Seiyuu That Weren't Mentioned in the 151 Seiyuu Song

As the title would suggest, here's a thread for the seiyuu that didn't make it into the song that blkmage is using for his seiyuu thread. Most of these will be guys, because, let's face it, that song was pretty heavily weighted toward the female side of the seiyuu spectrum. I just may throw you for a loop, though, so keep your eyes open!

For the most part, I'll continue with the format blkmage used for his thread, since I think it works really well...but with a few little tweaks of my own. I'll give a list of the roles that I know the seiyuu for, with a pic for each, if I can find it. Feel free to chime in with your own favorite roles, pics and/or anecdotes about the seiyuu, as well. And feel free to fangirl/boy away! As always, have fun and keep it clean!!

Our first seiyuu that didn't get a mention, and one that I'm sure most of us are aware of:

This man is a hard one to pin down. Known for playing goofy, sweet charmers, sinister, amoral tricksters, a spazzy, OCD shinigami, and a few moody, not-quite-humans, he's got quite the repertoire of roles under his belt, so I may not be able to fit all the roles that I like him for on here. Not to mention the fact that he is also quite the talented singer...and has the rare distinction among seiyuu of being as good-looking as the guys he voices!

He'll probably be the seiyuu with the longest list of roles, so don't worry, they won't all be this big!

Characters Mamo-chan has played:

Tamaki Suoh from Ouran High School Host Club - The first role I ever heard him in, and I became an instant fan. He completely nailed Tamaki - the sweet, generous, zany, but kinda....dense Host Club King.

Light Yagami from Death Note - And hearing him play Light is one of the main reasons I wanted to watch Death Note. I couldn't believe it when I heard Tamaki's voice coming out of Light's mouth - and actually, it took me a few minutes before I even recognized him. He plays Light's chilling, calculated arrogance brilliantly.

Ling Yao from FMA: Brotherhood - I was SO excited when I heard that Mamo-chan was going to voice Ling! And he certainly didn't disappoint. I only wish that we could have heard more of him.

Kiba from Wolf's Rain - Yet another anime that I got into because, among several other things, Mamo-chan was in the cast.

Zero and Ichiru Kiryuu from Vampire Knight - And in this anime he played twins, managing to make them sound alike, yet very distinct. And wow, does he play angsty, emo young men well...

Death the Kid from Soul Eater - A character who is both cool and calculating, and also a complete spaz, and he makes it work oh-so-well.

Moondoggie from Eureka Seven - He cracks me up as this character! And I loved the commentary he gave on this one. A very fun role that again, I only wish we heard more of.

Mamoru Miyano is pretty great. Lin(g) was awesome awesome awesome, Tamaki was great as well. Kid was okay, I didn't dislike him, but I didn't like him as much as his roles as Ling or Tamaki, though maybe that's because I'm not a huge fan of Kid. I haven't heard his other roles, but I am curious to hear him as Moondoggie, who is pretty hilarious in how big a dork he is.

It's only the second seiyuu in the thread, and already I have a guest host. Ich1990 did just about all the work on this, so credit goes to him! I just made the pics thumbnails so it wouldn't be so bulky to view for those of us with slower internet connections. Just click on the pics to see the larger versions. And I made one little addition of my own favorite role of this particular seiyuu at the end. The rest, though, is his!

So, without further ado, Ich1990 and I give you....

Hooray for old people in anime! This guy has a distinctive, deep voice that lends itself well to villains and dangerous side characters. He has been in the VA business for almost three decades now, and during that time has performed dozens of roles. Chances are, if you watch anime you have heard him--even if you didn't realize it at the time.

Some of his better known roles:

Alucard from Hellsing and Hellsing Ultimate. This is the first role I ever heard him in. I didn't take much note of him at the time, but I did appreciate how well it fit Alucard's hardcore persona. Alucard meets the Queen.


The Count from Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Christo. This was the first show I actually noticed him in. I can't say much more, other than it proves that he can do classy just as well as he can do insane bloodsucker. His French isn't that bad either. (Warning, out of context spoilers)


Baishin, the main villain from the Bleach OVA The Sealed Sword Frenzy. I haven't ever seen it, but it is Bleach so it must be popular. This was the only video I could find that with him that wasn't a poorly made AMV


Araya Souren from the Borderline of Emptiness (Kara no Kyoukai) movies. A villain, I would presume.


Goldsmith Amshel from Blood+.


Diethard Ried from Code Geass.


And many, many more.

