No, it does not mean pairings. It just means that those two characters are the main ones in the fic (because since there are two boxes, that means that you can also pick for one character in particular- if it were only for pairings, you couldn't do that). And they also have a drop-box for what genre you want, so you can pick action, adventure, spiritual, whatever. So that also helps.

You're very welcome. But I think you're giving yourself too little credit. For example, you weren't rude about this:
But that isn't feasible, and this has been discussed quite a few times on here. Companies want to make an anime series while the manga is popular. This results in the anime running concurrently with the manga, because they know they'll get viewers. And since you can fit more into a 22 minute anime episode than you can in a 20 page manga chapter, the anime is going to catch up to the manga fast. Again, since the purpose of the anime is to draw in viewers of the already popular series, this leaves them with two choices:

1. Create filler episodes to buy time until more chapters of the manga can be produced...this is what Bleach and Naruto do. This is the easier of the two options...there's usually enough secondary/tertiary characters that can be played around with and have absolutely no bearing on the plot, like the filler episodes of Bleach that focus on that spirit hunter guy (forgot his name).

2. This is the harder option, the one that Full Metal Alchemist and Fruits Basket did, is to just say "Well okay now we're just going to ignore the manga and make up our own storyline." This has the added benefit of being something new and different from the manga storyline, instead of just seeing the same thing you read. The downside of course is that usually the anime storyline is horribly inferior.

Again, these are really the only two options...there is technically a third option which would be "End the anime completely and then make an entirely new series later." Naruto did this to an extent with Shippuden, but that's more or less an exception, and besides it's not like the Naruto manga was ending anytime soon. Because, as I said, companies want the anime to run at the same time as the manga. Is this a good plan? It has its ups and downs, but it's how they've done it and how they'll always do it.

Oh, and you are of course right. *sigh* And in my more reasonable moments, I can completely understand it, too. But the completist in me loathes it, all the same.

So, is Naruto doing the same thing FMA did with Brotherhood? I'm not following that particular anime myself, so I'm not too familiar with it. Brotherhood gave me a little hope that maybe some of the more popular anime that ended prematurely could get revisioned somewhere down the road. Though I'm sure it would take another incredibly popular series to make it worth it... I would dearly love to see Fruits Basket and Kenshin finished. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

And as far as I know Kenshin's ending was kind of because of this? They were trying to make filler to buy time for the manga to continue, but the filler was so bad that the ratings died and they just ended it...at least, that's my understanding of it (I could be wrong). Same thing with Naruto and the whole "filler hell" thing they had going on.

I do believe you're right about Kenshin. Or, at least, if you are wrong, then we got our faulty information from the same source. lol.

Well I mean yeah, it depends on the series I suppose...I know I like the Those Who Hunt Elves manga infinitely more than the manga (which is pretty terrible).
So, is Naruto doing the same thing FMA did with Brotherhood? I'm not following that particular anime myself, so I'm not too familiar with it.

Not really. FMA did a complete reboot all the way from the beginning, and the first FMA anime did have an ending. With Naruto, the first series just went into filler hell and went away, without an ending, and then the second series, Shippuden, picked up after the "time skip" in the manga, so it was a continuation of the first series, but its own, different series.

Here's something that some may agree with: Live action adaptations of anime. Don't get me wrong, there may be a "few" that are good (has hopes for The Last Airbender movie), but from what I've seen of other live-action anime adaptations (or at least heard about, since I have yet to actually see one) they usually turn out pretty badly. *cough*DragonBall*cough*. I know that Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't an anime, but still I hope the movie isn't gonna be like the live-action crud I've seen clips of. *They all look like BAD cosplays!!!!....or they're just bad movies as a whole.*
Examples:

While I think the DN movies are decent (and some would say that's how the series should have ended), the except for the Sailor Moon one, the rest of these are American adaptations. Movie adaptations. There are live adaptations out there, made-for-tv series, that are done in Asian countries, and can be just as good as the anime. Sometimes better (I'm looking at you, Hana Yori Dango!).

Now, I'm not making excuses for the Sailor Moon- that's a pretty poor adaptation- but the ones that do work well are the ones that don't involve magical transformations or other such special effects. For instance, Winter Sonata, Hana Yori Dango, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. All have good live-actions.

It's okay, I thought they were stupid until I figured out the slice-of-life ones that they adapted, or ones without magical powers or whatnot, were the ones to go for! (but if you think the asian version of Sailor Moon was bad, you should see what they were planning to do to it when they first brought it to the states!!!

Again, ones that take place in realistic worlds/settings are just as good. Ex: Hana yori dango, Winter Sonata, Yamato Nadechiko Shichi Henge, Liar Game (okay, this one's a manga adaptation. But it still works great as a live-action adaptation!).

