hillious one, with a canal at the bottom. I know our storms is like usually, a heavy rainfall here, strong winds there, hardly ever any thunderstorms... but last night, oh wow....

So, sometime last night I woke up hearing thunder, but half asleep and thought I was dreaming. Thunder and lightning freak me out now since a huge storm we had last year with the sound literally shook my house^^ And it rained for well over a month :/ Last night... oh yeah there was loud thunder but the RAIN?! Wow... i thought it was the sound of WIND that it was raining so hard. Like, no joke it was a MUNSOON (or however you spell it) out there... so did that for a couple hours, and then the super strong wind came and combined it :/ I was freaked out^^ Large trees surround the house, most specifically closest by my room >_< Ended up waking up, and going in the basement and praying and reading some Bible. Although I was still acting cowardly^^ Then the light blackouted for a good 7 hours :/ That was when my step-dad took me around town...

NO STORE was open, everything closed like, the town itself was closed, exists to get out of town were blocked from fallen trees. And the flooding?! Oh wow... last time this town flooded was from a tsunami in the 60s. This was JUST from the rain. Sadly enough, it hit the ghetto downtown v_v Alreayd the worst part of town with the poor people and some of their houses are totally ruined....

Some prayer for my little town would be very helpful^^ It's sad because it IS a poor town since our economy was built on logging and now we can only do what we can with just stores and stuff. And with lots of those ruined downtown, it's sad to see people losing more jobs, with it bad enough to get one in town as it is :/ And it's not JUST my town, it's msot of Vancouver Island and Vancouver (I know a couple people on CAA live around here, so you guys might've seen it on the news or heard about it).

So now, here come the pics (if I can possibly upload them all). But have to reply several times to post ALL of them. I'll try and pick the best ones.

For a town that NEVER get this type of weather (whereas I'm some some of you live in storm-country and are probabyl used it it), and a place that NEVER has anythign "exciting" happen, well, there's our excitement for the next while :/

*shrugs* not that I know of :/ In another city apparently my uncle was driving to work and a tree feel like, right in front of his vehicle >_<

It seems like, everywhere the trees fell, they didn't crush anything too bad... it's was like, destruction definately, but not enough for people to be injured from. A miracle, really^^ But now with those poor flood victims...

Well here in Kentucky, we get some serious storms on a regular basis between April and July or so. Sometimes more towards winter, but those are rare since it's colder. Basement is definitely the place to go. We get the strong winds that push over trees and LOTS of rain, but we also get these tornado things that turn trailers into toothpicks. The National Weather Service counts its job successful if you get 15 minutes of warning for a tornado to take cover. Now, when I lived in Florida, you had DAYS to figure out a hurricane was coming. But 15 minutes before this cosmic cuisinart wreaks its wrath? The basement is your friend.

It's the total opposite here; we can't get enough rain. We've had a day of prayer for rain.

I'm glad you're alright. Yup. Storms are fun. The ice storm we had a few years ago left damage like that, only moreso. And the tornado Mom and I watched spin between our property and our neighbors on its way to go smash a barn up the road was not exactly welcome either.

Whenever I think of flooding I automatically think of Johnstown,Pennsylvania which had one of the most famous floods in American history.

Well the County I lives at the Snohomish County Washington state United States of America got hit pretty hard as well so we could using some prayer as well.

We just had storms with heavy rain and winds come through the Washington DC area and there were a number of roads flooded along with people trapped in their cars and even buildings because of all the rain.
Shift water rescue calls were going out six in an hour and having water rescue teams from different parts of the county where I live responding.
Northside teams were going to the southside of the county.
Roads were being shut down until the roads are clear.

The news was showing some other freak storms that have been happening. Like the one we had was TOTALLY unpredictable and was no warning of one coming, really :/ But yeah also on the news showed somewhere in Australia, actually had a bit of a blizzard :/ Also unpredictable.

Well, as a quick update, the streets that were pictured completely wet, are now drained and everyone's mopping up their stores and restaraunts. Not sure about home owners though :/ Although, still some stores and homes on that side of town haven't had power on yet since yesterday (mine luckily came on last night). Yeah everyone's cleaning up the trees and stuff, but still power surgers (mostly downtown) around town, so it's still pretty unstable :/

Everyone was in a bit of a havac, buying new flashlights and groceries and stuff. It's almost exciting in the "out of the ordinary" sense. Just... something we SO are not used to, nor really prepared for :/ So it's like, somethign different? And really, surprising and shocking for many.

The weather's been kinda iffy today, and another storm is supposed to hit in a day or two :/ They said it won't be as big, but probably won't do any good to the damage that's already around.

My wireless internet connection is already suffering >_< Cell phone was acting up too earlier. That router already causes me enough trouble being unstable, but now it's on and off and on and off :/ Oy... But that's the least of the town's problems. Just one of those things that frustrate me^^

Wow, that's crazy. Thank God no one was seriously hurt.

Where my folks live is fairly dry so we don't have many floods - the last one I can remember was around 10 years ago.

Affects of yesterdays storm are still being felt today here. A husband and wife were on their way to work this morning and drove into a low laying area where water was over the road with a Lincoln Navigator. They kept going until the water was over the hood and up to the windows in the doors.
Well acourse the engine died and the water started coming in.
What did they do. Climb on top of the 4x4 and call 911.
Major water rescue to get them out and the vehicle is still sitting in the water tonight because its too far in for a tow truck to get it.
Now if all I see is nothing but water way out in front of me I would backup and go somewhere else, but I guess if you have a 4x4 its OK to keep going.
But alot of people have done that and someone like me go out and recover their bodies when they wash up somewhere.
