TOKYO (Hollywood Reporter) - The creator of a hugely popular Japanese children's animated show has fallen to her death after claiming she was no good at her job.
Rin Inumaru, the 48-year-old creator of "Ojaru Maru," apparently jumped from the roof of her 14-story apartment complex in Tokyo on Sunday. She left a note, addressed to her mother, in which she said, "I'm not good at my job."
Her show followed the exploits of a noble boy who is transported 1,000 years into the future to present-day Japan. It has aired five days a week on national broadcaster NHK since 1998. The 10-minute series is also screened in Spain and Italy. Inumaru also wrote children's picture books and novels.
"We are very surprised at this sudden event," NHK said in a statement. "From the start of the series, Inumaru has created so many characters and given us many splendid ideas for story lines.
"We are very thankful for her work and, thanks to her efforts, many children have watched the program."

As per usual Japan compeltely ignored the emotional torment side of the story and just harps on about the positive. Truely sad.

The news report's phrasing seemed odd to me...
Why didn't they just say that she committed suicide?

In general Japanese people are very secretive about anything emotional - negative or otherwise. At least that was my experience.

You have to read between the lines which made me think she was suffering from depression. The fact that she wrote 'I am no good at what I do' or words to that affect seems to confirm that she was undergoing a depressed state of mind. That and the fact that she chose to jump off a 14 story building.Clearly there was more going on here than what was cited in the press.

Yeah...Japan has a real problem when it comes to stuff like this. x.x;; There's so much emphasis on appearance in their culture that they tend to be quiet instead of talking about things like this. The phenominon of Japanese students locking themselves in their rooms from years is sort of rooted in the same thing, I think...
(Well, it's not that only Japan has people with suicides or depression, really, it just seems to be a very high-stress culture.)

She seemed quite depressed, even from the little bit that was released in the article. Shame, really...
