Its so horriable!!! They voices dont even come close to the characters! Very little emotion and enthuism as there was in the sub. Alot of the dialog was changed!!! pretty much no blood, someone get a huge star in their back you cant tell me there will be no blood. im very dissapointed, im sticking with the subs.

Well what do you expect. Young Americans can not witness blood spatter in animation or men with bloody noses when they see a sexy woman.
Acourse they would not understand the meaning for what would be understood in Japanese so all the dialogue is changed so we Americans can get the meaning behind what is being said.
We the Otaku will understand the meaning behind Japanese anime while those that are un Otaku will think we are the weird people.

OI... I like this dub! at least they still keep the honorific! ^_^
Sensei!
Naruto's voice sounds familiar... and I have heard it from something non-anime...
and DUDES! I HEARD RICHARD HAYWORTH! That makes me happy! ^_^
I like this anime so far! I don't care if the dialouge is different.."they can't say the exact same thing..the voiceswouldn't the mouth flaps."
And blood on Toonami? WHEN has blood been on toonami?

My thoughts on Naruto:
It could of been better but it has been two episodes and much like wine, it may get better with age hopefully. I agree with Mr Smartypants that they replaced it with funky music crap stuff. I missed my "Rocks" and "Akeboshi".
Onto the dubs. Most of them were durable. Nothing compared to some of the anime that is dubbed (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Last Exile, etc) but is duable. But thier is a lack of emoition. It has that Fox Box Reading of the Lines type sound which is ok unless it's way to prevelent but in this case, that sound fades away. Naruto's does get annoying and sounds to young and soft but otherwise decent. Iruka's was so so. I liked Mizuki's and the Hokage's voice. They fit those two. I also heard the voice actor who voiced the most lovable Nicholas D. Wolfwood. He was in episode 1 in the group of ninjas. He says "What do we have to do, smoke 'em out?" and then the Hokage comes in and says "the scrolls say blahblah blah blah blah" That was fun hearing him other as Wolfy.
The editing is to be expected and you can't knock on them for that. Granted it is at the 9 o clock time frame so we did get some unedited blood scenes. Not a whole bunch but we got to see Iruka struck by the giant pin wheel of death and some blood on his back. I missed though drops of blood dripping on Naruto's face. We also got Sexy no Jutsu (in which, for some odd reason, I think is funny). Consdering what it is, I was extremely surpirsed they left that in basically unedited to my knowledge.
I am glad they left in most of the orginal theme music. Though I wish they would of left in the orginal opening and closing theme songs but since it's on t.v. That is to be expected and it's a corproate thing, not a "let's tick the fans off" thing.
Basically, I was surpised over some things and dissapointed in others. It
s a average dub. But I prefer subbed in this case. I do look foward to hearing some of the other voice actors (like steve jay blum as Zaubuza).
I think it is important to note that thier is no reason to put hatred or anger towards english voice actors of the companies. They are doing thier job as they see fit and as the company instructs them. They are not out to ruin anime (though it may seem like they are for certain series) but I think we need to keep that in mind.

Eh. I'm watching it now. It's not unwatchable, but it's by no means great. Hopefully we'll get a sub on the DVD. The dub will do for now. I don't think the voices are THAT bad.
Changes/Mess-Ups: All the words are pronounced more or less correctly, but the emphasis is off on quite a few names. Blood has been removed from the nosebleed scenes, and touched up all around.

So here in Canada it doesn't air until this Friday... I was interested in watching it just to see how well the dub went, and if they kept the original songs. *sigh* hoping for at least the songs to stay the same but nope! Can't remember who dubbed Naruto cause it's a diff company that isn't 4Kids or anything (I think?) so thinking there'd be a chance like the Bandai anime on TV etc :/

Naruto sounds like he's voiced by a woman; is this correct, because I know that alot of female VAS tend to do the young boy parts? Also, who's doing the dub voices of Sasuke and Sakura? I heard that Steve Blum was doing Kakashi, not Zabuza, but I could be wrong.....

Also, any word yet on the DVD releases? I've heard a number of times on this forum that even the DVDs will be edited, thus we'll have to wait even longer for them to release the rumored uncut boxsets..... all it is is more and more waiting.... and waiting..... and waiting....... O.o

Eh. I thought the name pronunciation was weeeird, especially "konohamaru." Hokage's voice could've been better. I'm really wondering how Sasuke will sound. I thought it was pretty disappointing but hopefully it'll get better. I don't know what they're going to do when the show gets darker. I think this belonged on Adult Swim.

About theme music for different series. I attended a corporation panel showing of Guu at Otakon and the ending theme was changed to a old disco music intermental. REASON, licensing conflict. So what we Americans will buy at the store will not be what we down loaded from the web for our or anime club entertainment or what we got to see subed at a con

Eva Boy, Naruto is voiced by a women, Maile Flanagan. Whoose anime credits are only a minor character in Astroboy. In my viewpoint, I think a more seasoned veteran of anime VA'ing would be required to voice the main character.
Sakura is voiced by Kate Higgins whoose credits range from Scrapped Princess to Zatchbell. Sasuke os voiced by Yuri Lowenthal who voiced many video games as well as anime such as Scrapped Princess, Rave Master, and Zatch Bell. Of all those, Yuri seems the most qualified for such a important character.

