U.S. bans Vegemite!

Postby Warrior 4 Jesus » Sun Oct 22, 2006 9:02 pm

What has your country done? I mean the U.S. has lots of strange rules and things but this is downright ridiculous (you can carry a gun, but not a jar of Vegemite). How's that for irony? I fear for the sanity of your homeland.(lol)

It's a bread spreading and an Australian icon.

The great Aussie icon - faithfully carried around the world by travellers from downunder - contains folate, which under a technicality, America allows to be added only to breads and cereals.

(Folate is great in helping babies health).

Australia

* Children may not purchase cigarettes, but can smoke them.
* You may never leave your car keys in an unattended vehicle.
* It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as these items are the tools of a cat burglar.
* It is illegal to read someone's tarot, or give them a psychic reading as these are forms of witchcraft.
* Under Australian Communications Authority (ACA) regulations, your modem can't pick up on the first ring. If it does the ACA permit for your modem is invalid and there's a $12000 fine. - Telecommunications Act 1991.

Yeah. America is the only country with dumb laws. *yawn*

Whatever Ark.
The 1st one is no longer true. The second is just common sense. The third one I've never seen someone get in trouble for. The fourth: Sadly we have lots of Tarot and Psychic Readers in Australia (and lots of Psychic Festivals). I've never heard of the fifth one so I can't comment.

This is over a freakin' spreading though!

Oh wait. I have more fun Aussy laws!

Taken from dumblaws.com

It is illegal to walk on the right hand side of a footpath.

Taxi cabs are required to carry a bale of hay in the trunk.

Bars are required to stable, water and feed the horses of their patrons.

The legal age for straight sex is 16, unless the person is in the care/custody of the older person, in which case it is 18.

Only licensed electricians may change a light bulb.

It is illegal to wear hot pink pants after midday Sunday.

You must have a neck to knee swimsuit in order to swim at Brighton Beach.

Until the Port Arthur Killings it was legal to own an AK-47 but not legal to be gay.

He wasn't bashing us. Just laughing at the absurdity of it. And quite frankly, I think it's stupid, too.

I consider sarcastic and bashing. Thus, I simply am showing the irony of making fun of American laws...when its so easy to find crazy Aussy laws. My opinion? Every nation has some weird laws.

Bitter? I am not bitter at all. This is just the second post of yours ive seen in a few days whining about America. (the mp3 site being the other post)

This reeks of a hoax... I don't think it is banned in the US... There was little to no info given on that site about it... Really...

I'm nearly certain Vegemite, as well as Milo and Nutella, can be found in world markets and certain stores like WinCo.

Not really banned, but highly regulated. If you read the comments below the article, it linked to the FDA's official website, here is the link about folate that was provided:

If a can of bread-spread is the "great icon" of a nation, then I think it's time for said nation to get a new icon of nationalism.

I get images of Vegemite soaring magestically over its kill... A poor, unsuspecting slice of bread and a child dead from... bad taste.

Is the Eagle still listed as endangered though? I thought they pulled it off the list a while back. (I may be thinking of another bird or somthing)

Nations are what they eat.

Australia is Vegemite.
The US is BigMacs.
South Africa its biltong.
In Scotland its Haggis.

When you buy these things in excess, all real, meaningful national icons are thrown out the window.

Edit: the only countries that can get away with having food for national icons is Switzerland and Belgium.

A turkey pwns the Eagle any day...at least turkeys are useful...

Of course, if our symbol was a turkey, they would probably ban us from eating them on Thanksgiving... o.O
