Advice #1: Don't go to bed angry. At the very least, agree that you disagree on something, but that you still love each other.

Advice #2: Neither of you own any money anymore. It's all "ours" not "mine and yours." Everything you buy, make sure he's OK with it. And vice versa. Money is one of the biggest stresses in a marriage, and dividing it up as "his money and her money" doesn't work nearly as often as it's advised.

Advice #3: If your spouse opens up and tells you something that hurts your feelings, you need to be able to take it. If she can't trust him to listen, he'll stop talking - and that's a bad sign.

Advice #4: (Related to number 3) Don't use each other as an accountability partner unless you are sure you can handle it. No marriage starts off strong enought to deal with that, and lots of "old" marriages aren't tough enough either.

If I think of more, I'll come back. ;)

Congrats, btw.

The simplest way that I can understand therapy is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our whole lives trying to unravel it and ultimately align ourselves with who we really are. Life, experiences, traumas -- whatever -- they all add up to make you some altered version of what you are. So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

Everything Mithrandir said. XD
And, respect each other. Don't take everything said personally. Don't get overly defensive about pointless things. If something said bothers you, first weigh it and see if it's really important. And if to you it is, then sit down and discuss it. Don't attack each other, just talk things through.
Oh! One more. Always pray together. There is a saying "The couple that prays together stays together." Always make sure God comes first in your relationship, and everything else will follow along just fine.
I've been married now 4 years, and I never imagined life could be this wonderful! XD
In Christ,
Dyzzi

Read Ephesians 5:21-33.

Read it periodically and continuously throughout your marriage.

Personally, I think, "the two will become one flesh," phrase is particularly effective in illustrating what it means to act and think like a married couple (see Mithrandir's comments for specific examples).

ok, all good advice. here's some others;

> the best advice will come from your spouse

> don't hide ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING!! (this even includes dirty laundry)

> slow down every now and then to think about them (It reminds you of how much you love them, and, well, everything just starts to fall into perspective.

and my favorite advice.... (insert drum rolls here)

> you and your spouse are one, therefore, if someone is harrasing you/ your spouse, you/your spouse CAN CLAIM SELF-DEFENCE!!!!!... Always work as a team and keep an eye on eachothers backs.

by the way, my wife and I are expecting a baby in late April/early May!!! :)

Good Luck, and Congrats
