Anime faces tips

Homework giving you a headache? Math gives you a migraine? Can't quite figure out how to do something in photoshop? Never fear, the other members of CAA share their expertise in this forum.

Anime faces tips

I could use any tips you have for drawing anime faces, sorry for the ambigous topic but I am looking for anything I can get ahold of.

I'm hearing it a lot [and it makes sense]: Study realistic anatomy first. Anime is a stylization of reality, and being grounded in reality will allow you to stylize better. In short, you must know the rules before you can bend them properly, lest you break them and thus produce unsatisfying art.

I second Rai's post. Realism will help you amazingly. Also, even after you move to an anime-ish style, still go back and refresh your traditional art, from time to time; you'd be surprised how much you can learn and improve just from that. And, of course, practice in general. All the time. Nothing will help you more.

I understand about working on realism first and im somewhat ok with that, I just have a lot of trouble getting anime faces to look right. Also thank you very much for that site its extremely helpfull!

Go ahead and take a break from anime to work on realism ~ 'tis what I'll be doing. Anime is just a stylization of reality. Like I said, the better you can draw the real thing [the better you know the rules], the better you will be able to stylize it to your needs [bend the rules without breaking them].
