No Anime on Adult Swim?

Do you guys believe this at all:
[quote="Adult Swim Message Boards"]Adult Swim aired the following bump at about 11:10 during Family Guy Sunday:
"Attention anime fans]
Personally, I don't buy it, because Adult Swim knows that the majority of it's viewers are anime fans. If they toss the anime, they're ratings will drop lower than the saucer section of the Enterprise-D in the movie "Star Trek: Generations". But, these are the same guys who, to freak us out, aired NO anime (outside Toonami) on "April Fools Day" weekend.

It's obviously a gag to draw more attention to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force film, which is Adult Swim original programming, and thus more favorable in their eyes. Plenty of people watch AS only for its Anime block and ignore it's original content, so if anything, this is just a joke to try and rope more people in.

Sounds like a gag to me. How do they know if you went out and saw the movie or not? XD

The bump is
obviously a joke.

Uh, are you sure about that? If it was true, then why does Adult Swim run less anime than they used to? I'm fairly certain anime fans now constitute a minority of Adult Swim's audience.

Like I said in the other thread, its got to be a joke.
But I have to say something about this.
because Adult Swim knows that the majority of it's viewers are anime fans.
That is not true at all. There is more viewers out there that watch the comedy stuff, then they watch anime.
The highest rated show on Adult Swim on Saturday is Futurama. The highest rated anime is Bleach and it comes at number 8 on the top ten highest rated shows for Saturday on AS.

And there you have it. As usual, Roy has the 411.
It's pretty sad for Adult Swim's homegrown comedy offerings that they're consistently beaten in the ratings by reruns of a show that's been off the air for...how many years now? Four? Five?
But if we anime fans think we're the majority of the Adult Swim viewer base or really have any kind of pull at all, we're seriously mistaken.
Remember that my prediction in the new year's thread was that Adult Swim will stop showing anime anyway.

Naw, they'll just continue the trend of quarantining the anime to Saturday night, when all the "cool kids" are out doing stuff.

That doesn't prove anything.
Maybe these "anime fans" just don't like the anime Adult Swim shows or has loved anime Adult Swim has played in the past, but doesn't care for any recent anime additions.
*Points to self*
I get your point though.
Anime doesn't do the best as far as high rating goes, but that doesn't disprove that a majority of Adult Swim are anime fans.
Just being to witty for my own good.

Who cares about anime? You all should be seeing the Aqua Teen movie anyway. Carl>Kenshin.
Word.

You would't say that if Chuck Norris liked anime. Anyway, if Adult Swim gets rid of its Saturday Anime block, what other channels on cable have anime?

Yes it does. How can you say there are anime fans watching AS when shows like Futurama, PHF and Boondocks beat just about all of the anime shows.
There has only been three animes that have really done well in ratings.
Cowboy Bebop
FMA
FLCL
Tenchi and Outlaw Star all failed, when it was moved to AS.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC have only got lukewarm ratings.
WHR and WR didn't do well in ratings.
SC did okay, but not that great.
Eureka 7 right now is the lowest rated show on Sat night. Trinity Blood and only four eps of Blood+ have beat it and they not in the top ten in best of ratings.
So, if you want to think that there are that many anime fans watching AS then go a head and believe that, but I like to know what kind of stuff you are drinking?

You know, as much as I generally dislike Adult Swim original shows, I have to admit...Carl and Frylock are fairly awesome.

Well, as others have said, it's probably a joke that they're removing anime if we don't watch the movie... xD;
But seeing other replies to this thread, maybe they'd remove anime for other reasons? xD;
But I think another reason that some anime get really low ratings is because they're aired later? So some people (like... younger audiences? xD; They call it Adult Swim, but we all know... u_u) might not be able to stay up to 1:00 watching... InuYasha, or whatever's on then. xD;
I mean, Futurama is the first AS show on weekdays, and I think on Saturdays as well? (I'm not really familiar with the Sunday schedule. xD;) So, that has to be something to count for on it being one of the highest rated shows for AS, right?
I dunno, maybe reading that Eureka 7 does worse than Blood+ makes me sad. D:

That's right because Anime fans are only fans of the anime Adult Swim puts on there.
Now I get you.

Reply was to Bap.
As a whole.
The Sunday night lineup blows the Saturday night lineup out of the water.
So, I can say that it's not the later time slot for anime is hurting them.
You should all remember that they put IY on an earlier time and it failed.

