Poketto Monsutaa (Pokemon)'s eighth movie!

Postby Angel Mitsuki » Fri Dec 03, 2004 8:30 pm

Squee!~ ^^ I know many people have lost interest in Pokemon as the years have gone by, but I for one never have. I love Pokemon a lot and always will despite it's light-hearted themes. ^^ In fact, I think that's a reason I do like it. It's nice to have an anime that just teaches good things and doesn't really hurt anyone's feelings in particular.

Anyways though, the other day the new episode of Pokemon aired in Japan and after the next episode preview was a small clip for the eighth movie. The movie itself is entitled "Myuu and the Wave Guiding hero!" and of course features the Kanto legendary Myuu (Mew). To have a movie about the pokemon now is somewhat odd as we're closing in on a fourth generation of monsters, but Myuu never did have a good role. All it did was show up in the first movie and disappear!

Personally I'm looking forward to this movie. Myuu has always been one of my favorite pokemon and the fact the movies are now 2 hours long with better plots and animation is nice. I also am interested to see what they have to say about Myuu. The preview itself just said "The many Pokemon legends that have impressed the world...All began with Myuu." And show Myuu around a ruin-like area and a beautiful castle.

Anyways though, is anyone here interested in this info? Heck, is ANYONE still interested in Pokemon besides me? ^^;

I definitly am. I still love pokemon!!! A lot of people over at Bulbagarden are speculating that the new movie could be a sign that Ash's story line may end soon.

I would love to to collect this series on DVD if there was a Japanese version avaliable, but of course, since 4Kids is controlling the strings, it's unlikely.

I'm not a major fan anymore, but I was a long time ago, so Pokemon will in a way have a special place in my heart.

I'm at least going to invest in the import movies when I get the chance....

I enjoy Pokemon, but the games moreso than the anime. I agree that the Ash storyline should end soon...it doesn't make sense. ESPECIALLY since you fight Ash in Gold/Silver/Crystal at the end of the game (except he's called "Red," and I'm assuming it's because "Satoshi" might be Japanese for Red). Also, Team Rocket pretty much disbanded after Gold/Silver/Crystal, so I see no reason for them to be around anymore either.

In all honesty, I liked the Pokemon manga better than the anime. Not the cartoony one with Red and Blue, the realistic one where he was called Ash, he found Pikachu chewing on wires in his house...THAT was a pretty good manga. It had one of my favorite scenes when Brock and Ash went to visit Sabrina:

Brock: "Ash, methinks you have a weakness for cute girls!"

Ash: "Sure do!"

(Brock and Ash give each other a high-five)

Brock and Ash: "DUDE!"

My second favorite scene being when Misty is changing into her skintight wetsuit, and noticing that Ash is ogling her, smacks him upside the head with a Shellder.

And I like Myuu too! I even have an authentic Myuu in my Red/Blue version. I traded it over to my Gold, though...the only way I got him in Ruby/Sapphire was using an Action Replay.

You mean Toshihiro Ono's manga? Ya, I liked that one very much as well. The story was similar to the anime's but was focused on a more mature auidence. Well...the Japanese version was at least. Viz eventually forced Ono to stop the manga because they were upset with him drawing girls with large breasts and didn't like all the nude scenes with Kasumi. I personally wish he would have ignored them them. I'd love to see his version of the Jouto series as well as Houen. *sigh* Ah well, maybe someday he'll restart them...

But personally, I rather enjoyed Pokemon Special. My favorite characters from that are by far Silver and Blue(No, not the boy, the girl. I read the Japanese version only). They're relationship was so cute. Especially when he gives her a new outfit before Houen. ^^

Demo, I'd like to point out, Satoshi doesn't mean red. *lol* In fact, Satoshi doesn't have a meaning. Shi means four, but the Sato has no real meaning. Well, that is unless you count Satoshi Tajiri named Satoshi after himself, then it does have a meaning. But for the record, here is a small list of the main characters English names, Japanese names, and meanings. *lol* I thought I should put this here since I'm a strictly Japanese when it comes to Pokemon.

Satoshi - Ash Ketchum
---Satoshi is the name of Poketto Monsutaa's creator Satoshi Tajiri
---Ash is the firey remains of something and Ketchum like "Catch'em"

Kasumi - Misty
---Kasumi is the Japanese term for 'mist' but it can also translate to the Japanese plant 'Baby's breath'. Personally, I prefer to use the Baby's Breath translation. The rest of Kasumi's sisters are named after plants in both the Japanese and English versions so it makes sense.
---Misty from the English word Mist.

Takeshi - Brock
---Takeshi is the Japanese term for Brave.
---Brock has the word Rock in it which is his specialty.

Kenji - Tracey Sketchit
---The name Kenji has many meanings to it, but I think the meaning here would be "holding onto" or "sticking to". I picked this one because he's the type who really doesn't want to leave something without trying to help.
---Tracey like trace and Sketchit from sketch.

Shigeru Ookido - Gary Oak

---Shigeru is the Japanese term for being luxurious or to luxuriate. It is also the name of Satoshi's Tajiri's best friend--Shigeru Miyamoto. You may know Shigeru as the man behind the creation of Zelda, Mario Brothers, etc. Ookido has no meaning.
----As far as we know, the name Gary hasn't a meaning. The name Oak also doesn't have a meaning. If anything, Oak could be named because it sounds similar to "ookido" and also follows with naming the professors after trees.

Haruka - May
---Haruka is the Japanese term for "Far Away". This also fits with the fact Houen was much farther away than the Orenji islands or the Jouto Region.
---May doesn't have a meaning.

