If the dub is bad the dub is bad. >> I love anime and I'd be dedicated, that doesn't make me a good voice actor worthy of praise.

I said to call ALL Dubs. I agree that some dubs are probably bad.

Ah, sorry. Misread that, then.

I think one of the most revealling things about dub quality is that even today, people talk about the quality of Cowboy Bebop dub as an example of a good one (and I'll admit it was), but this anime was dubbed back in Y2K-- or 5 years ago and nothing done in the last five years to equal it in quality. Why?

I think the only place I can tolerate dubs is in Jackie Chan movies where the interesting stuff is visual. Partially the bad acting in so many, but largely the excessive editing of dialogue to fit time or mouthflaps. They tend to distort the original meaning.

Most of the anime that I've heard, aside from stuff like 4kids hackjobs, have been just fine dubbed in my opinion. Now I'll admit that I haven't seen near as much anime as many of you.
I have had a few issues with characters sounding older that they are actually supposed to be but generally speaking, the dubs I've listened to have been satisfactory.
Of course, I might change that opinion if I listened to more subs but...

At any rate, there are a lot of very good talents in the current American voice acting industry.

I hated subbed until I started watching Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and Full Moon wo Sagashite on it.... now I don't mind.....
Don't even get me started on how badly they ruined Tokyo Mew Mew when dubbing it... ><

I suppose, although Dubbing does tone it down, subs, well are translatable enough, but I really don't care which I watch that much, I like them both!

Well, you realize that most DVDs are dual language right?
In my experience, most fansubs are not reliably translated compared to a good portion of the pro translations.

Take Azumanga Daioh: I had the fansubs from before ADV had the rights. Filled with 4-letter words, mistranslations and other flaws. The ADV version actually catches a lot of the subtle puns that are slipped into normal dialogue.

...of course, I'm annoyed that ADV either overlooked or chose to ignore the "chinsuko" and "ukoncha" jokes from the class trip to Okinawa in both the manga and the anime (left out of translation notes)

Now, I present to you an example of the best dub ever. When I say "best", I mean so bad that it's good.

NOTE: You need Flash to play this, and turn the volume up high.
