Anime your parents/kids like!

Postby AnimeGirl » Tue Dec 14, 2010 7:25 pm

Isn't it nice when we young people can watch anime we like with our parents, or vice versa? Or is it cool to know, even if you may not always like the same titles, enjoy anime? List some anime your parents like, or if you're a parent, that your kid likes! XD!!!! Feel free to explain how they ended up watching it!

My mom seems to enjoy anime more than my dad, so I shall list some of the titles she's watched, or that I watch and she got into XD!!!!

"Ouran High School Host Club"
I still need to finish this with her, I only saw the first 2 episodes, but she finished it and wants to finish with me. She told me it's very funny and she'd like to own the complete series.

"Cardcaptors"
I remember this on Kids WB and she'd watch with us. She, like me, still adores this series. Despite it being edited XD!!!

"Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles"
This was a real treat when I first showed her, considering the main stars are alternates of the two from CC <33 And Mokona instantly became her favorite character (she loves the cute characters XD!!!)

"xxxHOLiC"
When I told her that Yuuko, the Dimensional Witch in Tsubasa, is from "xxxHOLiC" she wanted to watch it 'cause she liked the idea of a wish shop and wanted to see more of her character. And she rented it, and I finally decided to watch it and fell in love with it too (I even started reading the manga XD!!!)

"Angelic Layer"
One day I decided to show this to her and she liked it. Hatouko was her favorite character ^.^

"Vampire Knight"
My mom is an ex-Twilight fan. She's always loved vampires and Twilight sort of wrecked it for her, and so she wanted to find a good vampire story, and ended up reading the manga of VK and watched the anime and fell in love with it! Not one of my faves, but better than I expected.

"Heroic Age"
Lately when I have been watching this on YouTube she's been watching with me, so she's shown some interest.

"Fullmetal Alchemist"
I didn't expect her to like this. I was just on the computer, watching it online, and she started to pay attention. And when I bought it on DVD, I ended up showing her the first half of the series IN ONE DAY O.o She wasn't bored once! I've finished Season 2 on Netflix, but I've watched some episodes without her and she wants me to rewatch it with her XD!!! My dad also enjoys this series alot, too.

NOW YOUR TURN! ^.^

Tsubasa, Banner of the Stars, Trigun, Azumanga Daioh... practically all the anime I watch is enjoyed by my Dad at least. n.n
I usually force my anime on my family. It's payback for all those torturous(?) years of Gilmore Girls. Srsly, and they wonder why I don't watch TV with them much. ▬_▬ At least most of them enjoy what I force them to watch. n.n/)

Mum and Dad haven't watched much anime but I recommended some to them. They enjoyed Whisper of the Heart, Grave of the Fireflies and Kiki's Delivery Service.

My Parents don't like any anime, and my older brother even less so T.T However, they listen to some of my ramblings, because they love me ( I try not to mention it around my older brother)
My little brother, anouk8, likes anime now <3 he used to hate it, but then I showed him a fan trailer for Shugo Chara and he watched it XD He then was forced to admit that anime wasn't dumb and he watched the rest of the series, though the ending dissapointed both of us (the manga ending was good though, but he showed no interest in reading it) He's now into Naruto and loves it, and also FMA and FMA:b.
I'm so glad ^_^

My dad is into some of the series that my brother and I watch- he watched Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex with us! That was pretty awesome :)

Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky are the ones that my mom seems to enjoy, though she's never outright said that she likes them. She's also seen Haibane Renmei with me, though she didn't comment except when I put the disks away- she asked why I wasn't putting the next disk in.

Now, my brother and I enjoy a lot of the same series- we LOVED Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, are planning on watching Kiki's Delivery Service when we put up the Xmas tree, like Princess Mononoke (he likes that one more than I do, but I still enjoy it), Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Rideback, Last Exile, Ouran Host Club, Detective Academy Q, Real Drive, El Cazador De La Bruja, My Hime, Mai Otome, Full Metal Alchemist, and a few others that we can't remember at this point!

I don't have any children of my own, but I do have innumerable nephews and nieces, whom I keep supplied with books and anime. The younger ones all enjoy Sugar, a Tiny Snow Fairy, Binchou-tan and Bottle Fairy. The older ones will be getting Moribito for Christmas this year. One nephew, when he was five, discovered Serial Experiments Lain in his father's collection. He says that it is still his favorite.

My mother liked Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star and Ichigo Mashimaro.

Although subtitles make her sleepy and I have to keep waking her up :D

Haven't watched anything recently with her though, although she walked in on me all teary from a certain scene in Clannad a while ago and asked me if it was really that sad. So I played just that scene for her and even without knowing any of the context she was bawling like a baby.

My dad, having spent his childhood in 1970's-80's Philippines, loves mecha anime such as Voltes V, Mazinger Z, Danguard Ace, Macross and Daimos. He and I both like Rurouni Kenshin and Gate Keepers.

My mom, while not very familiar with anime, still takes the time to watch some of them with me.

I don't have any family in the area that watches anime... I've told my mom about a couple, but she's never actually gotten into it. She finds the stories interesting, but she's never actually watched any anime or read any manga. XD Except Pokemon with me, when I was a little kid.

So, I pretty much watch anime on my own... And then just discuss it with friends, or family that lives out of state.

My mom's like that too! I've learned not to try to watch something with her after 8:00 p.m. or so

So, my mom's an anime fan, my dad not so much. My whole family, minus my dad, are big Miyazaki fans. When I noticed how much she liked them, I decided to try showing my mom some anime series.

I've watched FMA, FMA: Conqueror of Shamballa, FMA: Brotherhood, Haibane Renmei, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, and Death Note (plus the live-action movies) with my mom, and she loved them all. I've tried twice to get through Trigun with her, but we keep on getting stuck around episode ten for some reason  And it's not for lack of interest, either; my mom read all of the Trigun and Trigun Maximum manga (and agreed with me that most of the time it was impossible to tell what was going on). I'm determined to get through it with her eventually >:|

My parents aren't very Anime savvy.
I don't exactly reveal my power level or talk about it nowadays, but everyone in my family knows I obviously watch the stuff as I've got a few figmas, revoltechs, and a couple PVC statues in my room. Not to mention I usually have a simple background for my desktop with some kind of relation to a show I've watched.

My Dad watched the first episode of Cowboy Bebop. I don't know if he'll continue or not, though I know it's a series he'd enjoy if he sees it through to the end. Coupled with Trigun and a few other shows, he'd be able to get into it very easily as we share similar tastes in movies most of the time.

My Mom might like some of my rom coms, but I don't know if she'd ever sit down to watch one through. She'd probably leave with a bad impression after only a couple episodes if she ever did try. (Clannad

My sisters... One of them detests anime with a passion and the other generally doesn't care much, though she used to love Totoro in the past. The former sister watched an episode of Death Note but couldn't get around reading the subtitles quick enough and was expecting Disney-level animation. (She also watched a couple episodes of a none-existent anime thanks to her enjoying a particular fighting game.)
