Akira is now on Blue-Ray!

Postby rocklobster » Sat Feb 28, 2009 5:40 am

In case you haven't heard, you can now watch Akira on Blue-Ray. I'm wondering what other anime titles are on this format now. I know Paprika is, but I want to know the others, just out of pure curiosity.

Let's see...I know FUNimation's putting a few titles on the format: Afro Samurai, AS: Resurrection, Shigurui, Samurai 7, Vexille, the One Piece film Adventures in Alabasta, Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, and a few DBZ film double features.

And besides Akira, Bandai's got a few others: Gunbuster the Movie, Diebuster the Movie, Wings of Honneamise, Jin-Roh, and Freedom (originally released on HD-DVD. A side note: I would not spend 99 bucks for this extended Nissin commercial.) Also, Ghost in the Shell (both 1 and 2) are on the format.

Other anime on Blu-ray by miscellaneous companies: Appleseed Ex Machina, Batman Gotham Knight, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, FFVII: Advent Children (I swear it's on Blu-ray, or it at least will be on the format), Resident Evil Degeneration, Tekkonkinkurito, Lady Death, and I think that's it.

EDIT: Also, SOS Tokyo Metro Explorers: THE NEXT is on the format.

So in conclusion, there are a few anime on Blu-ray, there just aren't a lot of them. However, Japan and the US are both in BR Region 1, so you can import a Japanese BD and play it on an American player.

I'd get it if I had a better HDTV and sound system....mine's just a small TV to play PS3 on.
Now my parents' house with the Bravia TV, Bose surround and all that stuff.....that would be awesome. I might buy it sometime when they're out of town and go over to watch it.....I don't think they would much care for that movie!

Now I can be confused in High Definition!

Seriously, it'll be a while before I buy a Blu-Ray DVD player, and an even LONGER while before I invest in Blu Ray disks, so this doesn't impress me much.

Reading the manga and repeated viewings helps :-D.
It all makes sense except for the end.

Are these series that are coming out on Blu-Ray?
