Robotech New Generation

As some of you know, I'm a really big Macross Saga fan. But I recently tried out the new generation, which is the third segment if the Robotech series(in Japan it was called Genesis Climber Mospedea). I saw a dvd at Gamestop and decided to check it out. And let me say it's really cool. As with Macross, it has cool fighter jets that turn into mecha, but it also has motorcycles, too! I was also pleased to see how the storyline is pretty different from the Macross Saga. Unfortunately, I had to take the dvd back to Gamestop because it kept skipping, but I would like to get the box-set. All in all, it's a pretty cool show.

Which version? I really, intensely, dislike what ADV has done with Robotech Remastered.

I'm not talking about that "remastered" stuff. I'm just talking about the third segment. The one with Scott Bernard and the fight against the invid. I wasn't so sure how it would be, because I can't stand the Masters, but I was pleasently surprised at how much I like New Generation.

No, I understand that, but is this the remastered version or the original?

I hated the Remastered version too. What's with all the stupid cheesy laser beam sounds? The gunpod noise is CLASSIC.

Hikikomori, we're well aware of that. In this case, however, we really are talking about Robotech, not just its component ancestors.

As for your question, Shooraijin, I'm talking about the original, none of that remastered crap. I'd like to find the box set.

Griffychan wrote:I personally LOVE the Remastered version of Robotech. Why? Because I think it has way better sound effects (I felt the original sound effects were weak) with 5.1 surround sound. Also the picture quality of it was sooo much superior to that of the Legacy and original DVD boxsets. I swear, compare the picture quality of the original Robotech DVDs to the Remastered DVD's and you'll see easily that the Remastered version has much better clearer brighter picture quality. Granted I have seen the Animeigo version of original Japanese Macross and even though the picture quality of that is better than even the Remastered version of Robotech, the picture quality of the Remastered version of Robotech is still a lot better looking than the picture quality of the original Robotech DVD releases. Also some of the new bonus footage was nice. Granted they didn't put all of the footage from original Macross, Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber back into Robotech Remastered back in, but they put a lot of it back in. I myself am happy to own the Remastered boxsets. In other words, personally I found the Robotech DVD's that were released before the remastered versions to be crap. However that's just me. To each there own.
I agree with you about the sound remastering. It is quite a bit better.
As far as the video quality, while it's an improvement over the original and the black box releases (which I own), I disagree with it looking much better than AnimEigo's enhanced Macross -- the recent release. In fact, if you look in the credits, AnimEigo *gave* ADV the footage, and *AnimEigo* did the enhancement! They're actually the same master, believe it or not. A good master, but the same one.
What I dislike about Robotech Remastered is the changes to the OP/ED sequences, the "tacked on" sound effects, and the modified eyecatches. For me, that was part of the show -- sort of a George Lucas-y Special Edition thing and I really detest that kind of thing, especially here where it adds nothing to the story. It didn't feel like the original anymore.
EDIT: Here's the credit, btw:

Yeah, same here. I'd like to see the new Macross dub, but I most likely won't buy it.

I bought the Third Generation DVD set last year, non-remastered. Watching the show again after 10 years was somewhat sentimental

I started collecting the non-remastered when thy first come out.
Robotech was one of the first anime I had seen. A new series or movie that picks up where the new gen ended is coming out soon.
