anyone seen this anime??

i don't know why i like it so much, maybe it's because of its simplicity and reality. I like how it's done in a way that is realistic.

and all the theme songs are good!

I have seen 1 episode. I think the manga was in Shonen Jump once. The art looks very good, but the whole concept of this 'board' game thorws me off.

'Go' is one of those games offered at Yahoo. I become interested in it after seeing Hikaru.

There is a ghost/spirit inhabiting the board that befriends Hikaru in the first episode, and stays with him, I guess. I've only read volume 1.

I'm fine with Hikaru no Go (by which I mean I'll continue to read it and probably enjoy it). Many of the characters annoy me, but it's that way with very many anime. I'll give it some time.

You're quite correct, it's very clean. That doesn't make it good alone, though. Not to be negative, but here are my complaints.
I don't like Sai. No one should be that obsessed.
Dramatizing Go just doesn't work. I wish they wouldn't bother and let the game speak for itself.

Yes. Quite a bad talent, isn't it?

Actually, I generally try not to criticize something I feel is very good. Naruto, for example, is an excellant manga, but does have some negative points. Due to the overall quality, however, I keep my mouth shut. Hikaru no Go, however, I do not feel this way about.

I try to keep my cynical side in check.

lol, ok uc..

but i think it's done pretty good, that Go thing. ok, i agree with you about Sai being so obsessed, but that's just a way to get people interested. If it was just about Go, it might not have attracted so many people. :)

True... true. And quite a bit of it can be forgiven as most anime characters are obsessed about any games they happen to play (or other things they do). On that topic, I happened to hear this on Yu-gi-oh. My response was a combination of amused and disgusted.

Guy: If you win, I'll leave. If you lose, I get your locater cards and you marry me.
Mai: Fine.
Assorted People: I can't believe she's risking her spot in the finals!

My eyebrows went up, I assure you. Mentally I muttered "priority check."

My mom's been reading the Japanese manga to it, and she seems interested in the story line. I haven't really read much about this anime, but there's a song from the anime that I like called Sincerely by the jpop group Dream. I didn't even know it was from Hikaru no Go at first though.

Sai is male. An extremely feminine looking male.

feminine looking? maybe i'm used to seeing asian men with long hair wearing traditional clothing..

that example of yu gi oh you gave, u c..
no matter how much you like the thing you're doing, it's just illogical that you'll put your future on the line. I don't like animes that go into extreme with characters start saying strange stuff.

which does not happen in Hikaru.

I mostly like HnGo for the art. It's really pretty especially halfway through the manga series :) ...I agree the ppl are way too obsessed about the game as if their lives depended on it. Sai is quite feminine but at least, I could still tell he's a male hehe

BIG SPOILER about Sai: highlight at your own risk
Speaking about Sai, why does he disappear? I noticed in the later volumes, the boy plays the game by himself, no longer Sai by his side...can anyone explain this? PM me if considered more appropriate. Thanks!
The most recent Shonen Jump has a certain picture... I wish I could scan it and show it to you. Badly drawn, in that Sai no longer looks androgynous... and he doesn't look male.

Meanwhile, Ruroken has a strange number of posts.

Heh, heh, heh, heh.

Well anyways, how many volumes does Hikaru no Go have?
Apparantly Shonen Jump likes picking up the license for really lengthy manga titles.

I don't think Hikaru no Go is done yet... I think it has 15-20 volumes currently. I am hardly an authority on this subject.

It isn't Sai's hair by the way. I'm fine with long hair. It's the face. You'd think the artist could do better, as he is a guy, and most guys are capable of drawing masculine characters better.

In this most recent issue: I liked Akira. Shame he barely mattered to the plot.
