When the anime club started that I had belong to (Before its demise lately) the club President had all of the Salior Moon series in Japanese with subtitles on video tape and showed the first season for the members. We also saw the movies. He told us the series would had ended with the first season but the fans wanted it to continue so the "R" series was the resurrection of Sailor Moon and the Scouts after the big fight and death of the charactors.
Never got to see the Stars series.
I would wonder what Sailor Moon would be like if it was redone using the anime styles used today?

Oh yeah... I have great fondness for Sailor Moon. Have all the uncut Japanese stuff. My order of preference would be:
Original Season
Sailor Moon S
Sailor Stars
Sailor Moon Super S
Sailor Moon R

Not that I will harp on you for it...but you put R below Super S? O.O

My order of preference is:

Sailor Moon S

Sailor Stars

Sailor Moon R

Original Season

Sailor Moon Super S

Mostly because Super S was the worst season...too much focus on the Spore (Chibiusa). It also completely ignored the previous season regarding high school entrance exams (they weren't even mentioned, even though S revolved around the study sessions). Also, there were WAY too many plot contrivances to bring Chibiusa and Usagi together at the last second to transform together.

Rather than, y'know, spend MONEY and make separate transformations for them, they would resort to stupid plot contrivances...sigh. This is why I hated Super S.

I never hated SuperS, but it certainly wasn't my favorite season either. I actually never disliked any season of Sailor Moon. My order would be:

1. Sailor Stars
2. Sailor Moon (1st season)
3. Sailor Moon S
4. Sailor Moon R
5. Sailor Moon SuperS

SuperS was my least favorite, but I do enjoy it greatly (which speaks of how much I truly love the other seasons). Actually, I've seen every Sailor Moon anime release there is, including the three movies, the "lost episode" of Sailor Moon R (episode 67), Ami's First Love, and the SuperS specials. I never saw the theatrical short that released with the R movie, but there was no original animation in it anyway, so I haven't missed out.

Anyone here seen every rlease of Sailor Moon anime? Ami's First Love fans? Which SuperS special was your fave? (Mine was the "haunted house" special.)

Everyone has their own opinions of course, but to my mind R was the worst series because despite some very good emotional highs, the series was too long for the material. The doom tree should have been reduced, and I knew how the Dark Lady arc was going to turn out well before it did.

Super S wasn't good either (though it had comedy going for it), but I didn't have as many negative feelings for it as I did for R

my order of prefrence...

Stars
S
Super S
Original series
R

I know a lot of people are like "O_O" for me putting Super S so high, but for me it's kind of nostalgic, because S and Super S were the first seasons of Sailor Moon I ever saw. I didn't really mind Chibi-Usa's role in Super S that much; there were episodes where her presence was annoying, but for the most part I found her MUCH less annoying than she was in R. The music of Super S was rather good (I love the second ending theme "Rashiku Ikimasho") the animation was high quality, there were a few episodes that I think really stood out in the series (such as the episode where Ami received her Crystal Power attack) and the 6 part finale of the series was pretty good. But for me the main reason I like Super S is the villains. I think the Amazon Trio and Quartet were some of the most well developed "generals" in any season and they provided a lot of humor through their general personalities and methods of attack. Queen Nehelenia was also a pretty good final enemy. I didn't find R as interesting as the other seasons mostly because of the villains. The Doom Tree villians were cool (although that arc probably was a few episodes too long) but I didn't really connect with any of the Dark Moon villians. I also think Chibi-usa was WAAAAY more annoying in R than in any other season, mostly due to the fact that at least in S and Super S she had something to contribute to the Sailor Team, while the majorty of R seemed to consist of her just being bratty and in the way. And the final battle between the soldiers and Wiseman/Death Phantom in R seemed really rushed and anti-climactic.

Like others have stated here, Sailor Moon is what got me started in anime. I used to be a huge fan but I don't really watch it anymore (I need to get rid of all those tapes I recorded). I think I want to get the box set for the first season just so I can have the final battle with Queen Beryl and maybe the boxset of the movies. I can't watch the part of SuperS with the Amazon Trio in it anymore, something about it disturbs me now.

Well, yeah, the Doom Tree thing was pretty pointless...I won't go into the history of it, as I'm sure any Moonie worth their salt already knows the story behind it. ]I also think Chibi-usa was WAAAAY more annoying in R than in any other season, mostly due to the fact that at least in S and Super S she had something to contribute to the Sailor Team, while the majorty of R seemed to consist of her just being bratty and in the way.[/QUOTE]
Oh, don't get me wrong...I didn't mind the Spore in S. She was there mostly as comic relief (and as a way for my darling Hotaru-chan to get into the story ^^). Her Pink Sugar Heart Attack was HILARIOUS.

But in SuperS...she spins around and rings a stupid bell? Boring. Not funny at all...and all it does is make more stock footage so that the animators can skimp on storyline...the whole "Twinkle Yell/Whatever Sailor Moon's Attack was" (shows you how much I like about SuperS, can't even remember the attack name) took WAY too long. I thought Moon Spiral Heart Attack was a lengthy attack sequence, but it had nothing on the waste of time that was summoning Pegasus and doing the attack.

Maybe the fact that Fish Eye is queerer than a three dollar bill? Heck, even Zoisite wasn't THAT bad. That's another mark against SuperS, for me.

Wow, there's actually another person like me who was willing to record every episode of Sailor Moon shown on the Cartoon Network (plus the movies) onto VHS. Now that's true fandom, right, plutogrl?

It was a great ride watching Sailor Moon subbed (I saw everything, incl Stars and Ami-Chan's first Love). The story is the same for 200 episodes, but what made it great for me was the comedy and the fact that they didn't take themselves seriously, making fun of their routine actions (see the Senshi trying to pose in a narrow alley or having them give a speech only to find out that the villain left in the middle or to see Tuxedo Kamen miss his musical cue  ). Loved it. Liked Season 1, Sailor Moon S and Stars the best.

I saw the regular series when I was something like 12 or so, and it was entertaining at the time. Now, though, it seems rather old hat and cheesy. Of course, as an acquaintance of mine commented, when you're a kid, Transformers looks like Gundam.

So far I've only seen about one minute of one episode total. However I have been to several Sailor Moon fansites on the internet and am currently addicted to the Sailor Moon sprite comic at Silent Moon Anime Store. :thumb:
When I was into Voyager I found out that Scarlet Pomers who played
Naomi Wildman on the show was a big Sailor Moon fan.
Hmmm Sailor Moon vs. The Borg!
btw:Has anyone else ever noticed that Sailor Moon and Pokemon seem to be the two series that all anti-anime sites seem to always focus on the most?

If you've seen the original Gundam, that statement isn't a very good comparison.

But, I digress (feel free to flame if you wish, though, Gundam fans),

As much as the original DiC dub changed Sailor Moon, we should still be thankful for it. Sailor Moon would never have been aired on US TV as it was made, and how many people have stated in this thread that Sailor Moon was one of their first experiences with anime? That makes its contribution rather significant.

The disappointment expressed about the dub is valid, and I agree, but I also like to keep in mind the hard road anime had to travel to gain acceptance here in the US. So, I am thankful for those who did what it took to get shows like Sailor Moon, Robotech, and Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets on the air in the US. I am also very thankful for the uncut subtitled versions, so we can see those shows as they were intended.

A very valid point about Sailor Moon, termyt.

However, this Gundam fan must now flame you. Actually, I agree that the animation is dated for that first Gundam (it was in 1979, y'know), but the story is phenomenal!

So, yes, Sailor Moon rocks (and Gundam rocks, too, but that's off-topic  ).
