I saw Kakurenbo and was wondering if anyone else on CAA was going to discuss it. But actually, unless it is a social/political critique based on circumstances I am not aware of, I was rather unimpressed.

I saw about half of it in between throwing up (I was sick Saturday night...and at the con, too!
). My reaction was pretty much the same as my reaction to most things in the "horror" genre: What's the point?
The art was sort of pretty, I'll say that much for it.

Yeah, that was something. The ending freaked me out a little. Does anyone know whether it's a series or just a short little episode? I hadn't heard of it before this. I suppose they were just showing it because of Halloween. I don't know. Hide and seek creeps me out anyway.

Random thought:
Anyone ever heard of "Ain't No Boogers Out Tonight"?
Go play that outside and prepare to be scared.

Aint no boogers out tonight? What the heck is that? PM that one to me, if you don't mind.
I thought Kakurenbo was all right. It had enough suspense to keep me interested, and the ending was a big surprise. So I guess I thought they did a pretty good job with it, especially for being so short. The reason I didn't absolutely love it, however, was that I'm just not a fan of the genre. If you are looking for something fresh and creepy, by all means watch it and see what you think. I enjoyed watching it, but I probably wouldn't pay to see it.

Two hour special movie? What Cartoon Network showed was one half hour.
I must be missing something.
Actually, what I definitely was missed the ending, as I was vomiting into the toilet at the time.

Ah, that's too bad. I hope you get to see it again. And as far as I know, it was only a half hour special.

This was supposed to be horror? That would explain why it was showing at Halloween, and also a bit about the intended purpose. This is honestly the first time I realized it was supposed to be a horror film. It simply wasn't scary; I thought it was meant to be action or science fiction/cyberpunk.
I thought Inmu and Yanku (the two who go around without saying anything) were going to be important, and then I discovered they don't even matter. One of many disappointments.

I haven't seen this but the description sounds like a rip off of Battle Royale, which originally made it's debut as a submission for a horror novel.
Or failing that, a ripoff of Gantz.
Sounds like the well is getting dry in Japan

It wasn't the best, but it was interesting for being just a half an hour. I'm not real into the whole 3D animation thing, but it was pretty. It was nice for a little Halloween thing, but I guess it doesn't go much further than that.

Kakurenbo...Eh, it was ok. I liked some of the art (lose the masks! I wanna see faces! XD), and the story line was...Interesting, haha. I pretty much thought it was weird, in a freaky type of way. Haha! I mean, it was good, but...Any time you hear chidren singing in monotonous little voices...Oh yeah. Creepy. LOL, but it was pretty good overall. I didn't expect it to be only one episode, but it's actually a 25-minute movie! o.o Anyways, if you like horror/suspense anime, then I'd reccomend it! n.n It's not my favorite by far, but it deserves to be mentioned.

Actually they had three brothers if you wacth the chase sequeance closely...and I was really disspointed i thought the 2 would play a bigger part in the movie but i guess how it happend and what happend was good enough......... so iam guessing the twins are like hmm like 13 or 12 and the little brother of theres was like 9 or 10 since he was younger and way shorter then the 2 twins...in the website it dont metion the little brother but when u wacth it you see someone else running with them with the same mask on but shorter running behind them and he had the same cool moves as the twins so iam just guessing thats the little brother..It would make more since I think....

I'm fairly certain everyone wore masks because they're easier to digitally animate than faces.

I am not familiar with Gantz, but I don't think it is really like either title. The description doesn't represent the show well, in my opinion. Its setup is extremely minimal and quickly becomes irrelevant.

Was that the one with the cat masks? If it is, I think the masks are cool.

I think they called them fox masks, but they looked more like cats to me, too.

Yup. Theyre wearing traditional japanese kitsune masks.

Okay, the ending where they are in the country and start playing again: what's with that? Does that mean many cities use children to power them electrically? I am still thinking about this movie after a month, so ya know it made some kind of impression. What was the point in the game for the masks, because they could only go in with them.

The ending isn't clear, but I think you're reading slightly too much into it. All of the anime focuses on a single city; it seems to me the focus of the ending is that the cycle is just beginning again, not that it exists elsewhere.
As for the masks... I still hold they exist solely because they are far easier to animate.
