13-14 age range? For a boy or a girl?

For girls if you want bittersweet, not terribly objectionable plots with a dash of silliness there's always Fruits Basket or Full Moon Wo Sagashite. For more of a an action/adventure plot that would appeal to girls try Scrapped Princess. If they're into angst/drama/sad love stories you can't beat Voices of a Distant Star - it's short but heartwrenchingly good.

For boys maybe Scryed, Naruto, or Yu Yu Hakusho if they like lots of action and fighting - or if they're into sports maybe Prince of Tennis?

Rurouni Kenshin would suit either boys or girls, though there is some swearing as there seems to be in all anime series for the preteens on up.

Your best bet is to look up the anime reviews on this site and see which plots sound like they are appealing.

Gundam Wing and Cowboy Bebop are great action series with little cursing and blood.

If you want a little (OK, a lot of) romance for a great box-set buy, I heartily recommend Marmalade Boy. There's four box sets, so start with the first one and see if you like it. They're usually selling at a great price.

If you want something that's missed the radar, I recommend trying out Master Keaton or Aura Battler Dunbine.

Finally, for a really uplifting series (and one that's perfect for ladies but guys should enjoy, too), you should try Kaleido Star. It's now in a cheap, thinpak set.

Um, Elfin Lied is given a TVMA rating for Violence, Nudity and Sex. It is inappropriate for anyone under 18.

Yes. I just stated that these may or may not be the age limit asked for, but that it was a direct copy of my christmas list. I was merely showing mine, not reccomending any.

Er, actually, Tenchi Muyo! is NOT appropriate for the 13-14 year old crowd. There is full frontal nudity and quite a bit of harsh language and violence. Tenchi Universe (the TV series) is appropriate for 13-14 year olds, though.

You didn't specify gender, but all of these are suggestions for girls, as I can't think of any 13-14 year old boys that would like these.

Snow Fairy Sugar. It's safe for ages 3 and up, and is a very sweet story about a girl named Saga who finds a Snow Fairy named Sugar.

Saint Tail is also a cute show, though the DVDs are hard to find since they are discontinued. Try ebay or other online sites.

Cardcaptor Sakura, of course, is an excellent series (NOT the crappy English Cardcaptors dub). In fact, they're now rereleasing the first half of the series in the Clow Box Set, if I'm not mistaken.

Fruits Basket is a good series for either gender.

I can tell you what my daughters, ages 12 and 16, like.

12 year old: Princess Nine, Kaleido Star, Spiral, Pretear, Princess Tutu
16 year old: Prncess Tutu, Pretear, Scrapped Princess, Witch Hunter Robin, RahXephon (series, not movie, due to content issues), and His & Her Circumstances (content issue in one epsiode).

And the Studio Ghibli movies are appropriate for older children and above.

Let's see...for a boy age 13-14...

I'd say Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Inuyasha (I personally don't like it, but it's insanely popular)...

If I were you I'd try Fruits Basket. Okay, so it IS a girl anime (technically), but it's mostly comedy, and there is plenty of action to go around. Besides, TONS of boys like Fruits Basket :) Other than that, I'd go with Full Metal Alchemist (which I just recently got into myself).

i would say full metal alchemist as well cuz it is excellet and also fruits basket is a very funny series and it is very recommendable. Big O is a decent choice because it is a mecha series that is pretty good but weird.

Thats no joke I only watched the first 10 minutes of the first one, it was waaay to gory for me I dont think the show went 10 seconds without more blood showing up.

On a happier note! Get scrapped princess! I've only the first disc but its really interesting and funny. Its got great action in it to, its definetly one of my favorites.
