Has anyone seen Yellow Submarine?

Hey, has anyone seen The Yellow Submarine, you know, that cartoon-movie from the sixties that has the Beatles and all that stuff? Well, I have not seen, but while having a dinner conversation with my family, this movie was brought into the conversation. I told my dad that it looked pretty random and asked him if we could check the movie out. random stuff makes me laugh, especially when I'm tired! He said yes and we're going to check it out this friday and have a movie night. Yay! So, umm, has anyone here seen it? Was it cool? I think that it has a trumpet with legs, and that sounds pretty cool! lol So has anyone seen it? If so let me know and tell me how good it was. thanks in advance.

never seen it but why did you put this in anime. From the few clips i have seen of it it is definetly not anime. This probably should be moved to goof off or general

Yellow Submarine was, as is very evident in watching it, a product of the late 60s psychedelic drug culture. It has a very Peter Max feel to it which was very popular at that time. It's generally a vehicle for much of the music the Beatle's were putting out during the period. The overall theme is that the Beatles ride the Yellow Submarine to Pepperland to free it from the Blue Meanies.

The film is pretty much nonsensical with the feel of a bad drug trip. I watched it when it first came out in 1968. Never cared to see it since.

I really like Yellow Submarine, but I already have an apreciation for The Beatles, so my oppinion is a little slanted. It's deffinately random and colorful and stuff, but the uber-goofy writting kind of wears a little thin by the end. A movie can only contain so many puns before the audience begings to suffer somewhat.

Still, it features an armless vaccum cleaner monster, and that's gotta count for SOMETHING

I like the Yellow Submarine, it's pretty funny. I saw it when I was younger so I guess I didn't get the whole drug thing. There are some parts you might want to fast forward because a song will go on for a loooong time.

Agreed on the Peter Max styling, and agreed it was little more than a Beatles vehicle styled like a bad drug trip, but disagree that it was nonsensical. It was actually quite satirical, reflecting a lot of the hostility the Beatles had for the recording industry (in the personage of the Blue Meanies and their host of minions). Like A Hard Day's Night and Help, it showed the Beatles' humorous side, something that was sorely needed after they ran into a Beatlemania backlash following (among other things) John's comments about how the Beatles were more popular than Jesus (at the time not true, but nowadays I sometimes wonder...).

Not to say that I recommend the film, there are plenty better ways to spend your time, but if you want a sort of snapshot of that particular era, it's one offering.

I imagine this probably came out during the years the beetles where drugged up (and im really suprised this hasnt been moved yet since it has nothing to do with anime)

Actually, it was more a reaction against the cartoon series that began in 1965 featuring the fab four which they lothed. They wanted to do something that would rip that image to pieces.

I saw it. Though I like the Beatles, I fail to see all the fuss made about the movie. But for the time, it was very good animation.

No one has brought up the "University of Whales" joke?
