Trigun and Rurouni Kenshin are so similar. Here are there similarities.

The Jupponganta are like the Gung Ho Guns
Knives is like Enshi
Legato is like Shishio
Wolfwood and Sano both have an anti-hero attitude.
Kenshin and Vash can both be goofballs, and both never kill, because of their dark pasts.
Karou doesn't know Kenshin was Battosai and Meryl doubted Vash was really the legendary gunmen.
They both have romance.
They both have action.

So. Which show do you like better? I'd have to say Rurouni Kenshin. :thumb:

I really don't like the character styles in Trigun and have only seen Vol.2 (so I'm a bit biased). I've seen maybe 8 or 9 volumes of Rouroni Kenshin. I preferred Kenshin. It just more enjoyable and easier to relate too. The theme song was rubbish AS though!

i read volume one of trigun and what i didn't like the most was probably the artwork. it just didnt' suit me and the story wasn't my type either. however, i've never seen the anime so i can't make an accurate decision.

I'll have to place my vote with Trigun. While Kenshin couldn't keep my attention I found Trigun quite entertaining.

Kenshiiin. Not only was it my "first" anime, but I absolutely fell in love with the characters, the storyline, the music, and the artwork. Kenshin sits at #2 in my top 5 favorite anime, and it's there for a reason. XD

Not that I don't like Trigun, though. I find Vash to be hysterical, and the characters are intriguing. But I found the story confusing at times, and the setting of the show just wasn't as appealing to me as Rurouni Kenshin.

Ehh...kind of. I wouldn't say they're a mirror of each other, but I can see how you'd think there were *some* similarities.

Knives is like Vash

Um. Knives and Vash are brothers, and they're both from the same series. They're also exact opposites of each other. XD]Legato is like Shishio
Shishio wants world domination, Legato wants...whatever Knives wants him to do (if I remember correctly). O_o?

Wolfwood and Sano both have an anti-hero attitude.

On the one hand, maybe. On the other hand,
Wolfwood IS one of the Gung-ho Guns. So he kind of IS an anti-hero, in the simplest form of the word.
And I find Sano to be far more belligerent than Wolfwood, not to mention less willing to comply. XD

Kenshin and Vash can both be goofballs, and both never kill, because of their dark pasts.
Actually, Vash does kill. In one of the last few episodes, he kills Legato.
They both have romance.

Trigun barely has any romance. In fact, it's not until the final two or three episodes that any of it comes into play. Kenshin, on the other hand, has romance scattered throughout the series.

So yeah, I do like Trigun, but I just like Rurouni Kenshin better. :thumb:

I like them both, almost equally. This will be a hard decision for me, b/c I am in love with a lot of the characters. At the moment, even though this may seem like treason or hypocrasy for someone with the username oro, I believe I'll go with Trigun.
The series is short, concise, and more modern. It even has some Christian elements, although I truthfully don't believe in a lot of it. ONE of the hooks for me was the song that Vash's "girlfriend" sings. It is so beautiful, the sound of it.
The themes and trials that Vash and Kenshin go through are so similar that it is hard to chose, but now it's done...

definetly TRIGUN! I think that there is a little more subtlety going on as far as symbolism through the characters and conflict for the planet is more moving to me,
one thing that is different is that in Vash's past he is not much different from the future

Ruroni changes dramatically and is more of a redemptive theme
whereas Vash is more of a battle of the will against temptations of the flesh

Trigun is a beautiful thing. If only it wasn't so expensive, I'd have it all. Maybe soon. Maybe.

But Trigun...

Renshin rocks as well though.

*Ahem. Looks at name.*

Of course I like Trigun best. That being said, I also like Ruroken a lot.

I'll second your opinion. No anime can boast of a better season than the Kyoto Arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

actually the Jinchuu arc from the manga of Ruroken blows Kyoto out of the water..

I like Kenshin better because there is more to it than just the anime. You have to do your homework to understand a lot of Ruroken. plus, It's sorta based on History.

While I do like SciFi I find that I like historical a lot too. And Kenshin fits that.

Plus, Kenshin's past is really horrible. Granted Vash lost a lot as well.. I can't even imagine what Kenshin went through.

*huggles them both* I love Trigun and Kenshin, but I had to go with RK ALL THE WAY.

I enjoyed both very much. The stories did have very similar plots and back-stories - the major difference being setting.

Over all, though, I felt Trigun had a better flow to it. I'm not one for lengthy monologues before, during, and after major plot points. While Kenshin was no where near as bad as say DBZ or Yu-Gi-Oh, there were still moments where I wanted to shout “Just fight already!â€

I haven't gotten very far in Kenshin yet, so I hold off on that.

No anime can boast of a better season than the Kyoto Arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

I'll be comparing it to the Alabasta Arc of One Piece when I get there and see whether or not that holds true. =p

My sentiments exactly. XD That's another thing I love about Kenshin, though. You read the first arc, and you're like, "This is an awesome series!" Then you read the second (Kyoto) arc, and you say, "Whoa! This is a really awesome series!" Then you read the Jinchuu arc, and you're just kind of left speechless. XD It only gets better! :D

I loved both series, but I have to say I preferred RK simply because of the historical time setting. (I studied history in college)

Though I must say I really enjoyed those little philosophical talks Vash had at the end of each episode!

Also,
Kenshin doesn't kill because of Tomoe... Vash doesn't kill because of Rem
I actually wrote an Amalgam-comics style fanfic about this, starring Kenshin the Stampede...

Well, I don't know that I can say their pasts are all _that_ similar... {g} I say this to warn any new watcher not to expect Vash to actually be a former assassin who chose a life of murder in order to do what he really thought (at the time) was the best thing. (No huge spoilers there, I think--since the opening frames of the RuroKen anime give _that_ completely away. {g} Whereas it's a slightly open question in the Trigun anime, up through ep 5, whether Vash really is the infamous Humanoid Typhoon whom Meryl and Millie are looking for.)

I honestly don't know if I can register a meaningful vote in this poll (great idea, though!) I like them both equally well, for similar and for different reasons. The weaknesses of RK (mainly pacing) are offset by Trigun, and vice versa (mainly subtle theological subtext. Though theological may not be the right word in this case; more like "how now shall we live in this world?")

Overall, I'd probably have to rate Trigun slightly better in virtue of several technical issues; but whenever I think about clicking the little button up there, the sentimental side of my head screams "NO! KENSHIN HAS SENTIMENTAL MEANING!!!" {g}

(It was the first modern anime series I fell in love with; and it remains the favorite of a friend I hugely admire--see my sig below {s!}--though the first anime I fell in love with was _Star Blazers_ back when I was a boy--see other parts of my sig below {ancient g!})