They left

So in comparison, it's better than the OP dub, right?

I thought Colleen O'Shaugnessy (excuse my spelling) was voicing Sakura... (She voiced Sora in Digimon, and a lot of other stuff.)

No, they changed it. Colleen O'Shaughnessey is in the series voices both Ino and Konohamaru.

Yes. So much better. (Shudders as he remembers the first appearance of Sanji and the customer guessing the year for the fruit juice. The gag just doesn't work with juice.)
Anyhoo, I wish they'd have put bikinis on all those women. The smoke's way too convenient and I can just picture some angry parents writing nasty letters to their TV guides about how "Cartoon Network's corrupting our kids with some perverted cartoon called Naruto" blah blah blah.
At least with the bikinis it wouldn't get parents as upset.

it wasnt THAT bad...but it wasnt that good either...it was just...average. i expect to make a descision on how it is after hearing kakashi and tsasuke (if they screw neji up i will want to murder some va's) so far naruto's va was average, hokages and narutos sensei (cant remeber his name) where good, and so was hinata. didnt like sakuras voice from what i heard (it annoyed me greatly but that could just be the part) and so did ino's the white haired guy (cant remeber his name either)
i acctually have high hopes after seeing sexy no jutsu included. that means they MAY not have altered much besides the blood. (that was hilarious watching people go flying for no apparent reasont then wiping there nose) oh and i may buy this after seeing how kakashi and tsasuke are done

It's like in OP how of all the things they cut out, they left all the women in skimpy outfits. Go figure...

This was an excellent dub. The only bad thing is that the opening and closing were changed.

The in-show music was the same as the original. I have it on good authority that the script is pretty much a word for word translation. Some of you must have got a hold of a bad sub(that's right, the sub you think of so highly might be the true travesty). They kept alot of the blood. They didn't keep the nose bleeds because the blood was gushing out of their noses like they had a fire hose in there. Big deal. They also kept the Sexy no Jutsu. It's rated TV-PG for crying out loud! You guys are actually complaining about this!? Viz should be praised for this. This is airing in a time slot where TV-PG was unthinkable. The show was given as minimal editing as possible. It was translated as closely as possible. This is the best treatment an anime on Cartoon Network has recieved outside of Adult Swim. To bash it and say it's horrible because it's not
exactly like the Japanese version is ridiculous. It makes all otaku's look bad. You know what this says to Viz? That even if they treat an anime as well as they can, they're still going to get mercilessly bashed for it. They may decide that making an accurate dub might not be so important.
And I thought the dub VAs were pretty good.
I guess I'll go back to the Toon Zone talkbacks. The Naruto fans over there seem to be more...understanding.

Thanks for the info :-) Yeah I looked up the finer details on
http://www.imdb.com. I have the first DVD of Scrapped Princess; I'll have to double check who Higgins and Lowenthal play, as I love the show so far. As previously stated, my excitement and zeal are more geared towards the DVD releases (hopefully will be uncut, as is typical with DVD, though rumors have said otherwise...). In the words of Arwen Undomiel (from the films): "There is still hope..."

i really have to agree with chosen raven. It's not bad besides some of the VA's seem like newbies. I noticed something after rewatching them (tivo which will NOT stop recording random shows!) i liked the second episode a ton better then the 1st. why? no sakura, no random guy number 5 which there voices suck, narutos voice, konohamaru and narutos sensai (cant remeber his name) are not bad (hey its not excell dub so i can stand the voice, looks back and shudders). and i really liked the closet pervert teacher guy and the hokage. they seemed to have emotion.
I say this now, by the time we see neji (if the ruin his voice im hunting someone down) all the current VA's will be a ton better since most of them are fairly new to the bussiness.
Oh and who does hinata so far she has the best VA for the one line she does.
And on a last thought kudos to CN and Viz for keeping it as close to the japanese as possible.

Actually, what struck me most watching this wasn't at all what I expected. More on this later.
I'm not terribly impressed with the voice actors, but I should be clear: I think they have room for improvement, not that I feel the actors were poorly chosen. The voices more or less matched the characters, or at least as well as I felt the Japanese voice actors did (of course, that's given my limited understanding of Japanese). My only real pet peeve is that it was terribly obvious that Naruto's voice actor was female. As I didn't watch all of episode two, I'm not sure how much graphical editing there really was.
But what actually struck me more than anything was that the first two episodes of Naruto weren't really that great in the first place. I'm a fan of the series and think it has many worthwhile qualities, but my impressions of the later parts influenced my memories of the beginning.
In any case, I wasn't immediately turned away from the dub. We'll have to see how they handle later parts of the series.
