How would you feel if Studio Ghibli was to changes it's name?

Funny story that I just read on Ghibli World.com

[quote=" From Ghibli World"]An interview with Toshio Suzuki on NB online mentions that, when Studio Ghibli became independent from Tokuma Shoten, Miyazaki and Suzuki were going to change the name of Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki suggested "Studio Scirocco". Scirocco is the Italian name for a strong southerly to southeasterly wind that carries hot, dry and dusty air from North Africa towards the Adriatic Sea and southern Europe, which makes it pretty similar to the meaning of Ghibli. Anyway, the new name was objected by the staff because they didn’t want to say “This is Studio Sciroccoâ€

I...probably wouldn't care. XD A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

It'd be a little disappointing just because Ghibli's such a...household name these days. It'd be like Disney changing THEIR name. (..Yes, all we need is another Disney/Ghibli comparison, eh? XD)

Still, it wouldn't be the end of the world if they did change it...it'd just be weird. XD

Its a bad idea - people have to be able to spell your name.

What about simply pronouncing it? I still can't figure it out^^

either way changing it would be :/ I mean, "Ghibli" just rolls off the end of your tongue...

It doesn't really matter. It'd be nice if they'd spell it right, though -- It's Sirocco, not Scirocco, lol.

LOL I would do the same.

I really only care about the quality of the movies. As long as they keep making masterpieces, I will be fine no matter what they called it. :D

Meh. Call it an M249 or a Minimi, it's still a Belgian-made light machine gun that'll rip you hundreds of new ones a minute.

. . . yeah . . . my analogies are weird. The point remains that it's their choice. I, personally, like Ghibli better, but whatever.

I would die.
But seriously - Ghibli is who they are, changing it to the other unpronouncable name is not wise. Your business identity needs to be able to be spoken with ease, written with ease and recognised straight away. Sure 'Ghibli' has a weird meaning but it's still thier identity. I say leave it as is.

What, no more Studio Ghiblets? I thought that company was as steady as the rock of Studio Ghibraltar! And they want to name it some Studio Ghibberish?

(I wouldn't really care, except I wouldn't be able to call it Studio Giblets any more.)

I wouldn't care in the least. Only Ghibli film I've ever seen was Porco Rosso, and none of the others even interst me.

i think studio ghibli has a unique name and they shouldnt change it. not to mention that everyone who associates myazaki's movies wouldnt recognize it then if you ask me.

the only real difference would be the word they hide around the films.

There is no reason to change it. They are one of the most popular anime productions in the game, so I don't really see the benefit in it. But I guess it's not really my decision. I still hate it though.

I don't care much for Ghibli anyway. Either way. It's just a name.

I'd be a bit dissapointed. I grew up calling it Ghibli! I have fun memories of me mispelling it and thinling it was "Chibli' for the first 6 years of my life (I'm so lame!)

XD I'd get used to it though.

People who are not fanatics definitely would not recognize it. I can't pronounce the other name either, but I'm unsure of the spelling, which seems to be conflicting.

I know the comparison with Disney was made earlier, but it's true. Who would want to go to Disney World if it was called Mickey Land?

Ghibli is Ghibli and Totoro is Totoro. I wouldn't mind too much, but I like Ghibli (and Totoro).
