An interesting fact about J-animation that may surprise you

Many people consider Japanimation to come directly from Japan. However, an interesting fact just revealed itself to me about a month ago and I was debating whether or not I should share it with you fellow animation fans. The interesting fact is that the majority of Japanimation these days is not animated in Japan, but in South Korea. There is a company that goes by the name DR movie that handles both in-between animation and full-blown productions. DR movie can even be traced back as far as the first GITS movie and probably even farther(I'm talking 1980s). They do works for Gonzo Digimation, Production IG, Bandai Visuals, and even studio Bones. DR movie also has a section that handles American animation(Justice League Unlimited).

There is also a Korean company that handles nothing but American animation, and you know them as Rough Draft Korea(they did the Simpsons and Futurama). Also, if you're interested there is even another company that handles mainly children animation called HanHo(they also do chemicals and toys).

I just thought I would get this information out if it wasn't already. :thumb:

I think most of us knew this already o.o

A lot of American animation (Ed Edd and Eddy, Dexter's Lab, etc) also comes from Korea.

*nodnod* Very true. It's why you see so many Korean names in anime credits.

Simpsons, Family Guy, The Critic and Futurama are all made in Korea too.
And yet most of them are banned there! Heh heh

I doubt I'll ever understand the South Korean government and their censorship policy. :(

I know a good many people on this forum know that the majority of animation is being done in South Korea, I'm mainly put this thread up to tell people that didn't know. W4J, you would be surprised at how many people still don't realize that South Korea is considered the "hidden gem of Asia" I mean, Samsung is ranked second only to Intel in Semiconductor and ICs and LG is considered a really fine brand(I really like their refrigerators). A good many people still think that South Korea produces junk(obviously, their still living in the 1950s).

Not to mention cars. Any country that exports their cars to the United States might as well be considered higher-up economically.

Case in point, my Honda Civic has a South Korean made radiator.

Hmm, wasn't aware of that. Can't say it affects my opinion of the medium in any way, though.

But it does put certain kinds on anime fan elitism into perspective

Maybe but I still think they do a good job whether the anime is created in South Korea or Japan.

makes me wonder what all those fans who say, "I LOVE JAPAN BECAUSE OF ANIME AND ONLY BECAUSE OF WHAT I SEE IN ANIME. I WANNA GO TO JAPAN BECAUSE OF ANIME!! ISN'T JAPAN AWESOME BECAUSE OF ANIME?!" will think now XD
(no offence)

Eh, I didn't know that but neither have I ever considered South Korea as a producer of junk. :eh:
