CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

"At 21:30 today, YTV announced that it has applied to the CRTC for permission to launch a Canadian category 2 TV station called "The Anime Channel". The Anime Channel's programming would be mostly anime and anime related content, geared towards an adult audience."


I wonder what they mean by "adult" though. I assume it's not really adult, but just... stuff for older audiences. Still, with our lacking of anime on YTV compared to Cartoon Network, might be a nice thing! ...of course most likely only for those who have digital cable/satelite (which I don't anymore^^) Either way... *pats fellow CAA Aussie backs* v_v just after seeing a comment in the Rightstuf DVD thread and their luck with anime :/

It probably means the same sort of anime that you can see on AS or the Anime
Network or that G4 aired when it still had Anime Unleashed.Though it be interesting to see what titles they end up airing.Keep us up to date and tell us not only what's happening but also what titles they end up selecting.

"The applicant states that the programming will consist of the animated programming genre known as "anime" and anime-related programming. Typical "anime" themes or genres include Ninja and other martial arts, supernatural or horror, romance and science fiction. Programming on this service will be targeted exclusively to adults over the age of 18."

I'm really wonderign about this "18" thing. I mean, Stand Alone Complex is an adult anime enough (well, older teens, but ya know. Not quite as teeny as Inuyasha etc) and that was rated a Canadian 14A! So what they heck are they wanting to put on? Anything by anime standards that is 18 is... pretty bad :/ *shrugs* I have no clue on this...

Canada won't show hentai. Ever. Don't worry about stuff like that.

Maybe things like GANTZ or Elfen Lied perhaps.... who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.

I doubt they would show Elfen Lied from what I have learned about it it is way too
bloody.In fact when I have been lurking at the AU forum they said point blank that if and when AU returned they would never show Elfen Lied because of the violence.
Unless Canada has more liberal standards policy than the U.S. I really can't see it airing.

In terms of broadcast standards, yes and no. The depiction of violence is more regulated on Canadian television than it is in the United States. However, there are comparitively fewer regulations pertaining to nudity (this is especially true in Quebec). I do think that a fair degree can be shown depending on the time of day (e.g. Teletoon has run Ninja Scroll before).

Well that opens the floodgates to practically anything.
