Slice-of-life is a genre I regretably tend to avoid (I'm tragically shonen, so the scarce anime-watching time I get is guiltily pleasurable spent with said genre), however there were a handful great anime of the genre I watched in my childhood when I was blessed with the forgranted boon of endless free time and I basically absorbed every single cartoon that was in TV including some good slice-o'lifers such as Heidi, Girl of the Alps. Probably the one that sticks the most in my mind, is the adaptation of "Heart", a novel by italian writer Edmund Amisci. The novel itself is beautiful and the treatment it received in the anime form emphasized the drama greatly. I'd heartily recommend it but I understand it may be quite hard to come by in the States (or any other place for that matter). A recent Slice-of-life I watched and greatly enjoyed was Isao Takahata's movie "Omoide PoroPoro (Only Yesterday).
I won't be touching action because the reply would quickly devolve into fanboyish drooling and foaming at the mouth and blabbering about my favourite series and trust me, you don't want that.
On fantasy, well the list there is quite long as well but recently I was reminded how much I liked InuYasha. One of my ex-girlfriends swore for Fushigi Yuugi and I'm sure your daughter will enjoy it. For yourself it may be a hit or miss. I'd say my favourite is Slayers but you would do good to check the review in this website about some objectionable content it has, which is quite inoffensive for me but may not be the case for everyone for totally valid reasons.

I liked Whisper of the Heart a lot.

Ooh, Whisper Of The Heart sound interesting ^^
Hmmm, I guess School Rumble would count as Slice Of Life, right o.o?
Action.. Does Scrapped Princess go under this category o.o?
Fantasy would go to Fushigi Yugi (I think) \o.o/
I'm not sure which Air TV would go under, but that would definitely be one of them 8D
Not sure about aviation. Since I haven't seen too many of those ^^;

Oh, I didn't read the first post thoroughly enough. I thought you were only asking about favorite slice-of-life. XD
My favorite action anime? Probably Hajime no Ippo (a boxing anime) and Dragonball Z.
As for fantasy? What constitutes "fantasy" when you're talking about anime? XD I liked My Neighbor Totoro, if that counts.

Mm.... "Slice of life"? If you consider stuff like Air, Kanon, Ah! My Goddess! or Keno's Journey "Slice of Life"... then those...
Action anime? Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hellsing
Fantasy: Escaflowne, Gankutsou: The Count of Monte Cristo, Witch Hunter Robin..

The king (or queens, I guess) of slice of life for me will always be Aria. Until they animate Yotsuba&!, there is no other series that can match it in its relaxing, fun, and charming setting, characters, and (amazingly) plot. It's one of the few titles that have caused me to be sad after finishing it because it meant there would be no more hanging out on Neo-Venezia.
For action, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the standout, for leading in hotbloodedness and exponential scale.
For fantasy, even though it's not an anime yet and the adaptation could go horribly, horribly wrong, I'd say that Umineko no Naku Koro ni is at the top of my list. Horror/psychological murder-mystery with a really well developed fantasy backstory? Yes.

Heh, I thought of that too but decided against including it in, because it has way too much absurdity to really be a slice of life of any conceivable human being.
That being said, it is probably one of the best anime comedies.
And I don't know how did it escape me the first post, but Haibane Renmei, is definitely an amazing slice-of-life + fantasy on top of it.

Haibane Renmei is the only anime I've seen that comes very close to slice-of-life, other than some Miyazaki movies I suppose. (Thinking mainly of Whisper of the Heart, I guess.) *doesn't really know what slice-of-life even looks like*
With only a very few exceptions, all the anime I watch is shonen, which basically means all I watch is action
I think Haibane and a few Miyazaki movies were the only ones that didn't have action in them. But for ones with a
lot of action, my top three would be Full Metal Alchemist (both animes), Trigun, and Wolf's Rain.
And the only aviation anime I've seen is Last Exile, unless Castle in the Sky counts
Yeah, what constitutes fantasy in anime anyway? There are
very few animes I've seen that don't have some kind of magic or supernatural occurrence. For fairy-tale-like fantasy, my favorites would have to be Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away.

Slice-of-life? Umm, Ouran Highschool Host Club? Yeah, it's life with rich people but it's life. I think...
Action? Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, and some others I can't think up off the top of my head.
Aviation? Porco Russo, since that's the only anime I've watched with aviation in it.
Fantasy? Waaay too many for me to put down.

There must be a number of genre's I didn't think to ask about! Feel free to bring those up too. I'm still new to this, but I don't like something just because it's anime or japanese, if the quality of animation and story-telling work together I like it.
I did enjoy FullMetal Alchemist too.

Okie doki! ^^
...because Kuroshitsuji falls more into the line of "Supernatural" then Fantasy, though it fits there, also. X3
So true!

Then, I'd suggest that you liked these because they were more comedies than slice-of-life.
By the way, coffeehubby, that's another genre you may enjoy. Both the ones suggested by Makachup are great but I'd reccomend leaving Lucky Star for far beyond in the road, after you've absorbed a bit more of the anime and japanese culture, as most of the jokes are parodies.
My favorite comedies would be Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochii Guu and School Rumble. I'm starting on Full Metal panic? Fummoffu, but it's been great.