I found it interesting that Miyano got his start in Kingdom Hearts as Riku. If I'm not mistaken, I think Irino Miyu (Sora) also started off with Kingdom Hearts and Uchiyama Kouki (Roxas) also did and has shown up in anime recently. His role I enjoyed the most was actually as Gundam 00's Setsuna F. I AM GUNDAM Seiei.

Nakata Jouji is probably typecast like crazy, which is why I enjoyed his appearance on Working!! a lot. Also, given that he's voiced Araya Souren and Kotomine Kirei, I'm surprised he didn't hit three for three for Type-Moon villains with Nrvnqsr Chaos.

I saw him first in Tenimyu (didn't know Nate had seen those! XD), and even though Ishida is totally an uninteresting throwaway character, Mamo-chan totally stands out. He may be typecast into attractive suave characters, but he is DARNED GOOD AT IT.

Jun initially seemed to gravitate towards hyper young heroes, or generally nice guys, and not really making that much of an impact...until Code Geass came along. That show shot him into seiyuu superstardom as Lelouch - a role unlike any other he'd done up to that point. His repertoire has expanded quite a bit since then, but for many people, Lelouch is what he will forever be known for. Jun is also, if the commentaries for xxxHolic and Code Geass are any indication, a pretty hilarious guy.

Characters Jun has played:

Lelouch from Code Geass - Just to start things off with a bang. According to the CG commentaries, Jun was chosen to play Lelouch because he had a voice that "sounded kind, no matter what he said." To which Jun quipped something like, "oh thanks! But putting my personality aside..." Just why that's significant is probably pretty spoileriffic, so let's just say that there's a reason people compare Lelouch to Light in Death Note so often...


Kazuki from Buso Renkin - The first role I really started paying attention to Jun, way before I ever saw Code Geass. Buso Renkin wasn't really my cup of tea, though it was entertaining, but I couldn't help but like Kazuki a lot. Probably has something to do with that quality of his voice that the director of Code Geass responded to.


Watanuki Kimihiro from xxxHolic - Watanuki will probably forever be my favorite Jun role. And actually, I'm nearly 100% sure that his performance is why I love Watanuki so much as a character. It's definitely why I decided to look into the TV series, after having seen the movie. Even now, reading the manga (in English, of course) it's Jun's voice I hear as the spazzy, but good-hearted protege of the Dimensional Witch. Watanuki is a character that could easily be intensely irritating, but in Jun's hands he's incredibly likeable, imo.


Shinra from Durarara!! - Well, being a fan of mad scientist types (points to signature) it was pretty obvious I was going to love Shinra. And I do. Muchly.


Lawrence Kraft from Spice and Wolf - Probably a bit overshadowed by the sheer force of nature that is Holo, Jun's performance in this show was a great foil to the crafty wolf-goddess from the North. The chemistry between the two is magical.

These are just some of his more noteworthy roles. Jun has become rather prolific recently, so there are lots more. Feel free to add any that I skipped over!

Shinra! That is definitely my favorite role from him, though Lawrence is good, and he hits Gauche perfectly. He might even get more than two episodes as Gauche in Reverse too!

Kyaah!! Jun Fukuyama! I loved his role as Watanuki in xxxHOLiC! At first, when watching this anime in it's original Japanese, I did not enjoy it as much as the dub, but after watching all of xxxHOLiC Kei, I started to better love Jun's voice on Watanuki, and he did a marvelous job! Still like dub over sub, though, but now I like Watanuki's seiyuu equally as his dub voice *nods*. And....wow, Jun is....CUTE in that picture!!! Am I the only one who thinks he has a Watanuki-ish look about him? O.O

I may be the odd one out here, but I absolutely hate Fukuyama Jun's voice. It really grates on my nerves. Sadly (for me, anyway), he seems to be in a lot of the shows I choose to watch. I was especially ticked off when I realized he was going to be Tokidoki in Amatsuki, because I have a great love for Toki. =(

Best role to date is definitely Lawrence.

Once you're able to listen for seiyuu, Fukuyama Jun is a really easy one to pick out. Even when he voices minor characters, there's something about his voice that makes it really easy to notice. Even back when I didn't really know who he was, when I was watching Kimikiss, I noticed that the guy he was playing sounded really familiar.

Our next seiyuu isn't quite as well known as the previous ones, but he's one of my all time favorites. I give you...

Kenta Miyake has a big voice. And he voices big guys. And now that I think about it, most of the roles I've heard him in his character has been scarred in some way, too. He certainly doesn't play the same character each time, though. Known for dopey gentle giants as well as hardened, streetsmart wise guys and modern, ancient and fantasy warriors.

