H-game based anime?

OK, I'm not sure how to take this. There are two anime I've found that I want to find more on and (possibly) purchase. I recently found out that both of them are based off of hentai-games. Has anyone seen these and/or can verify that they were, and can tell me if they would be worth the money?
The two series are Utawarerumono and Fate-Stay Night. Both of them look extremely interesting, I just haven't been able to find where to buy them.

Yes, both series are based off eroge games. I haven't seen either though, but I've heard many good things about Fate/Stay Night, so that one's probably worth the money.

there are actually quite a few anime series that are based off H-games. even so, that doesn't necessarily make the anime series, itself, hentai. i managed to watch the first...15 episodes of fate/stay night. it was pretty clean other than some language and action violence. however, there were slight scenes and hints of lesbianism near the the later episodes. that's about when i stopped watching the series. it didn't REALLY stand out to me either though...

Utaware is pretty good. I enjoyed it, though it could have been better in a lot of ways. It's somewhat clean, too, minus a few things that you can find out about by reading Tenshi no Ai's CAA reivew.

Well, something I've seen of it that I thought was rather amusing, was this clip I found on Youtube. This sequence just seems quite hilarious.
Eruru's tail tug

This special episode also almost had me in stitches!

Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night would be two series based off eroge games by Type-Moon. As is generally the case with these adaptions, it's because the respective stories are good enough to merit a branch out into Anime, and the H-scenes are usually left on the cutting room floor. Doesn't necessarily mean all sexual content is filtered, but a good deal is removed (makes the show more accessible). The catch, though, is that the plots are occasionally watered down slightly; a visual novel offers several routes and possibilities, allowing a fleshed out narrative, whereas an Anime series treads a singular path.

Air is also an anime that is based on a H game. I'm going to just second the opinions and say that Fate//Stay Night and Utaware both had some stuff in it, but I've defineatly seen worse. Utaware was the better of the two in my opinion, although both have freaky wierd plot twists that can lead to confusion because they watered down the plot from the games. (Air is like ... one of the cleanest animes ever although I found it way boring.)

Kannon anime was base off a H game.

A good number of your love story animes, come from H games. Most of the time, when they do the anime base off a H game, they want to open the market and a good number of the times, the anime don't have any H-scenes in it and are pretty clean.

Kanon, Air, Utawarerumono (I lovingly refer to it as "Utawhatever"), Fate/Stay Night...there are many series I've seen that have been based on an H-game that have been totally and completely clean. While I am cautious and seek other opinions, I never outright dismiss a series on these grounds.

For any visual novel enthusiasts worried about content, Type-Moon recently re-release an "All ages" version of their popular Fate/Stay Night for the PS2 in Japan. So now my only complaint is that I can't read kanji.

Wasn't Moon Phase based off of a hentai game too? From what I saw it seems innocent enough, even though I didn't like it.

Depends on which Moon Phase you mean. There is one that seems somewhat innocent, then theres Moon Phase 2, or some such, which actually is hentai.

Hm...I've heard that Diamond Daydreams was based on a dating sim...does anyone know if that one was hentai? According to freerock1's review on the reviews page, and from what I remember after seeing most of the episodes, the anime was very clean.

Not entirely true. Kanon was originally a h-game in Japan. But Kanon saw EXTREME popularity, and was later released as an all-ages game. The anime came third. I believe the same holds true for Air, since the two were produced by the same company, though I'm not as familiar with Air as I am with Kanon.

By the way, let me take this moment to shamelessly plug Kanon. The 2006 version of Kanon is beautiful and amazing. Whether you like romantic anime or not, it's worth a watch. Everyone I've forced to watch Kanon loved it.

Lol, UnderwaterRayRomano.

That's correct. Air was originally an h-game, but, after becoming rabidly popular, Key released an all ages version of the game, which, I would assume, the the anime was based on.

I thought so. I really need to look at Air, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Too much other anime, and too many other things going on. Would you recommend it, though? One of the people I forced to watch Kanon said they didn't like Air, but liked Kanon.

I've seen Air, and I definitely recommend it. I know that not everyone likes it, but it's absolutely worth a shot. Almost made me cry near the end, and that's rare for me. XD Also, the art is spectacular, and the characters are interesting. It's been licensed by ADV, so I definitely suggest you keep an eye out for it! :thumb:

Bah, licensed. If it were anyone other than ADV... I think I'd skip it.

Sorry, but I can't watch Kanon. After all, it has been pick up by ADV.

I've seen Kannon and Air, and while I really enjoyed Kannon, I was really frustrated that Air offered little resolution to the story. As for utewarerumono (it took me forever to memorize the spelling for that...) MOST of it is clean, but there is that one scene between Hakuro (sp?) and the huge sword girl. (nothing actually happens and you don't see anything because they are interrupted) That being said, the game is very Hentai from what I heard, involving the entire female cast in a harem. I really want to get the DVDs of the series, but I am broke at the moment.

By the way, another love sim adapatation anime is coming soon for Clannad(sp?)
It looks promising, so when it sees daylight i'm gonna check it out.

As for Fate/Stay Night, not quite as clean as Ute, and there is alot of what some would consider to be black magic. There are a few scenes that brush up against nudity (mostly on the part of Saber), one scene towards the end with un-detailed nudity, and there are alot of religious issues other than magic involved. Just be aware...

And what would be considered "Not" black magic, if I can ask?

I would imagine he means magic that appears more "innocent." You know, Glenda the Good Witch of the East or Cinderella's Fairy Godmother. I would imagine black magic might be describing magic that appears more sinister and less well meaning.

Well, there's black magic and white magic. Black magic is typically the powers of death and destruction (also usually where you can find various elemental spells), whereas white magic is centered on healing and protection. The only offensive white magic you will come across most of the time is Holy, which uses pure white energy to harm evil creatures. Black magic uses their own power against them.

Fate/Stay Night is excellent so far! I own the first 3 DVDs of the series, and as previously mentioned, there is some minor language and action/fantasy violence. The anime is only rated as a 13+ so I can't imagine there being anything overtly sexual or offensive even later in the show. Tsukihime falls into the same category, though the story was much darker than Fate/Stay Night. There's one scene in Tsukihime that has some innuendo, but that aside it was clean of sexually oriented material as well from what I recall.

Fate/Stay Night does contain some nudity issues, but those are actually few and seldom seen (just three instances, I believe). And there is one episode with content that might be construed as having sexual elements, but it's partly what you read into it, so not a major concern unless you're very fixated on that point.

I haven't finished Tsukihime yet, but I do know it has one bed room scene, as well as a couple other odds and ends. Doesn't bother me much personally, but worth baring in mind for others.

At the same time, don't start thinking the OPPOSITE is true, though... Sometimes anime based on H games can actually be really dirty, if not straight out hentai... Green Green, for instance..

Ah, yes. Green Green. Who could forget Green Green? One of the silliest and dirtier anime I've ever seen, and I've only seen the first four episodes.

And they're real subtle about it too...

That's not yet confirmed, last I checked. There's evidence pointing to it, but no announcement.

To be honest, I hope they haven't licensed it. Kanon has been my favorite anime since the ORIGINAL Kanon anime came out, and I don't trust any of the anime companies to translate and dub it. I don't think they can really capture the essence of Kanon in translation.
