Tenchi Muyo! (Toonami Edit)

Ah, Tenchi...one of the "classic" Toonami shows. The fact it was actually edited made things even better. Less foul language, dressed up nudity, etc. Finally a chance for fans to watch something and have the bad things pulled out. ^^

So who besides me loves Tenchi? I've seen all the series that aired on Toonami, plus the second movie, and all the Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S stuff that has so far been released. Unfortunately the second movie was getting a bit iffy for me so I ditched it, but luckily Pretty Sammy and MPS were edited enough for me to stand. ^^ So? Anyone? Anyone? XD

And obviously if you didn't guess it already, Sasami is my favorite character. The fact she got her own series from Magical Project S was so nice. Especially since it was already made fairly clean. *lol*

I really liked it on Toonami, but I haven't seen anything else and therefore can't really be considered a 'fan'. However, I'd really like to know who Tenchi ended up with (if anyone), since it's incredibly unlikely I'll ever see them again and I never found out. Could you PM me, possibly?

No one knows who Tenchi has ended up with yet. 3rd OVA come out from 2003 and just end in early 2005 in Japan. Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki OAV 3 is six eps and I think they plan on doing another six eps down the road, I think.

This is why I loved Tenchi Universe (TV) over the OVA's. There was not much that they had to edit it out and I found a webpage that shows the cuts that did for Cartoon Network, it wasn't that bad at all, but it still needed be cut for Toonami. Now if they showed Tenchi Universe now on AS, they would be very little editing to it.

I love tenchi and at the next con I do plan on picking up the new dvd.

First the two series are pretty different, and personally I liked the first series that they stopped then just recently started back up, cleaner, funnier, and much more tenchish. Oh and it acctually had tenchi not being a complete wuss.

Uh, are you talking about the two OVA's or the two TV shows?

Sorry, while I could do without the nudity, I got to go for the unedited JP dialogue... there was a lot more depth than even the subs let on, and as for the dub... what more was there to cut out, as even the uncut version was totally rewritten to be "G" rated in the dub.

The Toonami edits used to be available, but it looks like it got killed. They edited the OVA, and added them into Tenchi Universe. Basically it was the same as the butchering of Sailor Moon and Macross.

I liked Muyo better than Universe, honestly...the characters felt more real to me, and I just love Washu asking Ryoko to call her "mom." Universe didn't have that. XD

Wingzero22 wrote:Uh, are you talking about the two OVA's or the two TV shows?

I'm thinking maybe he's talking about GXP? GXP is the sequel to Muyo (not Universe), and it was a TV series, so it was a bit cleaner than Muyo itself (though the little robot dude was pretty perverted).

Oo! Oo! *raises hand and bounces in chair* I DO! I LOVE TENCHI!!

I like Muyo better than Universe too, and I like Muyo and Univers better than Tokyo. I HATE tokyo. Sakuya erks me... *eye twitch and low growling*

I figured out Sayuka's secret a long way before they revealed it. I thought Yugi or whatever her name was was a good sympathetic villainess, but the ending was ruined.

the artwork wasn't so great either. I just don't like Tenchi in Tokyo.

Yeah, but he lost me when you said two tv series. Since you really have three, Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo and Tenchi Muyo! Galaxy Police Transporter

But I thought Tenchi GXP was a spinoff of Tenchi Muyo! (OAV) and not a sequel and Tenchi was just what, one ep of it?

The thing that I just didn't like about the OVA, because it it has taking this long to have ending, where Universe somewhat had ending. Plus, you have Kiyone that is in Universe, but she not in the OVA, well she is in the 3rd one.
In the 3rd OVA, we find out that Tenchi's mom's name is Kiyone. She has very very light icy blue hair and doesn't look at all like the Kiyone that we have seen in Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo.
I still have a little love for the OVA's, since I have a few clean cels from the OVA's. Mostly Ryoko in her battle outfit, then again, the cel could be from the Universe.

Tenchi Universe is my favorite series because it's the only one with a real ending (unless you count Magical Project S). I LOVE the Tenchi Forever movie, it's one of my all time favorite movies, both for anime and in general.

I actully like Tenchi In Tokyo a lot. I thought it had a really cool idea, the villians reminded me of Sailor Moon, and Sakuya added a lot of tension to the series (and her english VA is one of my favorites: Julie Maddelena!) What I didn't like was the ending and the fact that the writers re-started the storyline AGAIN. Tenchi in Tokyo would have been cooler if it had been a second season of Universe, instead of a totally new storyline.

Correct. GXP follows the OAV storyline (which is why I am fond of it), since Kiyone isn't present and Ryo-Ohki has a humanoid form.

So far, Tenchi and the gang were only in a cameo appearance in one episode (though Washu and Ryo-Ohki had shown up before then). The unfortunate thing if you're a fan of the dub of Tenchi is that Funi didn't hire the same voice actors that did the Muyo/Universe dub, so all the characters sound different, and it sucks. Tenchi's voice in GXP = teh crappy.

Plus, you have Kiyone that is in Universe, but she not in the OVA, well she is in the 3rd one.

Actually, that's a positive for me, as I really didn't like the character of Kiyone. I personally felt she added nothing to the series, and was just dead weight. This is why I was glad she wasn't in the OAV (aside from the Mihoshi special).

I dunno. For me, the characters felt more developed and interesting in a 13 episode series than in a 26 episode series, as crazy as it sounds. There was a background between Ryoko and Yosho, which was interesting. Sasami also had a whole lot more background
the whole Tsunami deal
and plus
it's freakin' cool how Yosho isn't really old, it's just a holographic disguise that he puts up to make everyone think he is...given the long lifespans that Juraians are supposed to have, that's why it didn't make sense that he actually WAS old in the Universe series.
But, to each their own. ^^

Ah, Ayeka. Such the spoiled little princess. My brother calls her an evil witch. But I like her determination. She's got spunk, and knows what she wants.

I was originally a fan of Mihoshi when I started reading the mangas but when I saw the movie Tenchi Forever I changed over to Ayeka.Although to be honest it took a bit to get used to her voice.

[purist mode]Not Ayeka. Aeka. A-E-KA. あえか. Japanese has no 'ye' sound. They use 'e' [/purist mode]

and she was my favorite chara too.

Re: Kiyone. She's not officially part of the OVA continuum (that Mihoshi Special nobody can agree as to whether it's part of the OVA or not). She is officially part of the Universe continuum.

With the movies:
Movies 1&3 use the Universe for the background.
Movie 2 is a sort of mishmash of both

New Tenchi Muyo (Tenchi in Tokyo) is unrelated to all the others.

I bring to you another Tenchi spin-off series!!!!

The character designs are scary. I wonder how long it will be before someone picks this up.

I really liked the Tenchi series. Washu was the greatest.

Washu was cool. She's the total mad scientist. And she's funny too. I swear though, her dubbed voice sounds like Roseanne whats-her-face from the old show Roseanne. My brother says so too, are we the only ones who noticed? Or are we hearing things... but sometimes, Roseann sounds like Washu... Not that I watch Roseanne, but I've seen an episode or two, enough to know.