Big Guys Kenta Miyake has been:

Scar from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Ironic in that, before there was even a hint that Brotherhood was going to be made, I'd always thought KM would make a good Scar. So when I saw the seiyuu changes for the new FMA I was pretty stoked. And an awesome Scar he is, too!!


Randel Oland from Pumpkin Scissors - He may be a giant with a scarred face, but that's about where the similarities between this guy and Scar end. And though he has his moments, for the most part Randel is the sweetest guy you could ever meet. Proving Kenta can pull off gentle and goofy just as well as he can edgy anti-hero.


Tsume from Wolf's Rain - Tsume is probably more well known in the English speaking world as being voiced by Crispin Freeman, but I loved Kenta's Tsume oh-so-much. And it was fun to hear him talk about how he felt towards this character in the extras of the DVDs for Wolf's Rain. It seems he's quite the mother hen.


Tsuna from Otogi Zoshi - a role that most people have probably never heard him as, since the anime itself isn't very well known. Which is a shame, since it's my favorite of his roles. Kind of a blend of all three of the previously mentioned roles, along with having to voice a character from ancient Japan, and his modern day reincarnation.

Known for hammy, hyperactive, manly, loud characters, and especially popular as the "big brother" in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann that every shy kid wishes (s)he had.

Probably the role that he's most known for, he gave an amazing performance as Kamina. Heroic, zany, generous, affectionate and very, very entertaining. :thumbsup:

All the over the top hamminess of Kamina...just channeled in an entirely different direction. And it is incredibly funny.

Yeah, he's pretty hilarious in this role. Personally, I was really excited that he was the voice of my own, a-dork-able nation-tan. And he definitely didn't disappoint!


Touya from Ayashi no Ceres
One of the first roles I ever heard Katsuyuki Konishi in. And you couldn't get more different from Kamina or Komui if you tried! But he does brooding, intense romantics just as well as he does zany, over the top "manly men."

Mamoru Miyano - You know, it's not like I pay lots of attention, but I never would have realized he did all those roles if I hadn't looked it up. His voice doesn't have this "lolol that's totally him" flair like some people, if you ask me. I loved his work as Light Yagami, Ling Yao, and Kiba. Three very different guys....

Jouji Nakata - Of the roles mentioned, the only ones I've seen are the Count and Folken. I remember they both had nice, deep, rich voices. And I just looked this guy up, and he's apparently in the first FMA series, in episode 9, as...Borling? Okay, I'm a huge freak-fan of FMA and am very familiar with the show, but...who the heck is Borling?! Unless...wait...do they mean Halling, the owner of the Youswell inn? How you get "Borling" from what they say in the Japanese....

Jun Fukuyama - Know him as Kazuki, and Albert from Gankutsuou. I didn't notice anything spectacular about his voice, except that I feel really sorry for all the long yells he had to do in Busou Renkin I've noticed that he does a lot of roles in animes that I plan on seeing, but haven't seen yet....

Kenta Miyake - Well, I know him as Scar- WAIT WHAT?!!!!! HE DID GARFIEL?!!! *dies* DX Anyone who's seen Brotherhood or read the manga will know why this is so shocking.... Anyway, I also know him as Tsume. I loved him in both those roles; he has a very strong, tough voice (when he's not Garfiel, at least <_<)

I'm familiar with Daisuke Namikawa because of his sweet, funny, light characters...though sometimes those roles become a lot more deep as they go. *cough*Fai*cough* And then, there's Ulquiorra from Bleach...

Characters Daisuke Namikawa has been:

Italy from Axis Powers Hetalia - His Italy is so adorable! You can tell he was having a blast doing this role, too. And the ending theme...REALLY grows on you.


To Eigetsu from Saiukoku Monogatari - Eigetsu is probably my favorite character from Saiunkoku, and a lot of that has to do with Daisuke Namikawa's performance as him. And I'm pretty sure he's Yogetsu's voice, too, though I've never found any official confirmation of that anywhere?


Ulquiorra from Bleach - I have never actually seen an episode of Bleach. I just stumbled across this while doing research for this post, and was completely blown away at just how different he sounds from any other character I've ever heard him voice. You'd never guess he was the same guy that plays Italy.


Fai D. Flourite from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles - I saved the best for last. I don't know if Fai was the role that made Daisuke Namikawa famous, but it's sure what brought him to my attention! And he gets to display quite a range in just this one character. Fai at first seems just as light and silly as Italy...but there's an awful lot of tragic backstory that gets revealed, and Fai becomes one of the deeper roles in the whole series. And Daisuke Namikawa played it all beautifully. I adore him in this role.
