I don't think My best buy even sells porn in general..let alone japenese hentai titles, and in most stores arounbd where I live..the anime is almost always near the scifi and horror section of the store.

I think the lay out varies by location, 'cause there isn't any porn anywhere near the "anime section" in our store!

I used to work at Bestbuy for a 1 and half year, just left for another job. From my understanding Bestbuy tries to emplore a Standard Of oPeration (SOP) which is how the stores are layed out. Though some stores do have small variations setup to cater to what the majority seems to buy in a given area. But I have yet to see any porn or hentai. Perhaps online, but I haven't seen any inside the store- yet.

My Best Buy has their anime next to the kids/family section and near the sci-fi/action sections...

All the Bestbuys in Austin carry the animes in the same area.

But yeah, I'm not suprised that Suncoast is stocking them because it's all about $$. I can't really put all the blame on Suncoast because they wouldn't stock it in the first place if the people didn't buy it. So the people are just as guilty to blame. As long as they don't mix the hentai in w/ the other anime times I don't really care. It would be annoying if I was skimming titles and come across random hentai stuff. Keep it in a different area, and I'm cool.

Like fry's has a little blocked area w/ all adult content, and FYI here usually puts a black cover over the face of the hentai titles; although not the most effective, it's an effort. Just make an effort to keep it out of the reach of kids or the people who don't care to look at it. But yeah, like shatterheart said, it's not going away anytime soon; as long as theirs a market for it.

The sad thing about all this is that it will continue to give the impression that all
anime are by nature hentai.

I stopped shopping for anime at retail stores long ago... (I have saved hundreds of dollars buying anime online) but this doesn't even slightly surprise me. It was inevitable. Yes, porn is taking over the world. You can't even type in the name of a favorite anime series into a search engine anymore without pulling up a list of nasty sites. Sad but true.

Hi, I'm just wondering if you guys can write to your local council to complain about this? Over here in Sydney (Australia) community pressure does work if there's enough of it.

The stores I go to (JB Hi-Fi, HMV, EzyDVD) lump all the regular and hentai anime together. I think this is because they do this with movies as well, and can't be bothered sorting them out by rating, but just be title (in alphabetical order).

As far as I know though, someone who is underage but tries to buy a hentai title will be turned down at the cashier. It is the same for electronic games here at EB Games - parents of a guardian must accompany the kid and do the actual purchasing.

Still, ideally I'd like to them to stop selling such rubbish or at least put them in a high-up restricted section of a shelf.

I think as people concerned about this we need to review anime titles which contain good, constructive themes and get the word out there to people that not all anime are hentai.

Ebay isn't safe for anime... Nor is half, though I did buy Nadesico there... Someplace like "Deep Discount DVD" is better... http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com

Anyhow, to be on topic (what's that, anyhow?) I agree... I've been annoyed by this since the early days... My Suncoast had done that since they've carried anime in the mid 90's... It's really annoying... Of course, I thought back then that all anime had either extreme violence (because of watching Akira) or was full of fanservice (Project A-ko) or really sexual (because of Golgo 13) based on my friend's columbia house anime collection off sci-fi channel... The way we reconciled stuff like "Sailor Moon" and "Pokémon" in our minds was by saying the american versions were just made for little kids, but the Japanese versions were just like those other things... I was dead certain Sailormoon was R rated in its original form... And Pokemon, man... It ran red with blood... Hehehe... So, I fell victim to this ignorance perpetuated by the DVD stores...

[button="Warning about Volt's Idea"]There allready is a DVD called that, it is basically something saying Christians were responsible for the Holocaust (and in a passive way, we were, by not stopping it before it started) and talking about abortion clinic bombings and that sort of thing... So, um, that may not be the best choice of a title since it may get people buying the wrong DVD and getting one that is a total assault on Christians...[/button]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.