O_O......*praying* Thank you God that did NOT make it to the states!

I agree that a slice-of-life anime may work just as fine when adapted live-action. Fantasy, however, not so much. >.<!
In the same vein, I'd also would like to adress another live-action adaptation of an animated show that I believe is worth mentioning.

http://www.whargarbltv.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/m.-night-shyamalans-the-last-airbender.png
I know it's not an anime, but still.

I...watched this last night...and it did NOT do the series justice AT ALL! It just was NOT a good movie in general...it's not even funny. :( I was very disappointed with this film. If the rest of the trilogy get's released, however, I will be watching them anyway. Why? Because I'm curious. I HAVE to see what happens next now, even if it may torture me. :shake: This is my opinion, some animated shows were just not meant to be live-action. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of them.

I loved the Death Note movies, and not just because I astronomically preferred the ending. The casting was superb! Tatsuya Fujiwara, the actor who plays Light, is just incredible. His voice has this deep, rich, smooth sound to it that creates an air of chilling intrigue with his every line. And Kenichi Matsuyama, the guy who plays L... MAN, where did they find that guy?! I wouldn't have thought it possible to deliver such a flawless performance for such a difficult and complex character. Other than lacking a pair of giant blue eyes, he fit the role to the tee. Plus, even though the movies had significantly less time to work with, I thought they did a lot of the plot twists and character development better than the cannon. For example:
I thought the circumstances under which Light found the Death Note were much more interesting in the movies and made me sympathize with Light much more in the beginning. In the anime/manga he just sort of randomly finds the notebook and immediately starts killing people, almost as if he was already a tyrant at heart and just hadn't found his outlet yet. In the movies, however, he hacks into the police database and finds out that lots of criminals are quite literally getting away with murder, so he goes to a shady bar to investigate this himself and has a creepy encounter with a psycho who was openly bragging about how he was released after killing a child. Then he rushes into a back alley, angry and disillusioned, and throws his pocket edition of "The Compendium of Laws" against the ground in frustration... whereafter he finds the Death Note on the ground nearby. Development on minor characters as well, though still minimal, felt a lot more complete in my opinion. Short little scenes like one where Naomi Misora quotes Genesis 2:23 to her fiancee before his death, and one where Soichiro Yagami goes into Light's room and sadly reminisces while Light is being detained, made these minor characters feel more human, more integral to the story, instead of just cannon fodder that exist only to be used as pawns in the grand scheme of Light's battle with L. And speaking of L, I thought they did a amazing job on him! They didn't really change anything about him and remained true to who he was in the canon, but in a very subtle and beautiful way they embellished his noble qualities so that a discerning viewer can detect many unseen layers of his character. And the ending of the movies, even more than the anime, made me fall head-over-heels in love with him (yes, I am a fangirl ^-^). In a nutshell, I completely agree with a quote by Anime News Network that made it onto the back cover of the second movie: "More satisfying, and with a greater feeling of closure, than its anime counterpart."
And for anyone who thinks this rant of mine was long, know that I was actually holding back considerably.

As for my anime pet peeves, um... I guess the worst one for me would be anime with a really good story that hopelessly intrigues me, but that are so full of cruddy content that I can't justify finishing them. DX

I agree with everything Chrysolite said. The Death Note movies are amazing adaptations of the anime, and anyone who liked Death Note should totally watch them.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I don't really like girls who randomly have weirdly colored hair when they're supposed to be in our world or one that doesn't have odd hair colors, and no one ever seems to notice or comment on it. It would be okay if someone was like, "Why do you have pink hair?" and she said that she wanted to be different or something. That would be okay. But to not explain it and just assume it's cool.... *is picky*
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

"There's a difference between maliciously offending somebody - on purpose - and somebody being offended by...truth. If you're offended by the truth, that's your problem. I have no obligation to not offend you if I'm speaking the truth. The truth is supposed to offend you; that's how you know you don't got it."

Just noticing this in a show I'm watching. It doesn't really bother me much, but it just makes me go, "What? Doesn't anyone think this is odd?"

Angels w/ Infinite Feathers. I swear, any time someone has angel wings, feathers just fall off and off and off...and the wings appear to be just as thickly-feathered as before. Does this enhance the ladies' enjoyment of angel guys, that they have an endless supply of feathers?

Let me guess...X? There are enough feathers floating around in that series to make pillows for the entire population of North America.

And yes, it is odd.

That makes total sense though. I mean I have a dog and she sheds and sheds but she's still just as hairy as before.

I have decided that stock footage from super robot shows gets a pass, especially when it is accompanied by up-tempo music or passionate battle cries/attack names.
