Shotguns and Vegemite are two entirely different things. Good grief!
As for Vegemite it's definetly an acquired taste but I know some Americans who love it (the trick is to spread it thinly with ample butter/magarine).
Why's everyone getting so angry at me? Seems to me some people just want to pick a fight. I thought it was an interesting article. Let's leave it at that okay, please?

I've never had Vegemite, so my post about nations being what they eat were mostly tongue in cheek.

Mate, I don't claim to know the reasons, but since you asked, I will give my perspective / guess on it. Please understand I am not having a go at you, just attempting to give some feedback based on my own observations. Thanks.
I believe Americans are getting rather sick of hearing anti-American sentiments. There seems to be anti-American sentiments found throughout the world. The USA may not be perfect, but then again, no other nation in this world is perfect either. I don't want to turn this into a political thread, I am just trying to say that people generally do not like to hear disrespectful comments made about their country too often (even if it is made by various different people).
I think some of the responses in this thread are unfriendly because your initial comments about this topic were perceived to be America-bashing.
My guesswork could well be wrong, but I think when you perceive others to be hostile to you, it may be worth spending some time to reflect on why this is the case. It could be that some of our own attitudes have been partially responsible for triggering those unfriendly responses.
That's just my two cents. Thanks.
And just for the record, I am ok with Vegemite. Not absolutely in love with it, but I think it's not bad.

For the record, W4J, I thought your post was funny and wondered why 'certain people' took it personally. Defensive much, you all? Where is your sense of fellowship that you reacted like that? Wouldn't a lock or a warning have been more appropriate?
Perhaps this would have been better off in the Goof Off forum, maybe that would have avoided this discouraging little display if high emotions. It's a moot point anyway. Water under the bridge now.

Hmm, I didn't percieve this as offensive at all. . . I suppose it just depends on how you read it and what intonation you give it, all that jazz. That's why internet communication is always flawed-- no one gets to hear you saying it like you wanted it said. I mean, if you'd said,

then yeah, I may have gotten a little up ons about it. But as it was, I percieved it as entirely light-hearted and all in good fun.
Anyways, I've never tasted Vegemite, but I can't say it sounds very appealing to me. For some reason, the name makes me think of gross vegetable baby food that is force-fed to infants. But hey, each to his own!

I've never had Vegemite, so I really can't say much, other than knowing that it's banned won't harm my diet. I can say, though, that when I read the title, the first thing I thought of was the Vitameatavegamin of "I Love Lucy" fame. XD Anyways....

I never intended my posts to launch a bash Aussy thread. I simply thought it fair to post some crazy aussie laws. But it seems to have spun wildly out of control now. In any case, no more Aussy bashing either.

An unfortunate turn of events, but I think the members involved have already repented...if their above posts truly mean what they say.

Should we really care about something not too many people have even heard of in the U.S.? My point is that this ban doesn't seem something that is going to really affect a lot of people unless they're Aussies living in the U.S. so to me it seems to be no big deal and we should go to the next topic at hand and simply close this one up as it seems rather irrelevant.
