Earthquake strikes Hawaii

Earthquake strikes Hawaii, waking up islanders and knocking out power

Good news so far, No fatalities, but major injuries.

The quake had a magnitude of 6.6, then two after shocks, had a magnitude of 5.8 and 4.4.

We will need to pray for the people hurt, familes that don't if their love ones are okay or not and for the people of Hawaii.

Earthquakes aren't something you normally associate with Hawaii,Alaska yes,Hawaii no.In fact on Fox News Channel yesterday they were talking to a 74 year old woman who apparently lived most of her life in Hawaii and she told them it was the first time in her life that she could ever remember something like that happening.
Though it probably isn't too unexpected considering where the Hawaiian Islands are located geographically.

Hawaii is kinda spread out though, what with it being a bunch of oceanic ridge islands and all. Having a moderate earthquake hit one area could leave another pratically unaffected...
Just a logical guess, thats all.

True, yes. Most of the earthquakes that have hit Hawaii have been in the ocean and mostly caused from volcanos.


But to put how strong this one was. The earthquake happen 6 miles Southwest from Puako, HI. Which is the big island.

Honolulu is 157 miles southeast from there it hit. Honolulu is on the island of Oahu, which is one of the farest (sp) island from the big island.

It was felt in Honolulu, with power going out for all of Honolulu, but only a few windows were broken and that was about it.

The thing is, there's water between the islands, so anything like that has a risk of high wave action and possibly tsunamis. It's not that spread out.

Well, they're made from volcanos...so it's not completely weird, but still scary and rather unexpected right now. I have a lot of very close friends there, so I'm grateful it wasn't bad.

Actually according to my father who was talking to a friend who lives on Hawaii (the island) a man who was taking an early morning hike was said to have fallen off the moutain side he was hiking.

As far as i know he died when he made impact. The man who fell isnt someone we know. it was just some random guy that our friend told us about. But the poor guy yeah?

My family lives there. Kaneohe, on Oahu. We called over when we heard the news. It's kinda crazy, I can't remember ever having earthquakes there. But like it was said, it makes sense. Especially with all the volcanic activity there.

That's sad about the biking guy. We'll pray for his family, then.
