Ah My Goddess TV Preview

So I was able to watch the first two episodes from fansubs and have decided to give my thoughts. Since only two episodes have been released, this isn't a review, more of a first impression.

Production: The art is gorgeous. Character designs remain the same as the OVA and movies. The artistic mood is the same as before. It seems that got the orignal voice actors back as well. It would have been odd to hear a different Belledandy.

Story: The two episodes put us about at the end of the first OVA. But since its been 60 mins instead of 30, there's a lot more time to delve into character interaction. The Senpais are even crazier....

Content: I was worried when I saw the this show was airing late at night. I thought they might echhi-fy it. Fear not, this anime retains its sweet innocence. Amazing, base a series on characters rather than panty shots. Between this and School Rumble, I don't know what I'll do.

Religous Content: No different than the prior OVAs. And if you have trouble with that, you might as well write off anime entirely.

My Rating so fair: 5 stars

Awesome. After Akira got me interested in anime (though I didn't care for it), Ah! My Goddess was the first anime series I watched...and it only strengthened my love of the genre. I can't wait for this series to get here. ^^

They're coming out with a TV series?!? I'd like to watch it, but knowing my schedule, I probably won't have time to enjoy it.

Actually, just because a show airs at night in Japan does not necessarily mean it will always have "mature" content. Usually, it means that the show's expected ratings would be too small to justify a daytime airing. The only shows that typically run during the day in Japan are shoujo shows(Tokyo Mew Mew, Futari wo Pretty Cure and so forth), kids shows(Megaman for example), big mainstream hits(Gundam, etc.), and popular and long-running adaptations of Shonen Jump and Shonen Sunday manga(Naruto, One Piece, Detective Conan,etc.). Everything else is usually broadcast late at night(Last Exile for example.)

Anyways, the Oh My Goddess TV series sounds interesting. I wonder how long it will last. The director, I believe, expressed a desire to animate the entirety of the manga, which is still running. We will see how that holds out...
