Haruhi Second Season!

ANN is reporting that "Haruhi Suzumiya" will return for a second season! Those who love this series will tell you one season was not vaguely enough. What's great is that they have several books worth of Haruhi left to mine for material. The first season is basically the contents of three books, and there are a total of nine so far.

Acquaintances may notice me giggling hysterically from time to time, now. Pay it no mind. I'm just anticipating.

I'll be interested to see if they continue calling it "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya", though. That's actually the name of the first book, which was completely retold in the first season (in four eps scattered through the season.) I wonder if they'll keep the title, or use one of the other book titles (the titles are always "The (blank) of Haruhi Suzumiya", or more precisely, "Suzumiya Haruhi no (blank)".

Because Haruhi fans will revitalize the economy.

Yes!

They've got a lot of names to choose from with all the book titles, but my guess will be that it will simply be "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya II." But I could be proven very wrong about that.

Yeah, I just got the second volume of Season one just today. You know what they are doing for the second volume? The box set is going to have more free stuff and they are going in the order of the Japanese broadcast order, but its all subs. So if you want to see the dub Id suggest you get the regular dvd.

The few things that I don't really like is the fanservice and the religious stuff. Not that religion is bad cause you know without it we would be in a flaming lake of fire. But the way they use it, I just don't get it. You know like that guy in the first season. Who was saying Haruhi is God. That disturbs me a lot. But other than that stuff its a pretty good show. And she still is crazy as ever.

As I recall, Itsuki was merely hypothesizing the opinions of other espers within his organization.

Well yeah, but even the thought was outrageous. But remember that whenever Haruhi got all mad, a big monster would start destroying things in the empty space type thing. And also that when it came to some point she would destroy the world and reform it to her specifications. Thats sorta what I meant. That part was mainly in episode 6 I think.

IMHO Haruhi, even in the show's context, is not God. There can be no God without omnipotence and there can be no omnipotence without omniscience. Haruhi lacks the foundational attribute of omniscience so she cannot be omnipotent and therefore not God.

I didn't say she was. Im just saying the show said so. Yes there is no way she could be. I don't get the show in that way myself. So I wasn't really saying that she could be. I was just discussing what the show said.

And yeah your statement is 100% correct. But some of the Japanese just don't get it I guess.

Is it really impossible for a being capable of anything to be ignorant of this capacity? Omniscience can be attained through omnipotence, but I do not think it is an inevitable consequence of omnipotence.

You can't enjoy a story for a story? Haruhi doesn't attempt to claim to be a real person in this world, it's a fictional story. No one is asking you to take Haruhi before God or asserting you should, I don't see how it is outrageous that such an implication is there in the story. And considering how many fake religions and complete lack of religion there is in so many anime I don't get how this anime is a problem.

For what Haruhi actually is, I'm not really sure. Is she a god? I don't know, it's either that implication, or she's simply in a dream state (anything can happen in dreams lol) and I can't think of other options. Not sure what more will be said about that as I haven't read the books.

As for Haruhi season 2, I cannot wait. I thought season 1 was pretty close to perfect for an anime. I laughed until I cried and I got all those warm fuzzy feelings too, I loved it very much. Not sure how much better season 2 could be, but as long as it's solid it won't matter, the characters are just great.

There is a rumor going around that Yutaka Yamamoto will not be the series production director for season 2, that is if there really will be a season 2 of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Melancholy never never says a word as to what Haruhi truly is, beyond a being with reality altering capabilities and a low threshold of understanding of those same abilities (undoubtedly for the best). That some characters sum it up to a diety or god-like entity is within character, not any kind of religious scam.
