Interesting subject to be doing... curious to know what others will say on here.

From what I remember before I was Christian, I thought it was "just some dumb religion I didn't care about". No reason in perticular, really, just had a "meh" attitude about it and didn't really care about purpose in life, either than society's way of thinking "to get out there" and have a good job and stuff :/

I know I've heard various thing from my friends who aren't Christian. From things like my reasoning on just not caring, to thinking the Bible contradicts itself etc, to simply believing in other things. Oh and also one thign I heard was because of how some Christians act in their radical ways on "this is bad and that is bad!" which soemtimes aren't even bad things at all, really. Basically, the nature of how some Christians are.

The religion vs. science mind-set some Christians and non-Christians hold

The idea that one cannot think logically while believing in God/participating in organized religion

The idea that Christianity is a bigoted religion

because people believe that they can do things without God's help and they don't want to come to face the fact that God sent his son down to die and cleanse our sins and that Jesus rose from the dead three days later.

Some find the idea of God oppressive. As crazy as the U.S. is about individualism, it's no wonder people here are rejecting the notion that there is a higher being in control. I believe this could be said of other Westernized cultures as well.

Because most Christians make christianity a religion of hate and murder and try to blame Islam for all the world's problems, even though Islam is a religion of love and peace.

The biggest issue I often see has to do with the people (like the ones mechana2015 posted). In a strangely fitting example, I present this quote:

"<XnD> Personally its not God I dislike, its his fan club I cant stand"

Perhaps it's we as a "fanclub" that should start proving what it really means to be a Christian, no?

Because most Christians make christianity a religion of hate and murder and try to blame Islam for all the world's problems, even though Islam is a religion of love and peace.

Sure, right... methinks this is better suited to a different forum. >_>

My parents sadly. They are good Christians, but that weren't living the all out, go for broke Christian lifestyle the preacher and Sunday School teachers talked about. I never saw them witnessing, I never saw them invite people to church, we rarely prayed as a family, did not talk God stuff. It just made me think they didn't actually take it seriously, and then I concluded it was a waste of time.

As for others, a gay friend of mine in high school felt he couldn't be a Christian for reason that are probably obvious, although he liked Jesus Himself.

I went against the true God for a time, and it was because I just wanted to do whatever I liked. Then I realized that the commandments that I thought were keeping me from what I wanted were actually there to give me a better life.

You know, something tells me that I should really just let this die, but this is just grossly untrue. Please, tell me how Islam is a religion of love and peace when Muhammed murdered many himself? In addition, please explain how it can be a loving and peaceful religion when Allah can do anything he pleases, including sin? Also, please explain to me how this is so when the sixth pillar of Islam is Jihad, in which one kills oneself in order to murder many others and get a "good seat" in "heaven". And how is it that this loving and peaceful religion swears to kill all infidels, mainly focusing on Jews and Christians? That sounds neither loving nor peaceful, if you ask me.

Furthermore, since when do most Christians make Christianity a "religion of hate and murder", like you said? Granted, there are a handful of Christians who have a very wrong idea of what Christianity is, like the "Christians" that bomb abortion clinics, protest at gay funerals, etc., but this HARDLY represents most of the Christian population.

Anyways, Angel, I'm really sorry to sort of go off on this tangent, and if the thread is too off-topic now, I'm sorry for that too, but I really felt like I needed to get this off my chest. XD;

I recently spent a month in Kenya on a missions trip. We preached in the streets, at open air markets, at schools, and in fields to whomever would listen. The most common response we got from non-believers was, "Not today. I dont have time today."
It seems to me as though there is a misconception (especially in third world countries) that becoming saved is something that takes away from time that can be dedicated to other things in life like work.

To address the Islam comments that have arisen:
It is true that Islam cannot be exactly considered a religion of love and peace as Corrie pointed out, but at the same time that does NOT by any means make Muslims violent and hate-filled people. I know a common problem that is severing chances that many Christians have to evangelize to Muslims is this idea that since we see Islam as a violent religion, we must also instantly think of Muslims as violent and dangerous people...which is really quite far from the truth.
I personally know many many Muslim people who are extremely nice, extremely intelligent, extremely tolerant, and willing to have discussions about religious ideas and teachings as long as it does not start off with a direct attack on everything their religion stands for.
But alas, now I am being drawn into the tangent...if you have anything you want to discuss about Islam, PM me and we can talk.

I think people aren't Christian because of to facts

1: They beleave its to easy. "What All i have to do is ask for forgiveness". In the world today nothing good comes free anymore so the think there is some kind of hidden catch like you have to be a Martyr

2: they find it hard to beleave in something they can not see. Ask them if the beleave in a million dollars even though they have never seen it. They'll say yes because they have structured proof that its out there. Meanwhile they ignore Gods proof and live there lives day to day thinking that a big explosions made everyone with the ability to reproduce and set us the exact distance away from the sun as needed to survive.

Anyways that just my two cents take 'em or leave 'em

I just asked one of my friends whom I brought to youth a while back and to Bible camp, and she said plain and simple "I have no interest in it. Nothing specific though". Interesting... sounds like me before I was a Christian.

I can totally agree with interdenominational fueds.
When Christians argue saying; I'm right, no I'M right, where does the evanglizing come in?

I'm also pretty sure that pushy missionaries that force religion on foreign cultures and people who go from door to door shouting "You're going to hell unless you convert!", put people off from being Christians.

Major reasons that I think people are not Christians:

1. They do not want to.
2. They do not like God.
3. They do not like the experiences they have had with Christians.
4. They believe that Church history is full of violence, oppression, anti-intellectualism, and is anti-progressive, and so it is not worth being a Christian.
5. They believe "science" in itself is a totally sufficient worldview and nothing else is needed.
6. They believe that they are good enough to get into heaven, or that being good is enough, religions teach people to be good anyway, so if they are good, they do not need religion.
7. They believe that religions are social constructs and do not bring any sense of ultimate purpose or meaning to life.
8. They already believe in another religion.
9. They do not believe that Jesus Christ was / is the Son of God.
10. They believe one or more of the key beliefs of Christianity is/are without justification.
11. They have not had the gospel message told to them.
