Let's just totally drop the subject altogether, okay? Back on topic.

As for me, I absolutely LOVE and wholeheartedly recommend Detective Conan...
This story is about a brilliant high-school student who, through a turn of events, turned into a seven-year-old kid again! Now he must find the men who made him like this and turn them in. However, there are many mysteries to solve along the way. There ARE some blood, as there is in any mystery/detective stuff, but nothing too horrible. Definitely nothing like sex or yaoi or yuri--just your average friends relationships.
It's got pretty good morals in it, too. Some may say that this show practically tells you how to kill someone, but those methods are seriously far-fetched! I wouldn't worry about that. But Conan (the main character, the detective, obviously) keeps stressing the fact that no matter what the reasons are, there is no excuse for killing. In fact, he said that even if it was his best friend who had committed a crime...
"Even if it was Agasa-hakase...? I...would bravely stand up in front of everyone and point at him, saying 'It was YOU!'...because I would fight for what is right..."
Another quote...
"I just can't understand why people want to kill each other! No...I can understand their reasoning, but I can't agree with them at all...I can't agree..."
Basically, this is my favorite for the above reasons. Oh yeah, the plot and storyline keep you on your toes! The sad thing is you can only get fansubs as of now. Next year (I think in spring) it will be officially released in America. Look out for it! ^^
I wish, grasping the cross on my chest,
That in the morning, hope will rain down on you
That at night, a gentle light will envelop you
And give you the courage to face tomorrow.

Wow, sounds cool. I'm not normally a big detective/mystery fan (so far I prefer mixed genres: i.e. like Trigun and Cowboy Bebop that have a little of several genres thrown in at one point or another) but I think I might look into Detective Conan and Noir. Both sound cool. :)

Not sure if anyone has mention these ones, but thought I'd suggest them. ^__^

Fruits Basket has become one of my all-time favorite anime. There's just four volumes out--good if you're short on cash, but I hope they'll come out with another season. It's about Tohru Honda, a girl who recently lost her mother. Not wanting to intrude on her friends, she decides to live in a tent on her own, but stumbles upon a house and finds out she's camping on the Souma land. The house belongs to Shigeru, a whacky, lovable, Novelist, and subdued Yuki, who is the "prince" of her school with his own fan club. Through some circumstances, they end up taking care of her when she's sick and invite her to stay with them but she discovers their family curse when Kyo, the outcast of the family with a huge temper crashes the house to pick a fight with Yuki and he turns into a cat on her! The curse is that whenever they are hugged/embraced (even accidentily hehe) or their body is under a lot of stress, they transoform into an animal of the Zodiac.

Each character is unique and lovable (except maybe the head of Souma House >,< But hey, you need a bitter mean guy in every story, right?). Tohru herself is a very admirable character. Though the curse gives for a lot of humorous instances, its still a curse and a burden, and through being herself, she ends up touching every one around her. There's some good lessons and its an overall sweet anime. Comedy, romance, drama.

Oh, Chance Pop Session is a short, good anime series (3 DVDs). Very clean, it's about three girls who dream of being pop singers and end up finding a lot more in pursuit of their dream. ^_^

The greatest of these which is love." - 1 Corinthians 13:13

Umm I dunno if these anime titles are already mention but here are my suggestions.

Sakura Wars 1 and 2- composed primarily of females (who has strong psychic powers) who operated mechas to destroy demons and protect the city... on the other hand they also perform plays on stage. There's a bit violence but there's also lots of fun especially how these characters interact to each other. The animation is nice and characters are lovable. Personally, what I like in this anime are the songs and plays they perform (live, anime or game). They even have a song for Christmas entitled Kiseki no Kane.

Sakura Wars 3 Paris Hanagumi - this time different girls are introduced (but the same mission) The lead character is a novice nun (but surprisingly she is clumsy and always trips or falls). There's this one character who is called the 'The Devil of Paris', she is really BAD (cause she's a criminal and a *censored*). But as the story (in the game) goes you'll get her softer side. There's also a lot of character development here.