Well I've been to many Best Buys, Suncoasts, Media Plays, F.Y.E's and other such stores all over the US. I'm both a military brat and am now in the military myself.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread each store has a different lay out. ALL stores do care hentai/pornographic meaterial in DVD format. Now granted some stores will have them in seperate places then the regular anime.

However there are some anime that are so close to being pronographic without actually being pornographic that it twists the conecpt (ikkitousen for example). In the suncoast up here at Crystal Mall in New London Conneticut the hentai/porn is right behind the Anime Wall. So you turn around and there it is.

Now in the F.Y.E. which is literally right next door they mix the hentai in with the regular anime. Then there are the titles by Hiromeki, those "interactive games" those are all clean adaptations of hentai games. I should know I own many of the ones they release in there less then clean versions.

Now at ONE of the Best Buys in Albuquerque New Mexico. The porn is on the far end of the video's and the anime is right next to the Sci-fi section. However, in the other one its right next to. I think its a matter of association and how the store was arranged when it was first built. Remember most of the stores we go to now are running off of old configurations from when they were first built or a new manager has come and changed the arrangement.

Also in Suncoast usually the hentai/porn is near the anime section. Three different stores in three seperate states 9Conneticut, New Mexico, and Mississippi) have all had the arrangement where the anime section is near the porn section.

Part of the reasoning to this I believe is because of the views of the society of anime fans as closet geeks and weirdo's which, although become less and less the view, still widely thought of as such we are. The other being is they are often in the more out of the way spot instead of being in the most out in the open area they are usually in a back corner, or against a wall, usually with the stand that has the hentai/porn facing the wall section.

As for the comment on the malls go. MALLS HAVE NO RULES. They must appeal to every possible person. Thats why stores like Spencers and Hot Topic sell things with either sexually explicit or double meaning t-shirts or even the lack there of.

In summirization, its all about the almighty $$$. If it sells and will probably continue to do so it doesn't matter who doesn't want it around it will still be there in any store no matter how hard you wish it wasn't there.

As for the comments about online buying. The stores you buy your regular anime sell hentai also. I can pop onto Rightstuf.com and buy hentai and even hentai games jsut as easily as I can buy Mao-chan and Spirited Away. Now granted on there many catalog page there is a link thats staes "Adult Catalog" and is not part of the regular store. However, they still sell it.

As I said above, "It sells and that is all they care about."

Also if you are looking to save money on anime. DeepDiscount is not ALWAYS the lowest. There is a website called PriceGrabber.com, they take many onlien stores and even Ebay and compare there prices often times giving you one cheaper.

I bought my copy of World of Narue (really cute series by the way) for less then deep discount.

The only place I really find anime stuff here is at rental places.
Blockbuster has some hentai (or something close to it; not sure what half the titles are) as well as smut like NGE, Black Heaven, etc. 80% of the aisle is dominated by either DBZ or Horror films. The rest is Inu Yasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ruruorni, and Trigun, and a couple of films. Trigun is the only one I've seen, but I don't want to try most of them yet till I get my own DVD player.
Video Warehouse is terrible with it, though. The only ones they have (besides the 4Kids production...) are stuck in this little spot labeled "Japanamation", ALL of which are hentai. XP

Well, that's too bad. My Suncoast carries porn, so it's not too shocking. At least it's on the opposite side of the store here.

When I was at Wherehouse looking at anime, nearly half of the anime section was hentai! It's all mixed together too. Sad...

AH I haven't been to a store that didn't sale hentai/porn. While there is anime that is not flat perverted it still isn't something I think that should be in the same ailse as kids movies, but that aside I feel your grief with it. I don't like accidently picking up a DVD with a girl on the cover baring all her animated junk. I mean to go through the pains of animating such filth you truly must be a pervert to the most sickest extent.

If people put up enough fuss about it or even go as far as to arrange a large scale boycott maybe store owner/managers will be conciderate of their non-sex obsessed customers.

Porno is gonna happen sooner or later. But the mistake is going for the sellers, not the buyers. Supply and demand, economics. The more people that God reaches, the less porn we'll see.

