If any of you are following Naruto in Japan, tell me if the first episodes are good quality. I might actually become interested in the anime again now that it has left the fillers, but if the animation quality isn't excellent I'm sticking to the manga. For example, Bleach might have returned to the real storyline, but the recent episodes have been terribly animated.

too bad. i gave up on the anime 20 episodes into the fillers. i stopped liking the manga around chapter 290 also. i didn't like how the author just kept coming up with ways to make the characters more powerful and stuff. the manga's seriously starting to take on a DBZish approach...

That's likely because the Studio Pierrot animators are still in "filler" mode. Once they actually got back on the ball, I would assume the animation quality will improve....unless they mishandled their animation budget or something but I doubt that's the case.
But, back to Naruto...
With all of this talk of part two finally getting into the anime, I'm sort of wondering if the Kakashi Gaiden if ever going to be animated.
Although, I guess they could always save it for a "Naruto the Movie 5: Kakashi's Story."

My bad, that trailer was not for a movie. I got it mess up with Naruto movie three that came out in Japan in Aug 5th of 2006.
It is the tv show.
Natuto will end at ep 220 on Feb 8th and is part one and part 2 will continue Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles, which is more or less a sequel to Natuto.

NO MORE DREADFUL FILLERS!!!
That's right; it's dreadful canon time! \o.o/
I may watch some when Kakuzu and Hidan show up, but nothing else so far really takes my interest.

I think they didn't need to put in the teaser of "things to come in a year of anime" and should've booted out the Sasuke part to actually include the rematch bell training in this first episode. But oh well, something else to look forward to next week.

YES! And the animation quality has improved! Nice. And that little chick genin still has the most annoying hair I've hair seen. I also wish I knew what the secret letter bit was all about; a Japanese promotional I assume.
I hope they get back to story telling soon, but that wasn't disappointing at all.

The opening is strangely catchy. And I don't usually care for rap.
The animators are probably immensely relieved that they can finally get back to the manga material. Doing fillers for this long isn't...normal.

I actually watched the first episode. It seemed decent overall, but we'll see if it manages to hold my interest. Perhaps I'll drop in from time to time if there are any fight sequences, but it won't be worth it if they spend too much time talking.

Umm, is it just me or is Naruto up with the same useless tricks such as Shadow Clones? Sure...he improved maturity wise and looks better but nothing new so far. I really hope that he shows us the new tricks because I myself was expecting a awesome battle with Kakashi but that didn't happen. Perhaps they'll show these new techniques gradually. We're still missing Ino and some other characters but that's okay I suppose.
The quality is a lot better in my opinion and there's finally more of an interesting story line rather than those missions.

As I remember from the manga, this part of the series goes kinda slow at first, but picks up speed later. And don't worry, if the anime follows the manga correctly, you will get to see all of the more mature characters soon. They all look pretty cool, and wait till you see akamaru!

You're going to be disappointed, I'm afraid. Naruto doesn't start developing anything significant enough to be called new until well into this part of the series.

Shippuden thread, eh? Wasn't a fan of the series before they stuck the kids' heads on adult bodies, and still not particularly interested afterwards either; 84 episodes of filler, and that's longer than most series. Pass.
But, I'll keep my reservations to myself.

That's a disappointment... Let me guess, the next time Naruto fights Sasuke he gets pwned? So, Naruto then realizes that he needs to train more or am I wrong? I hope so unless the battle turns out to be cool.

Awesome, that's what I'm waiting for as well. How many episodes are there going to be in Naruto so far? If they follow the manga that is...

To be honest, the further Naruto has progressed the less I have thought of it. At this point I really don't believe the author has any overall idea where he's going. It seems he is doing things as they seem good to him, and unless he does something notable in a few chapters this will likely be my permanent view. But I'll keep reading it because I've already read so far and might as well finish.

You know the shonen formula, it seems. Naruto says he's gotten a lot stronger, but other than improved stats (presumably, due to the opponents he fights) he doesn't really show this in any way. In fact, the only new jutsu we know he has is the "new perverted" jutsu he references in the beginning. That's kind of funny, now that I think about it.

With the filler done, they seem to be following the manga. It's not possible to estimate a number of remaining episodes, however, because the manga is still going... I won't say "strong" but it will certainly be going for a while. I predict the second part of the manga will be about as long as the first, so subtract filler and double the remaining number of episodes for the closest I can get to a guess.