O_O; wooow why did anyone believe what AS said? Anime isn't gonna go anywhere...^^;
Has anyone ever thought that anime fans ALSO watch the comedy? Thus, already increasing the ratings?
Anime fans are allowed to watch comedy too...I watch more than just anime...:x So maybe anime fans DO help with the comedy ratings?

[quote="ChristianKitsune"]O_O]
But there is a problem with that. The ratings are offset that its not even funny.
The highest ratings for Sat night for one week was in the 400,000
The highest ratings for Sunday night for one week was 1,000,000
The average ratings for Sat night is 350,000 and Sunday night is 770,000
The numbers are just too big to say there that many anime fans push the ratings up that much.

I think you are missing what I am saying..or I am not being clear...
Don't anime fans watch comedy too? So with our Fans PLUS those who like comedy, that would naturally bring the ratings up on Sunday night.
Also, Saturday night is Saturday night. I think it's stupid to put anime on this night... older people have things to do that they can't do on Sunday-Thursday nights...
I am not saying that anime is HUGE at adult swim, it's clearly not...but there is a little bit of fans that do like the anime they show..
is it enough to make some sort of profit though? Or is AS losing a lot of money?

I heard you and yes there are anime fans that do watch comedy too.
But in the good old days, AS on Saturday night use to pull 700,000 viewers in and it had the anime on that night.
Also, CB was the only thing that was making AS a profit as for anime goes at the time untill FLCL. Why do you think they keep renewing those shows and let anime titles like WR, WHR, Outlaw Star, Tenchi, Gundam 0083 and a few other animes go. They were not making much of a profit for them, because people were not watching them.
It wasn't untill Family Guy and Futurama that really pulled in the viewers.
But look at CB, it was on Saturday night and FLCL aired on weekday night and it did well.
Sure, Saturday night may not be good to put anime. But why are the ratings for anime on other nights not doing well at the same time?

This looks like it is getting a bit off topic. Personally, AS is just joking around like they always do just to be funny and mess with a few people's heads.

It tends to be popular to dislike or hate Anime these days, at least from my perspective. While Many people who watch Anime also contribute towards the Comedy ratings, I doubt if many of those who are primarily the Comedy audience return the favor. A while back, AS had a joke list of why they were purportedly going to Hell. #3 was simply "Anime." Sarcastic, perhaps, but viable.

Maybe AS just drove the fans away? I mean...it seems a bit wierd to me, that the anime/manga industry is still growing...but ratings like this occur.
Maybe people would rather buy DVDs or watch their anime on Youtube, rather than wait an entire week to watch anime on a network that dogs on it all the time...*Shrugs*
For a while I thought anime was starting to do poorly in the US because of the ratings on Adult Swim..but I have been proven wrong XD..

Personally, as an anime fan, I'm not interested in most of the stuff they're showing right now. I do want to see Eureka Seven, but:
1. I don't have cable and don't want it.
2. I don't like dubs.
3. I hate commercials.
Things like that probably keep a lot of people from watching anime on TV, even if it is relatively uncut like on AS.

It's probably a hoax.
That said, regarding ATHF itself, I've hated every scrap of original AS programming that I've ever seen.
One upside for AS to its own programming, though, is that it can rip it apart however to make space for commericals. (An entire ep in 15 minutes? Um, no.)
Seriously, though, if AS did cut anime, I'd pretty much stop watching TV entirely at that point, because anime and the local news are about the only TV I ever watch anymore anyway.

I think that's probably the biggest thing. Anime fans are realizing that they don't have to rely on a TV channel to get what they want anymore. They're latching onto different sources and leaving the old medium behind.
That's a nice way to think about it: we're the first rats to abandon the sinking ship!

So the AS debate has reached here as well?
Roy Mustang, don't exaggerate. Futurama isn't even on Saturday nights anymore and Bleach is actually doing pretty well now that it's hit it's good episodes.
The ratings are gathered from Nielsen boxs. Antique, dated things randomly installed in televisions where one counts for a certain number of televisions in the thousands. It's a highly flawed system that for some reason we still use.
Also, AS advertises their comedy like it's going out of style (Futurama, anyone?) whereas anime gets one or two commercials a night, usually when anime is showing. Hopefully Shin-chan will show that anime can be as funny as it can be serious and ressurect anime on AS, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
And Comedy night is as good as Action night... if only Action night didn't have Comedy in it ><. Still, I delight in watching Saul of the Mole Men and Moral Orel.

Granted, it's not the best show around, but it still, technically is anime.

Um, you can still by the DVD's. Just put it on subtitled, then you can watch it with the original voices.
