Impacto_Alberto was 100% right. Giant Robo is a must-see anime masterpiece. Action, top-notch animation, martial arts, great fight scenes, TONS of drama, fleshed out characters, great story, & lotsa plot twists!

This is not some cheesy rock-em sock-em robot show. This is a masterfully woven, action-packed, drama that every anime fan owes themselves to see. GO BUY IT!!!

It is already on my netflix queue at 208. Depending on how soon the whole thing is released, I'll probably move it closer to the top.

Well, there are three American DVDs, and according to my sources, the third one should've been released. Remember, this series really requires you to view all seven episodes pretty closely together.

It may be released, but netflix doesn't have its copy yet, so I have it on reserve. When it gets in it'll move to the top of my queue.

I'm really interested in seeing Giant Robo. Has the entire series been released on DVD yet or are they doing it one-DVD at a time?

They released it here in America over the span of 3 volumes, which I believe are all available now. My suggestion is to find the import boxset on Ebay first. It's not a bootleg, has english subs and dub(along with orginal audio), and perfect video quality. :thumb:

Hmm, if I put it on my Blockbuster Q today, I should get it shortly before the year 2018.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Well, I might start doing some cross-country driving, cramming GR DVDs down the throats of all anime fans.

I suppose you're going to get it wholesale somewhere. I don't think people want to see Giant Robo because "it looks silly". That what the few people here say though.

I know. That's what a lot of people say. Truth be told, Giant Robo is somewhat over the top... but the story is so good, and so well done that you can't help but fall in love with it. Also, you have to stick with it. The first two episodes seem cliche and somewhat of a letdown, but if you view all seven, you can see how it all fits together in the end.

And the "silly looking characters..." that's just part of their charm. ^_~

I have it queued on Netflix, but I won't rent it until they get it all in. Once they do I'd love to see it.

Okay... hope I'm not gravedigging here... :gulps:

I just watched the first episode of Giant Robo last night with my brothers. Yay!

I like stuff like that. Sort of reminds me of G Gundam. I keep expecting the Dark Gundam to appear (ahem).

Anyway, I want to ask, does this have a really lame ending, or is it really sad? I might not mind too much (HAH), but this is the first show my younger brother has watched with me and my other brother in ages. (If he decides to watch more than the first episode .) He doesn't like anime anymore (not like I'm sad; there's not much I'd want him watching  ). He says it's dumb and goes on too long and you don't find out how it ends.

Just wondering if this show might confirm that opinion for him. He's a teen, but he's still my 'little' brother, so I don't want to get him into anything he'll hate or find depressing.

Personally, I have a feeling I'm going to like the show. I can't wait to see more of it.

O_O

I love you. You watched Giant Robo. O_O

Seriously, it may remind you of G Gundam because G Gundam and Giant Robo were both directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa.

Is the ending lame? NO. Is it sad? Very. From about the end of episode 3 onto the end, it's a huge climax, and it's all very sad, but still very awesome.

You get 100 cool points for watching GR.

Cool! I actually never saw all of G Gundam, but I liked it. (No I don't know why. I just thought it was fun.)

I have the feeling I'm really going to enjoy Giant Robo, BUT, I must ask you... when you say it's very sad, what percentage of dead heros are we talking about at the end? And how about an out of ten rating for depressing stuff? Thanks!!!!

Yay! Netflix will get vol. 3 of Giant Robo on May 31! So after I finish renting Cardcaptor Sakura, I will definitely consider seeing GR next.

Best Buy recently had these on sale for $9.99 each. However, I just couldn't seem to justify $30.00 when there are so many other titles I'm going with right now. I've never really been much into the giant robo type titles. Perhaps one day when and if they box it up.

Lemme make this clear, in big bold text.

Giant Robo is not a giant robot themed anime.

Giant Robo is a drama series. There are some robots in it, mainly GR1 himself, but it's not about robots or even fighting. There aren't many robot-battles, and most of the action is more martial arts themed.

Again, don't write this off just because it has robots. It's really about the plot and characters, not a bunch of yelling and super attacks. This isn't anything like Go Nagai. Actually, GR doesn't even really have any special attacks. Aside from his punches, he has some rockets and missiles and such.

The series is a retro-futre. Heck, their airship is called the "Greta Garbo", named after the famous actress.

Aw... be nice.

Wh--what if I don't like the ending? Will you <sniffle> be mean to me? [pretends to be pitiful]

Actually, if I don't like it, I might not admit it. :)

A friend once recommended Now and Then, Here and There, and I watched the first episode and *hated* it. That's just not my cup of coffee. I don't remember if I ever told him. :/

I really want to see it, it's just I'm not sure what I'll see after CCS because there's stuff like Saikano, Get Backers, Full Metal Panic, Haibane Renmei, etc. (I'll see Fruits Basket this fall at an anime club) that I also really want to see. It depends on what I feel like at the time. ^^;
