My roaches!

Postby Android raptor » Thu Oct 12, 2006 5:51 pm

Well, I finally got my hissing roaches yesterday! I got three males, and their names are Hamlet, Laertes, and Sid Vicious (I was going to name him Fortinbras to keep up the Hamlet theme, but my sister insisted that I name him Sid Vicious). I'm worried about Sid, though. He's slow and doesn't move around much, and most of his antenna are missing (sign that he's old). Anyway, here's a pic of him:

He's really not as big as he looks, but his is my biggest guy. I'll take some of Hamlet and Laertes soon! And I think I want to get a female sometime in the next few months. I think I can handle it if I get another tank for her :P

I guess that roaches are an easy pet to keep? Personally, I know I wouldn't like to have one, and my mom would definitely freak. I guess they don't bother you though. :thumb: Hope you have fun with them.

Don't worry, nothing to be squeamish about. They're clean, and they don't bite! Also, Hamlet:

Yes, they are very cool! Sid is even in my left hand as I type this. He seems to become more active when he's in somebody's hand. So far, there's only been one fight; that was the day they arrived and it was between Sid and someone else while they were in the container they came in. They don't hiss much, either, so that good (means they're used to being handled). I probably need to change the food, though. Been in there for a few days@_@

Very interesting pets. I like the names XD Sounds like you're really enjoying having them.

I'm not squeamish about bugs unless they are big, and those are big; and the pictures elicited a few wimpers from myself, lol.

I'm having nightmares of palmetto bugs swooping down on me while I'm asleep. Eew. (But congrats, anyway!)

These don't fly so don't worry! They have no wings, and they're slow crawlers.

Right now they've got some green grapes, apple, banana, and dry cat food. In other words, they eat fruit, greens, and dog/cat/mouse/fish food.

Aaaaaw. They're so cuuuuute. X3 I am sooo getting one when I move out.

I would get me one now, but my mom would freak. Sigh. I guess some people just can't enjoy such wonderful creatures just because they're bugs.

That's kind of bizarre, yet incredibly cool.

I say you should get some. They're easy to keep, clean, don't smell much, and when there's uneaten fruit around the house you'll have something to give it to. But unless you want babies running around, I suggest getting only males. I ordered mine from this site, because you can choose between males and females there.

Hmm, do they have little hissing roach hats and clothes? (Just kidding . . . .)
