Weirdest Reason for Watching an Anime?

The real heart of CAA; discuss specific series, issues, and things related to anime here.

Well, the reason my brother and I thought FMA "might possibly be interesting" was because we saw a fanart pic of Ed holding a sword, with huge angel wings sprouting from his shoulders. We were all like, "Winged hero! Must watch!"

Naturally, we found out that Ed doesn't actually have wings, at least not in a literal sense, but we found ourselves hooked after the first episode. Actually, probably after the first scene where Ed's yelling about how "It wasn't supposed to be like this!"
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

Ranma 1/2. Only reason I watched it was because I could not comprehend how a guy could turn into a girl with just water hitting him. Won't say it's a favorite series, but I do like it quite a bit.

Last fall, I was exploring Youtube on a constent basis...and it seemed like every time I typed in a song that I really liked I would always find at least one Naruto amv that used the song (even if it was a christian artists song)...

After some time of this I began to think, "You know that an anime is popular when you can find an amv for it in every music search you run on Youtube!!!"... :comp:

...Which explains why I started watching Naruto shortly there after... :forehead:

I once bought Sorcerer Hunters from FYE (Formerly Sam Goode) because it was my very first "Complete Collection" DVD! Go figure that one, but hey, it was only about $20!

Actually, this is the main way I find anime and manga in general. Completely random or from image searches.

One of my recent includes Pita-Ten. I heard it was about a girl who's an angel and tries to help people very enthusiastically.

It didn't sound like it had a very deep plot, but after seeing Misha-chan...

"OH MY GOSH! SHE HAS BUNNY HAIR CLIPS! AND GIANT EYES WITH NO NOSE! AND THE MOST ELABORATE 19th CENTURY DRESS EVER! I HAVE TO WATCH THIS!"

And so, I fell in love with Pita-ten. The End.

Well, my friend kept bugging me about watching Higurashi... and I love it now! I watched it mostly because I wanted to see if it could scare me. It did, at least for the first arc.

Hetalia: "What is this, the characters are countries? Aww, they're cute! Eeee, history! MUST READ!" (not an anime yet, just a manga, but since it's coming out in January it counts, right? XD)

Hayate the Combat Butler: "Oooh, Hayate is a cool name. And he's adorable too! Must watch!" (so not kidding... I love the name Hayate...)

Spice and Wolf: "It's econ class and I'm bored. I know, I'll watch this anime about economics!" (I watched the first episode a while ago, but couldn't find any more eps for a long time. Then, recently, I started watching again, on my laptop during a study period in economics class. I fell in love with the series all over again and now I'm obsessed. My economics class, by the way, is useless - the periods I've spent watching Spice and Wolf have been the most educational periods of the entire semester. Haha.)

Digimon: I wanted to see the creatures that came out of cards and the main characters pointy yellow hair :D.

Pokemon: I wanted to see the cute creatures.

DBZ: I had to watch some of it when I saw that one of the characters had a tail ^^ (baby Goku?) But it didn't keep my attention span long enough for me to get into it XP

Well, mostly my motivations for watching anime are pretty normal, but I did have to think of this one.

Cowboy Bebop - My brother told me it was like Firefly, which is my favorite American TV show ever. Well, I watched the first two episodes and thought it was ok, then left it for several months, because that was all we had of it. Then one night, several weeks ago, I was playing Final Fantasy VII and just got through a bunch of very important, amazing cutscenes, and it was late at night and my sister finally kicked me out of her room. Well, I was too hyped up from the cutscenes to go to bed, and I didn't feel like watching a normal, light-beat anime, so I was looking through all my anime, and suddenly I noticed someone had gotten the rest of Cowboy Bebop. Hey, I kinda feel like watching that! I thought. So I watched about twelve episodes that night, was totally hooked, and finished the series the next day. And now it is one of my top five anime. XD

Rurouni Kenshin because my little sister's friend asked me to draw her a picture from it, and I had no idea what the show was about, and wasn't about to draw art from it until I found out. lol

I watch Le Chevalier d'Eon because of the pretty historical clothing I saw on the coverart.

I watched and subsequently bought the Read or Die OVA because two scenes were in AMV Hell 3, including but not limited to an electric-powered samurai destroying the White House.

I know what I want in my Anime and I get it.

Just because the style looks anime, doesn't mean its anime. This thread is about weirdest reason for watching an anime, not cartoons.

This thread is also over 5 years old, but hey, that's never stopped anyone.

Of course, since I spent the time to open it, read it, and reply -- I might as well throw my own out there.

I started watching Hidamari Sketch because of a single screencapture of Yuno's face.

Dai-Guard. I ran across the motto "Office Workers, Saving The World!" and had to see what in the heck kind of context would make this make sense.

And, I suppose "Mama is a 4th Grader" for the same sort of reason, with respect to the title.

Both are now big favorites (but with 'Mama' I've only seen the handful of episodes that have been fansubbed. I have looked and looked in vain for some kind of copy of this so I can watch more in .jp-go.)

"Demon Hunter Yohko" because I knew a girl named Yohko, and the image of her battling demons tickled me.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

Well, I watched Whisper of the Heart because I somehow mistook it for Grave of the Fireflies, which I've heard is a tear-jerker, and I like tear-jerkers.

Grave of the Fireflies: watched it because I heard it was double-billed with My Neighbor Totoro. I thought it would be a happy movie. Unfortunately, I was wrong, but I loved it anyway.

Kiba: watched it because one of my friends told me "This anime is based on a TCG but it's really good!" I was slightly skeptical, but after I watched Episode 1 on Toonami Jetstream, I was hooked. Never have I seen such an awesome anime based on a card game.

Mostly, I'm introduced through seeing hot people or amv's >.> But I end up knowing too much before watching, so my weird reason for looking it up isn't the same as my reason for watching it T.T

My boring reasons:

I watched Tales of the Abyss because I saw ONE piece of fanart that caught my eye. Almost months later, I still liked the fanart, and decided that clearly whatever it was, I simplyhad to watch it. And I did B)

I watched Air tv because my friend said she cried her eyes out. And I wanted to cry my eyes out.

And I have a whole long list of ones I want to watch but haven't yet for the express reason of having twisted characters.
