Paprika?

Postby Ally-Ann » Mon May 02, 2011 6:03 am

I've been wanting to see this movie, seeing as it was created by Satoshi Kon and I loved Millenium Actress, but I'm confused about something. When I looked up the age rating on Google, all the tabs I saw said it was rated PG-13, but when I looked at the movie on iTunes, they said it was rated R. Which rating is it closer to? And are there any scenes that would be inappropriate? I'm gonna be 14 in June and if Paprika is alright to watch for someone my age, I wanted to get it for my b-day.

There are two scenes that could be seen as inappropriate.
There are two brief nudity scenes. One could be seen as sexual, but I saw it as fairly symbolic, since it was not titillating/fanservice- it was literally a scene of him ripping off her mental defenses. My best way of describing it is mind-rape, though no sex actually occurs, and it has the undertones of violation. The other is at the end where she's taking in/fixing everything that's been destroyed. Again, it was more symbolic than anything.

I would have no issue showing it to a mature 13-year-old, since it wasn't pointless fanservice.
That movie is probably closer to rated R...I've seen it and there were 2 or 3 scenes that weren't exactly PG-13 rating.
It's not whether you can or can't do it, it is if you do it or not. Nothing comes easy in this world, especially a job or money. I rely on Jesus to get me through these hard times of persecution.

Oh. (._.) Well then, my mom probably won't like that. I'm mature for my age, but my mom is very cautious about that sort of thing. Still, I'll ask her about it anyway. Thank you!

.... I'll probably have to wait 'til I'm a little older to watch this movie, then. Darn. Thank anyway! I would've hated to get that movie then have those scenes come up, let alone infront of my mom. (._.)

I watched Paprika, what?, three years ago. It's rated MC17 in Japan and R in America. I don't know why it is rated so horribly. I was twelve and it didn't scare me for life (in face, I hardly remember them). I actually watched it with my dad. Then I watched it again so I could see the begining. A week later I watched it again because Lucy wanted to watch it (although she refused to watch the nuditiy scenes).

It's a great anime, so once your Mom ok's it. Dive in head first. For now, you should watch Clannad (the TV series!!) LOL I'm funny.
Thank You For Your Time,

I think she's saying those scenes would make her mother uncomfortable/her mom wouldn't approve of. I can understand- there are certain movies I would never watch in front of my parents, but I highly enjoy.
