cowboy bebop sadness *SPOILERS, i guess*

I don't want to sound like a troll, after thinking about Cowboy Bebop, it makes me a bit sad and empty.

Spike doesn't really care about anyone. He's kinda self-seeking, I think. He's cool only because he has an afro and kicks butt very well and efficiently. But as for his attitude, I find him nihilistic and that he would care less if he died. Then he dies.

Vincent (from the movie) is about the same. He actually wants the world to die, though. He kicks Spike's butt pretty well and has died before (like Spike), wondering if life is just a dream...

And both of them die. Bang.

Sad. Anyway I enjoy the show because it's very creative and musical, but I don't like Spike and his outlook on life. They feel empty...

This is how Fruits Basket became my favorite show. hehe

Okay back, here we go the patented Ninja CB talk. Spike had to die. That's it plain and simple. It was apparent through the entire series that you don't leave the syndicate alive. You had to know it was coming. Alright moving on, as sad as it was (I cried after) it's like the ending of Kenshin to me. Spike had to leave, he had so much weight and so much burden it was inevitable. It's similar to Faye, she left to go figure out her life, of course hers didn't include getting into a show down. Spike left to put all the puzzle pieces in his head into place. As in the ending of Trigun, he had to confront the person that wouldn't leave him alone. He had to stop Vicious or he would have haunted him for the rest of his life.

Okay if that made any sense, I'm gonna be shocked because I'm half asleep. I could go on forever. But yeah, CB is my favorite series so yeah.

I realize that Spike had to die and it was foreshadowed quite apparently in Sympathy for the Devil (and several other episodes). However, it still bothers me that he could care less if everyone died (as seen in the movie) or if he died.

Saying he dosn't care about anyone isn't quite true. Well besides Julia he does show concern toward Anny at the end of the series, he helps with her wound if I remember correctly. He just couldn't show he cared most of the time, cause he's a tough guy.
If you remember in the Episode Waltz for Venus, Spike meets Rico's blind sister, and she says there is something good inside him. Also at the end, after Rico dies, Spike visits his sister in the hospital and she tells him that Rico had found some rare seeds that could heal her blindness. Well Rico was dead, so he couldn't have given the seeds to the Doctors so I believe that Spike gave them to the doctor. He could have kept them and sold them for alot of cash, but he didn't. There are a few other things that I can't think of right now. If I do I'll post them.

Spike's not a role model. You don't have to be like him, he's a fictional character. I actually feel worse about Vicious than Spike or Vincent. He had every chance of turning around, but he didn't.

I love the series, but it is still a depressing series to me...

What was the point of the series to you? Maybe if I knew the meaning of it...

Can't say I ever try to really find a deep meaningful point to anime...I guess if I found anything...I would say...no matter what everyone around you says...in the end, you have to make your own choices. In the series, against pleading from most the crew, he does what he does. You could compare that in a way with many things. Both good and bad. While I don't have an issue with people giving me there opinions...when it comes right down to it...I gotta make the call. *shrug* My 2 cents. I love Bebop, own the movie and the series...heck I might watch a few eps before I go to bed tonight. lol. Ed freaks me out. Too much like another staff member around here...oh Gypsy....

Personally, I don't really think Cowboy Bebop has a point. Now, it might make some points, but I don't believe you should try to discern something specific about it.

I'll go off topic, then topic again (sigh... I'm giving in to verbifying and nounification).

We shouldn't make too much effort to analyze artist's work. They're works of art, and sometimes they can be ruined when people try to pick each and every little thing apart, searching for some general meaning. I dislike English as a class because I often feel we find meaning where there is none... but woe to the day when we destroy a great novel looking for such meaning.

On topic, I actually ended up in a dark mood after watching Cowboy Bebop as well. Not for exactly the same reasons, and I'm not very prone to being emotional, but by the general worldview and the like. Those emotions created a series of mine...
