FUNimation to distribute select Geneon titles

[quote="ICv2"]Roughly nine months after Geneon announced that it was exiting the American anime market FUNimation Entertainment has struck a deal that will allow it to distribute select Geneon titles in North America. Under terms of the agreement FUNimation has obtained the exclusive rights to the manufacturing, marketing, sales, and distribution of established Geneon titles including Hellsing Ultimate, Ergo Proxy, Black Lagoon, Elemental Gelade, Fate Stay Night, Kamichu, Ninja Vixens, Paradise Kiss, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden Traumend, Shana, Shonen Onmyouji, The Familiar of Zero, The Story of Saiunkoku, When They Cry, and The Law of Ueki.

Among the first titles to be released will be the special edition of Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon: Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo Kara Maoh Season 2, and Lyrical Nanoha.

Today's announcement is a bit of good news for the North American anime market and anime fans. FUNimation’s acquisition of Geneon titles had been rumored since last November (see “Geneon’s Fall a Positive for FUNimation?â€

Nice but I have all the Geneon titles that I want so far. I have got them on the many Geneon blowouts sales around the net and stores.

As the history about Geneon.

In July of 2003, The name Pioneer LDC was change to Geneon after the acquisition by Dentsu. Due to this, Pioneer Entertainment (USA) Inc. was also change to Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc.

Then on August of 2007, news broke out that ADV Films would handle the distribution, marketing, and sales of Geneon's properties in the USA in October of that year. Under the deal, Geneon would still acquire, license, and produce anime in North America, but everything else wold be handled by ADV.

But in September of 2007, the distribution deal with ADV and Geneon didn't reach a mutual agreement. From October of 2007, Geneon USA would focus mainly on management of its works portfolio and then in November, the company shipped all titles solicited untill November 5, 2007 and then stop and close their doors and let go of some people at Geneon USA. Dentsu of Japan want to cut Geneon USA down and have someone else do the distribution for them and they more or less pull the rug right out from them.

1000% agreed. I'm so happy I can finally obtain Higurashi, here's hoping they also release season two following it.

Here is what was said at their AX panel.

About questions to this news.

FUNimation is now in a partnership with Geneon and they will finish all the dubbing and dvd authoring.

The Geneon tiles will start launching toward the end of next month.

As of right now, no. Someone ask that question and FUNimation gave this as a reply: A lot of the old titles reverted back to the original licensor's. But they also said that they are interested in looking at a few back catalog shows though.

Seems like FUNimation's just getting a whole lot bigger (if you include the other post in this as well). Not that that's a bad thing, though; I think their work is fantastic.

I'm glad that Funimation has distribution rights to several Geneon titles, however, I'm actually surprised that Samurai Champloo isn't in it, maybe it was just a random choice I have no idea. However, I am glad that Karin will be completed, which is good news for me. I hope that Funimation is given more distribution rights to other anime like Last Exile and Disgaea (something like that). Also, I hope that there are plans to complete incomplete series' such as Shakugan no Shana.
