Yahoo! About a week ago, I saw a poster for a concert by Suzanne Shu that was going to be held at my campus. I didn't know the first thing about her, but the poster read 'Praise from Two Strings', and that she performed gospel music and hymns on the erhu! I love erhu music (it's a classical chinese instrument), but I've only heard the music on TV or in the movies. And she was going to perform at my campus! I was beside myself, and have been eagerly awaiting the performance.
The music was so beautiful, and she is a very famous (has won international awards) and accomplished player. I think she said she is attending seminary now as well. She gave her testimony (which was also beautiful, about life in China and hearing the gospel for the first time) and at the end she asked everyone to close their eyes and bow their heads, and to seriously consider whether or not the needed Christ. She asked if anyone wanted to accept him, and if so to raise their hand and they would pray. Well, someone did! I don't know who, because I had my head down, but there was someone.
Afterwards the drew names for door prizes, and guess who won? So, I got a free CD.
What is so cool about that is a friend of mine I have known since grade school gets married in November. I know their family really well (the Dad calls me his 'other daughter'), and my friend has a heart for China and has traveled there several times as a missionary. She plans to do her wedding reception in a Chinese theme. I had been planning to buy her CD anyhow, but I got one for free. I picked the one that has What a Friend We Have in Jesus, As the Deer, and a song called Give Me A Heart for China. The artist was kind enough to autograph the CD, and listen to me mention my friend. So now I have a gift for her aside from the tupperware I gave her with my Mom!
Pretty cool, huh?
