I was watching Full Metal Panic! Second Raid, and on the second episode there was a scene where two girls where completly naked. Not only did I fine it annoying but I also found it distracting to the story. So again I will ask, why do they insist on doing this? It really iritates me.

There's a relatively simple answer to your question: the animators and much of the audience want it there. Remember that not everyone shares Christian values.
However, I doubt you're really asking that question so much as bemoaning the fact that many series include gratuitous sexual content. That's probably an unavoidable aspect of the world, so long as humans are generally crude creatures. To a limited degree you can vote with your dollars and attention, but otherwise it's best to find ways to cope. This is especially true with a series like Full Metal Panic, where the formula is always part fanservice, part "comedy," and part action.

hah that's exactly why I didn't pick up the FMA boxset at WalMart... even when it was on sale... >_< *sigh* I know what you mean though as to nudity. I can recommend Wolf's Rain, and Death Note as being nudity free. Please keep in mind these animes do contain language and deep subject matter however.
If you're looking for a place to find good anime reviews, for content and the like, I recommend here at CAA in their reviews section and
http://www.themanime.org... good luck finding whatever you're looking for if you need a new series.. also don't forget our "Anime Recommendations thread".

I actually see nothing wrong with nudity for art's sake. Meaning if it's in a scene where you'd expect someone to be naked. For example, if someone's taking a bath or making love. But if it's done purely for fan service, then I have trouble.

i would say just ignore it if it really has nothing to do with the story ^^
Alsooooooooooooo, to put bluntly... It's to bring all the boys (and girls) to the yard o.O Sometimes, it's also to show that just because they're anime characters, they have actual realistic emotions. Such as, being tempted by the opposite sex.
That last part may be a bit deep, but.. yeah xDD

Not to intrude on what you're comfortable with, but you do understand that the nudity in FMA is purely circumstantial? Brief as it is, it's a far cry for anything intended as fanservice.

I only have what my reviews say so whenever a series has "nudity" mentioned and doesn't elaborate I decide to err on the side of caution.... besides I have a 13 year old younger brother in the house that tends to want to watch my anime (I can decide not to let him but it's a hassle to explain why to my parents) I have to clear things with my parents before I buy them so yeah.. .Code Geass was stretching it (especially episode 24 season 1) *my brother doesn't watch that one* anyways off-topic
Nudity doesn't bother me when it's circumstancial... however the sex scenes I would prefer things being implied... *shrugs* that's just my opinion.

FMA has very little nudity and what little there is is, as Fish and Chips said, is not meant to lead anyone astray. Sexuality in that anime is pretty much ALL implied. You see a guy lying in bed covered up with his wife for a second once and that's it.

Might have been an accidental typo. The original poster was complaining about FMP, which has more fanservice (not by a lot, and most of it 'barbie-doll', but it is more) than FMA.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering. Never heard of anyone bothered about nudity in Full Metal
Alchemist which basically approaches insignificance anyway. And I doubt this is the first time someone got the acronyms mixed up.

Lol, it's alright. There was once a time where I thought FMP was some type of spinoff of FMA xDD;
So.. nudity...Thinking of a way to get this thread back on track is hard xDD;

It does irritate me too
I just try not to watch the ones with that in it,
or if I really love the anime, I ignore it or if its a really inappropriate scene I go throw it if i can. unless it is a really important scene

I was annoyed with FMP:TSA but for more than just that. I'd seen the original FMP and Fumofu on DVD. I was expecting TSA to be like the original, but I found it to be over the top in all areas. Disturbingly violent/full suggestive nudity and the villain stereotypes ludicrously pushed to maximum (why do they all have to be silent stoic assassins or raving lunatics?).
It's one thing to have a show which has always contained an 'R' level of content, but to escalate a show which was previously more 'PG-13' level...well, triggered a vulgar response in my opinion of it.

Wow, I was about to say FMA doesn't really have any nudity. If there was any in there, then I totally missed it or something.
But yeah, nudity in anime is due to man's sinful nature primarily. This goes for not only fanservice from the fan standpoint, but also good ratings from the directors standpoint.

Second Raid had to add nudity, among other elements, to make the show seem darker, grittier, and more real. While the elements used can be used well, in this case, it was an attempt to overcome the inferior quality of the writing compared to the original Full Metal Panic.

I wish that our rating system had a better way to describe nudity as simply "nudity."
I've seen tasteful nudity in anime.
I've also seen trashy, fanservicey bouncing nonsense.
I realize that for some people, any kind of nudity can be a turnon, but when I'm looking for anime or manga, I often am deterred by the claim of "nudity" on the rating blurb.
But yeah, as far as fanservicey nudity goes, I hate it too.
Mostly, it's because it makes me feel gross staring at naked people (usually women) and even for me, it can be a turn-on. It also sucks because it severely limits the shows I can watch without getting horribly depressed and insecure because I don't look perfect. Not to mention, how am I supposed to watch my favorite shows with my guy friends if they contain so much fanservice? It sucks...

I think that we should make a list of nudity free anime somewhere on the site...
have it categorize by maturity level or something obviously for the other content.

Actually, in our reviews section, the link to which you'll find at the top of this page, we have an entire section full of reviews on both anime and manga, and both nudity and sexual content are addressed there as separate entities. Maybe that'll give you what you're looking for?

I think tha nudity is ok if its for comic relife. Example: Kenshin accldently walks in Kalrou when she's tacking a bath. Its bad when its used for scencless reasons tought. Example: Afro Samori s*x scean. It just depends on the sicution

Well, IMO, nudity for comic relief is a lot like dirty jokes.
It doesn't necessarily become okay if it's just "to be funny."
Now, I've never seen that part in RK, but in general, you don't need to see nudity for it to be funny. If the show simply showed Kenshin walking into the bath and you heard a scream followed by whatever else, that's funny on its own. You don't need to see a cutscene of a naked woman for it to be any funnier, at least IMO.

Amen to that. Life is real and funny enough without seeing cartoon boobs and sex...
(In RK, all you see are shoulders, so it's fine
.)
At any rate, naked women sell, unfortunately.

Your right I forgot about that. I didn't mean to be dirty. I truly hate full on nudity like in AS. Kenshin walks in to Kalru in the first ep. Nevere the less your !00% Sapphi

DID SOMEONE SAY GRATUITOUS NUDITY?
Yeah that's right. That cat is naked. Totally naked. And there's nothing you can do about it. NOTHING!

I think we often forget that anime is not for us. We are not the target audience for anime. Japan is the target audience for anime. And whether you like it or not, nudity is not as big a deal. For most shows, I don't think animators throw in fanservice as part of some great calculated plan.
For another example, why does it seem like most series set in high school have a beach and/or hot springs episode? Opportunity for fanservice? Well, maybe, but it turns out, when you're a high school student in Japan, the beach and hot springs are pretty much the only place out of the city that you can go to on a budget.
It's a good idea to keep in mind when watching anime that Japan is not America.
