Anime voice actors, casting for audio sff books?

Postby JasonPratt » Tue Sep 26, 2006 5:48 am

It just occurred to me this morning, that VAs dubbing for anime may very well be doing voice work elsewhere, too. Aside from American (or other) animated works, it specifically occurred to me that they could be doing parts in full (or abridged) audio productions of novels.

Anyone have any positive verification of this?

And/or: are there VAs you'd like to hear as characters in an audio production of novels? (Maybe restricting to sf/f novels, as the genre would more closely match most anime.)

Not verification, but I've thought similar things. XD In Spanish 2 last year, I could have sworn that the English speaker's voice on the Spanish practice tapes we listened to in class belonged to Kirby Morrow. XD

Do you mean books on tape, or more of a radio drama sort of thing?

I can't confirm any anime VAs doing books on tape off the top of my head, but I do know that often anime VAs do other voice over work, like TV ads....I wouldn't be surprised if some anime VA did do books on tape or radio dramas...

Go to Anime News Network and look up just about any North American VA in the
Enclyopedia and they'll have at least a few non-anime titles that they've worked on.

I don't think they list audio books, though, which is what I think Jason's asking for.

Well, I meant audio dramatizations (not just reading the book for audio, though that might be interesting too. :) )

Also, I think it's kind of fun to speculate about what kind of voices we'd like to "hear" playing characters. {shrug!} :)

(Besides, as a publisher the topic may come up a few years from now in a more directly practical way... ;) rats, didn't quite get the emoticon I wanted there... )
