There are three different versions of Rurouni Kenshin. But which one is the best? Hold on to your sakibatos(sp?), folks! This may get ugly!

Different versions? Meaning Manga vs. Anime?

Well..if that's the case you got a hard question...

Overall, I am a Kenshin fan girl, always have been, and I always will be. It's going on 5 years since I first saw Kenshin on Good Ol' Toonami.

I love the anime to bits...the comedy, the drama, the violence >:) The english voice actors worked hard to make it correct. (*huggles Richard Hayworth*)

Despite my love for the anime, I must say that there is something about the manga that makes it all the more greater.

The Jinchuu Arc. Yes, rabid kenshin fans, The Jinchuu arc blows the anime out of the water. If the creators of the anime would have been PATIENT we would probably have that awesome/dramatic/nervewracking/ (insert more adjectives here) arc to watch instead of read.

So yeah....all in all I love Both versions to bits. Kenshin has everything I look for in anime.

I like the manga better. Samurai X, in my opinion is fairly boring (people will strongly disagree with me I am sure), and the TV series artwork is worse than that of the manga. The manga beats both in my opinion.

Oops, I thought you meant drawing style and stuff. (Which made me wonder what the difference was between anime and manga since they were both relatively close in drawing style.) I voted for the anime, but if we're talking story and all, the manga is waayy better.

The manga rules all just for the Jinchuu arc. However, seeing the Kyoto arc in animated form was amazing. However still, the manga is better. I win.

Samurai X. It's not as enjoyable as the anime or manga, but I loooooove Battousai. XD

yes!! I loved how the kyoto arc was animated. *really really wants to get that boxed set!*

The manga. The anime is fantastic, mostly for the Kyoto Arc (the Saitou vs. Kenshin battle is amaaaaziiinggg), but the Jinchuu Arc is just too incredible. When it comes to which anime was better, the series or the OVA's, I...Well, I guess I'll go with the series. Trust and Betrayal is one of the most beautiful, amazing, fantastic films I've ever laid my anime-loving eyes on, but it lacks the comedy and light-heartedness of the series. So yeah, my two cents. XD

I heard the creators of the anime were planning on doing Jinchuu (they even started dropping clues right after the Kyoto arc) but the series got pulled before they got to it. However, the blame still falls partly on them for taking too long to get to Jinchuu.

On the other hand, the anime version of Kenshin vs. Shishio is a thing of beauty.

And I am partial to "Freckles."

I like what they did with Jinchuu in Seissohen (aka, Samurai X: Reflections)--Enishi really was the only one I cared about in that arc, (though the "mech-pilot" was cool) so we have Jinchuu distilled to its purest essence.

Manga all the way.

I guess I'll vote for the manga, if for no other reason than that it came first.

Anime because I saw that first.

I'm going for the anime version of our purple-socked friend. The Samuari X version is great, and I haven't seen much of the manga version to gauge an opinion, so I'm going with the cuddly Kenshin, so to speak.

And just for the record, I really and truly hate the English version of the theme song"Sobasaku" (Freckles). Judy and Mary rocked my freaking socks in the japanese version!

I like the manga because of the art, length of use, and action. I thought it was nice how the anime added in stuff not in the manga, but the books are much better in terms of style development. As for Samurai X, it was too sad to watch all that often. The style was pretty and much more realistic. That realism, though, made it too much for me as it was too stark.

Samurai X Kenshin. Why? Because he kills people.

I guess I'm with the majority on this one. Had the Jinchuu arc been well and truly done (instead of a 3rd season with interesting ideas but horrible pacing and plot-structure problems, not forgetting the apparent attempt at setting up another anime series altgoether toward the end), then the main anime would rule all. And I doubt the Jinchuu arc could ever have been done in the hyperrealistic OVA style of Trust/Betrayal (which personally I thought was better than the manga's version of the same story). Even in Reflections, they had to fudge toward the super powers of the main series, and it showed in the somewhat schizophrenic design and presentation.

The manga has definite drawbacks: the plotting is much better done (though not the pacing necessarily) in the anime--rather like having a revised 2nd edition. And the OVA beats everything in sheer artistry (plus how well it pulls off naturalising its story). But the manga has Jinchuu; and nothing else (including the OVA) really does. (Heck, the manga's Jinchuu even has the English crew of the main series dub!--well, it sounded that way to me when I read it... {g} Notably, I had a difficult time fitting the Reflections version of Enishi's voice into the manga...)

So, yeah, I'd have to go with the manga.

To me, Samurai X has only one drawback: the live action footage. Other than that it was brilliant. Trust and Betrayal is no 1 on my list, then Reflections (it was the perfect ending to an almost perfect show) and then the TV series.