Oh, and burning condoms? I don't think there's anything wrong with condoms . . . . but I could be wrong.

I know a very Christian man, in fact the president of the anime club I belong to, who watches hentai. I'm also p[retty sure that somewhere in each persons thoughts, although its not appropriate to be out in front in a store near where little kids are and such, but I'm pretty sure most every one at some point or another has seen something is pornographic in nature.

I will admit I have. For admitting ones sins is the first step towards salvation. However, I can also look at it in an artistic sense. Cause remember, with anime we're not dealing with real people, we're dealing with pen, paper, and more often then not these days a computer.

Call it what you will, believe what you like but it's there, and whether you are a christian, catholic, anligcan, muslim or whatever else. There will be porn in the world and people will still watch, read,, draw, and create it.

Also with the major turn in the anime industry of late, not many americans are aware of this, and the people here are prpobably a big part of this, but a lot of the really good series coming out in japan in the last couple of years have been based off of Hgames. Shingetsutan Tsukihime, Kimi Ga Nozumo Ein, Lime Colored War Balled, Kanon, AIR, etc. There are also many series that are so close to being pornographic but stay just this side of it that it blurs the boundry. Ikki Tousen being a prime example.

27 "You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.' 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. - Matthew 5:27-28

That verse is pretty clear to me. If you look at a woman with lustful intentions, that's adultery. Whether the object of lust is real or not. If I imagine a woman in my head and think lustful thoughts about her, that's adulterous, regardless of if she exists or not.

With that said, let me also state that it's very dangerous. If you are into pornography or hentai and you are in a marriage, your wife is going to feel very inadequate and inferior. "I can't fulfill all his needs. I'm not attractive enough." It's going to make her feel like crap, dude. And saying, "Oh, I'll quit once I get married." Doesn't work that way. Ask anyone who was hardcore addicted to porn, marriage doesn't change a thing.

And yes, I SUPPOSE it's possible to watch hentai without thinking lustful thoughts, but c'mon...let's be serious. Hentai and porn is meant to inspire lust, which is sinful. And as Christians, we are supposed to be dead to sin, as we have accepted Christ into our lives to change us.

And you're right, Anime Man, porn is always going to be in the world so long as people want to watch it. You can't go for the sellers, because they're making money off of it, and they're not going to stop doing things that earn them a profit. It requires us to change the hearts of the people. If people learn to hate porn, then they won't buy it, and then it won't make the sellers money, and then it will disappear. Yes, I know. It isn't going to happen. BUT, that's not the point. We're still commanded to do it.

"Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." - James 4:17

If you mean the OVA, that's 17+ I believe (unless this is a rating system for another country than the USA). "Trust" was exceptionally gory, but had a 17+ rating, The Movie was rated 17+ and wasn't that bad.

I'm under the impression that stuff rated for violence gets a 17+ while stuff rated for explicit sex is 18+. Of course now with ADV's new system, it's TV-MA.

Mod note: as a preemptive note before this thread diverges, anyone who feels that they need to publicly defend hentai, etchi or whatever as not being morally wrong will be looking at the wrong end of the ban cannon. We're up front and clear about why they aren't tolerated, and we're tired of threads getting diverted into the morality of such when we already believe it's totally obvious. If you disagree, please keep it to yourself.

To be on topic: I can understand your disappointment, though I do feel that it was inevitable and not that surprising.

If I recall correctly (and I could be wrong), that distinction exists only in the English text. The original word used would be closer to "fornication" instead of "adultery" (if we are to split hairs about definitions), which makes that distinction irrelevant.

You answered the question yourself; you're not married to them. The Bible is very clear that men and women are to remain chaste for their marriage and to even totally give up sex if God calls you to that. If you're not married to them, their body is off limits, as is fantasizng about it.

That passage also goes on to mention that if you hate someone in your heart, you've murdered them. So are those the only 2 sins you can commit in your heart? No, of course not. Jesus used those 2 as examples.
