Some new details about One Piece at A-kon.

animeonline.com wrote:A few more details on One Piece that you may or may not know: It looks like the releases will be about 13 episodes at a time, with a suggested retail price of $49.98. These feature totally uncut footage, original Japanese score, and an all-new English voice cast. We can expect 2-3 releases a year after the first one hits later this year or early 2008. Also, FUNimation is planning some big announcement relating to this popular anime at Anime Expo.

Hmmm.. interesting. So are they going to release the episodes starting with one or will they start releasing them from the Skypiea arc?

They're also keeping the original Japanese names(again something I read at
TheOtaku).Lucy Christian and Colleen Clinkenbeard are the only ones I am familiar with.Though I would have thought it be the other way around.I have never heard
Colleen Clinkenbeard do a boy before, while I do remember that Lucy Christian did
Sasshi on Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi.

The One Piece panel at AX confirms that they will be returning to the Japanese opening and endings, as well as the original score, "Too beautiful not to [use]."

You forgot to list Brina Palencia(Eve in Black Cat, Nina in FMA, Yue in Negima!) who has been signed up to play Chopper.

I'm somewhat iffy on Ms. Clinkenbeard doing a male voice, but otherwise the cast sounds pretty decent to me.

Colleen Clickenbeard most recently was Lt.Riza Hawkeye on Fullmetal Alchemist.
Lucy Christian,as I pointed out,was Sasshi on Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi.
The fact that Ms Christian actually DID a boy's voice on MSAA is why I wondered she didn't get Luffy.Sasshi could be just as hyper as Luffy.Ok maybe not.Still..

Okay, info about the new One Piece dub from the panel at Otakon.

First of all, the voice actresses for Luffy and Chopper were there, and spoke some lines. I can confirm Chopper's voice is absolutely incredible. Luffy's wasn't bad, but Colleen did say she had been sick before the panel, so hopefully it will be even better.

There will be NO funny accents. No more Brooklyn Sanji!

The new dub was stated to start at the Skypeia arc...I'm wondering if they actually mean it'll start with Jaya, since it would be weird to just randomly start at Skypeia. At any rate, they're not dubbing the Rainbow Mist arc right now (which is where the 4Kids dub left off).

One Piece will continue to be on Toonami. What does this mean, exactly? Well, a lot. First of all:

1) All previous 4Kids names will be kept the same on the Toonami dub, i.e. Smoker is still Chaser, Ace is still Trace. The reason for this is to maintain consistency for television viewers. On the DVDs, the names will remain the same as the Japanese names. So yeah, there's LOTS of recording two sets of lines, one for the TV dub and one for the DVD dub, they said.

2) Sanji will still NOT be allowed to smoke, nor will any other character. Will the lollipop be kept? They said that's up to Cartoon Network, not them, so they don't know, but regardless, the smoking thing is TV standards, so they can't do anything about that. However, again, on the DVD, it will be unedited.

3) Blood will still be toned down, but will NOT be completely removed. Guns will also stay guns, no more super soakers or cork guns. Death will be allowed to be mentioned. But yes, the rating for the new dub will be TV PG, so they can get away with a lot more. They assured us that they will try to get away with everything that they can on TV.

4) They are working directly with Oda in every step of this new dub. Oda himself has approved all of the new voice actors for this dub, and is telling them how to do things...which means they're doing right by him. A voice for Frankie HAS been cast, but they are unable to reveal it yet.

And that's all I remember for right now. But yeah, this new dub is going to rock.

I may actually watch this now ^_^ I love Funi, it is one of the three dubbing agencies I actually trust to handle anime. They have really improved their standards from long ago.

thanks for the news, Nate! ^_^

Oh, stuff I forgot to mention.

1) Unfortunately, again due to Toonami standards, all the religious references in Skypeia will be removed in the edited dub...so Eneru won't be called God, dunno what that means for stuff like Angel Beach though. Again, though, they stressed on the DVDs, the dub will be unedited.

2) Chopper's voice will NOT change when he goes into his different Points.

And HA! I knew some people recorded the voices at the panel. Here you go, the new voice actresses for Chopper and Luffy:

And Luffy actually doing a serious line:

New voices sound brilliant. I'll need to give this series a second spin.

EDIT: Oh snap, Eric Vale is Sanji? Sonny Straight as Usopp? That's awesome.

According to Wikiepdia Kerry Williams who did Nami for 4kids used to be a ballerina before going into voice acting.

Having nothing to do with anything but an interesting factoid.

When does Nico Robin join the crew?I thought she was going to become part of the
gang after the Alabasta arch. But they haven't shown her on board the Merry Go Round as a permanent member yet.