Masato - Max
---Masato itself hasn't a meaning, but when split up, it could have many meanings. Personally, I believe his name meaning is Pure Village. Pure from Ma and Village from sato.
---Max doesn't have a meaning.

Shuu - Drew
---Shuu is the Japanese term meaning "great number" or "masses".
---Drew doesn't have meaning. It was only chosen so it fit the lip flaps for the name Shuu.

Musashi Miyamoto - Jesse
---Musashi is named after the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi.
---Jesse is named after the legendary outlaw Jesse James.

Kojirou - James
---Kojirou is named after Sasaki Kojirou. Sasaki was a strong samurai warrior but was eventually killed by Miyamoto Musashi.
---James is named after the legendary outlaw Jesse James.

And...I think that covers the main characters XD *lol* If anyone needs more translations just say so.

I'm not hugely into Pokemon anymore, but I did make a point to go see the Jirachi movie (was it #6) when I was in Japan last summer.

Thanks for the rundown on the names; it's very interesting, and I've always loved to look at the significance/meaning of names. ^__^

Question: Does Kojiro have something to do with blue?

The only reason I ask is because Kojiro/James has blue hair. In Ocarina of Time, you get a blue rooster named Kojiro.

Just curious.

Thanks for the rundown on the names though! Yeah, it's a shame that manga ended after the Orange Islands saga...it was really good.

Misty: "Have you thought of names for your Pokemon?"

Ash: "Yep! Meet Jean-Luc Pikachu!"

Well, I'm not particularily too judgemental of anime distributed under 4 Kids since I've seen the hackjobs they do...... I'll judge when I see the official Japanese version.

By all accounts, those who have seen the Japanese version usually say it's far more enjoyable than the American version. I would like to see the Japanese version of the TV series myself, but it would require investing in VHS, when I don't currently care for VHS nor do I have my own personal VHS player.

Japanese version? Hmmm...I suppose you could do that, but I really don't see the point of watching Kanto or Houen. Truth be told, the dubs of Kanto and Houen are pretty much an exact translation of the Japanese version, but with little changes made for the English auidence. Two seasons I do reccomend seeing the Japanese version of however, are the Orenji League and Jouto League. 4kids really went too far on them. From adding fake hints involving Kasumi/Misty x Satoshi/Ash to changing one movie's story line altogether.

Kanto and Houen however...both of them are prime examples of good dubs. Kanto was the start of Pokemon, so of course 4Kids tried to make sure they didn't screw around with anything. After all, fans get really ticked off if you mess up on a first season of an anime.

Then Houen...probably one of the best dubs yet. Almost all that is said in the dub is an exact translation of the Japanese version, almost all the music is left in from the Japanese version, and in the 6th movie's dub, they left in Haruka/May's Japanese voice for when she sings. Really, you could choose between the either the Japanese version or English version for those two series, but I'm gonna tell you right now it wouldn't matter as much.

4kids added Ash/Misty hints in Indigo/Kanto too. That's when they created the often hated Misty's Song. A lot of hints are still in the Japanese version too. I wish I could see all the Orange League episodes in japanese subbed, it was my favorite saga. The Hoenn dub is pretty good, but the japanese version is still usually funnier. One of the new episodes that aired yesterday, Manectric Charge, sucked dubbed but it was good in japanese. I have all the Hoenn episodes released so far in japanese, if anyone wants some ^_^!

I'm pretty sure the "Ono was forced to stop writing the manga" thing was just a rumor. For one thing, Viz doesn't have any control over the manga, they just translate it and release it in America. Ono just wanted o move on, so he ended the series at Orange.

Well, even though I grew up with the dub, I prefer, as a student of Japanese, to watch all anime in it's original language. And I would be quite interested to see the Japanese language version. I mean, the Japanese version has Megumi Hayashibara and a handful of other celebrity voice actors for crying out loud.

I have a couple of anime series' I want to add to my collection, but maybe somewhere down the road I'll import a couple of tapes... for nostalgia's sake at least.

Actually it's not. Viz talked about it before and it all came down to Ono just quiting because Viz couldn't handle adult themes in a "kids show" manga. There was more to it, but I can't remember it well. It was quit awhile back. x.x;

I am about as big a Pocket Monsters fan as they come, especially outside Japan. I have loved it since 1999, and probably always will. ^^
I am really looking forward to this movie. Granted, we probably won't get to see it until about early 2006 or so (I know I'm going to get it fansubbed, can't stand the dub), but it does look promising. A very intriging idea (focusing on the fact that Mew was the beginning of the Pokemon chain). It will be good to see Mew again. The first film is my all time favorite film and obviously I love Mew (who wouldn't?). Can't wait. But first, we need to get the 7th movie! Lucky Japan... ^^;

I know what you mean. Pokemon provided my friends and I with a LOT of good times over the years, especially the time when I was twelve years old or so. If I could find Pokemon in Japanese on DVD, I'd have a hard time resisting jumping on the offer, bootlegged or not. I wish the Pokemon CCG was still good...

Dang, I still love them after all these years. I'm currently working on replaying every single one, including buying the ones I don't have. I grew up with Pokemon, so it's always pretty much kept a special place with me. I enjoy the games even to this day.

Well, I recently went on a search for a VHS player, and it was a LOT harder to find one then I thought. Seems they are rapidly dissapearing with the entrance of DVD. Finally, I had to ask my mom if I could have hers. But yeah, it's a bit difficult.