Bubblegum Crisis 2040 - if you like punk, rock, bikes and a lot of sentai mecha. Here's an anime that suits your taste. Again, this anime is composed primarily of women. But to rate this it would be PG-13 due to some sexy scenes, slight nudity, violence and bad words. It's a bit dark and disturbing at some point. But it also holds a question to everyone's mind as to When will man stop playing God? (Anyway, what I like in this anime is the art, characters and music.)

I own a few episodes of Bubblegum Crisis 2040 and it's really not too bad. While it's not my genre personally, I'd pretty much agree with your assessment of it above (some painfully obvious fanservice but otherwise straightforward girl mecha), and some portions of it can be pretty thought-provoking.

 oh sorry to confuse you.

Sentai - um... action heroes like Power Rangers, Masked Rider, Maskman, Bioman. They usually go in groups with official colors...

Hentai - the adult stuffs.

Ugh... It's so hard to find an anime that doesn't have nudity, violence, swearing, or occult. Every time I think I've found one, it goes and ruins itself... But I have found one that's near perfect: Dai-guard. It has great animation, the characters have great personalities, and so far (I have the first two DVDs) the story is good. The only downsides are that there is some mild innuendo, and some language (which is basically what earned the +12 rating). Also, Kenshin is a good show too (only some eastern religion, and I've heard the un-cut has swearing).

For straight-up action anime, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is an awesome film. So is Spriggan.
The old Dragon Ball stuff is good, too. Better in my opinion than DBZ, because it has a better, more flowing storyline. DBZ tends to get a bit repetetive.

Thanks, Kite. You're right.

Gabriel, the original point of this thread is to list good anime. "Good" as in safe, like Kite mentioned. Those aren't titles we could consider family friendly.

No, I mean the original Gundam show. I'll just put it up now.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM, a personal favorite of mine. The original gundam show, it kickstarted the phenomon.

Hey, a Conan fan!!!!

I love Detective Conan, especially the manga. Despite the showcase of murders, extortion, wicked stuff ppl do etc, the morals and messages are good. I'm probably gonna repeat what BlueLily said hehe...

First, the author nevers excuse these wicked acts.

"Even if so and so did something bad to you, it doesn't give you the right to kill him/her. It doesn't change the fact that what you did is still wrong. You have to accept the consequence of your actions now."

Shinichi, the detective always seeks the "truth" and fights for justice. No compromises. All criminal actions are "bad" (despite the intentions behind it) and have negative consequences, and thus, crime is not made attractive.

Secondly, I love the relationships and characters indepth. Romantic relationship are clean, sweet and touching (it's quite rare to see this in shoujo comics). There's much family involvement, student-teacher, colleagues...so far, most are healthy relationships. Nothing potentially sexually offensive except for one or two panty scenes. But seriously, this is NOTHING compared to what we seen in other titles. Most of the women characters are smart, strong, brave and have admirable traits (quite rare once again). And BTW, the guys are pretty cool, admirable and hot as well. hehe

>Another quote...
>"I just can't understand why people want to kill each other! No...I can >understand their reasoning, but I can't agree with them at all...I can't >agree..."

That's one of my fav. quotes..I think Shinichi also says that "While he can explain how someone kills someone, he sometimes cannot understand or explain why someone would do it." And he has such a sad expression while saying this. I like how Gosho portray how while Shinichi is thrilled to solve a case, he is also saddened by the reason it happened.

My thumbs up for Conan! :thumb:

I've read some Detective Conan manga scans on the internet. It was pretty good. I can see why it's popular in Japan(300+ episodes).

I read somewhere that Funimation has picked up the license to it.

Some of the murders are pretty brutal which is, I believe, why it hasn't been licensed before now.

DRAGONBALL: Not to be confused with 'Dragonball Z' this is the original Akira Toriyama series. It contains some fanservice, no direct nudity however.
