Hark! Fast approaches Osaka's birthday. I'd like to ask for an anime box set I can take back with me to school, but I need some suggestions. I'm considering the RahXephon boxed set. In additional to that, what would anyone suggest?

Not sure what you've watched, but I recommend the Kino's Journey box set, which is about $30. It's very thought-provoking and very clean.

Go forth and purchase, Osaka! :)

Best Buy around here has the Outlaw Star box for about $40, if I remember correctly. I haven't seen it but I've always wanted to.

Of all the series named so far, escaflowne is the best of em IMHO. I think I paid $180 for the original tv box. That you can buy the dvds for $50 today is astounding O___O;;

If you find newer anime boxsets under sixty bucks, it's probably a bootleg...

Forgive me. I more mean thin packs. You can get many of those, including the Escaflowne and Rahxephon boxed sets for under 60.

It's a shame for those of us who've had to buy single DVDs all the way through and then someone came up with the great idea of thinpacks :/ Not that I even care for the missing extras (one I DO miss is the extra movie in my Azumanga one though v_v Things like that are nice extras...) and maybe cover art missing with the reduced volumes^^ And artsy booklets/mini posters... but thta's it!

I second RahXephon for you (very nice^^) and also add on with the Escaflowne crowd. *shakes fist* Those re-releases were just as bad as Evangelion re-releasing everything a million times >_< I mean, I owned just the movie at one point and the Limited Ed boxset (only one at the time) was too pricey, so with the perfect collection I have, personally I think it's plain and therefore has an ugly appearance AND comes with the movie so had to get rid of mine, only to find out that the Anime legends came out with a brick of it, WITH good cover art >_< Ok I'm done my rant^^ I'm just a VERY visual person, so I like my cover art (and just, art period^^)

Yeah, I have that one, but a little less on the price. But look at this way, we got a pretty box and the black Escaflowne small model with it.

I haven't come across a thinpak yet but I did once come across Lodoss War boxset for around $60 at Barnes & Nobles.I also saw the Haibane Renmei boxset at
Borders and I think that too was cheap.Though I can't recall the exact price now.

I wish I could find a Haibane Renmei box set -_- I saw the first 2 eps of that series and I am hooked but i want the dvds XD. And the Records of lodoss war are not thin packs actually they are just 4 regular volume dvds (cronicles of the heroic knight is at least) and its like $40 if you can find it. Also I forgot to mention Gundam Wing box sets 1 and 2 are $40 a peice ^^

Escaflowne--$35 at Best Buy. (so, NOT a bootleg.)

I'd also recommend the Big O, and I've seen cheap sets of Wolf's Rain, King of Bandit Jing and Haibane Renmei too.

If you are looking at box sets, one of the rather underhanded moves is that they sometimes sell the box with only the first disc. Make sure that all the discs are included.

Thats only when the show is brand new/first released, the publisher is expecting that you will buy the rest of the show if you get the Vol.1+box.

Yeah, which makes early adopters not feel left out at the end of the series.

As for suggestions, I would go with

Trigun
Big O
Outlaw Star
Jing King of Bandits

Thats all the good ones that I can think of that are pretty cheap. Perhaps Trigun would be the most expensive.

I still have yet to find it for less than $100 non bootleg. -_- I hope that it is re released on TV.

The best thing to do is to look around to see if any of the online stores like
Animenation,Robert's Corner Store or Rightstuf is having a special sell on boxsets.
Also if you can find a pre-owned boxset at any of those sites you can buy them
cheap.

I don't know what you might already have or are interested in, but the two box sets I always see are Excel Saga for $60 and Record of Lodoss War (its one of those ones collections that fold out) for about $30.

Well, Best Buy sells the standard Naruto Uncut Box Set 1 at $55. They also sell the Rurouni Kenshin Season 1 at exactly $60.

That is about all I can think of right now. It's unfortunate that anime DVDs cost so much money.=( I use my bank account money for DVDs and CDs but I usually lose more money than gain more money.
