I saw this movie a long time ago... be4 i really knew what anime is... i remeber..well a lot of missing limbs and heads when people got shot with arrows,, er something... anyway is this a kids movie ou know like
G,PG, PG-13?
please! its driving me crazy!

Are you talking about Princess Mononoke? It's a film by Hiyao Miyazaki. It's PG-13 and it's one of his best films, IMHO.

Princess Monoke is terrific, just like all the Miyazaki films, but I personally prefer Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away.

I'm a big fan of Mononoke, though Spirited Away is my favourite Miyazaki film.

PG 13? so i see! was for the violence? or was there language? i dont remember... but spirited away is my faveorite! i wathed it just last night. but the rental store only had VHS so it shows up reall grainy in my 65'' mistsu *sob*
dont they know alot of us probly have dvd players??? *grr*

Woah. I didn't even know they had SA out on video tape. That's just disturbing. Sorry your video store's odd, Ruroken.

The blockbuster down the street from here only has DVDs. Well, there's a tiny little VHS section. At the back of the store. Actually, I haven't been there in a while. I don't watch many movies. And I have lots of friends from whom I can borrow anime... Hmm... You know, there's this show I've been wanting to watch... :sweat:

Ah, Princess Mononoke! Yes, it's a GREAT movie. I personally liked Spritied Away better, which I got on VHS. Unfortunately for me, I shared it with my young nieces by letting them borrow the tape... They've become addicted to the movie, watching it nearly every day (as kids do with movies they really like), and I seem to be unable to get my tape back...

Oh you're breaking my heart here...

let me intorduce you to my 19" Zenith... those knobs on the side of the TV, that's how they used to switch channels before remote controls. :grin:

On a few occasions I was going to rent Spirited Away (I think I'll just buy it eventually), but the DVD copy is gone, much like some of the other movies... people steal that stuff left and right, the only thing is that my Blockbuster is too lazy to pull the empty DVD case off the shelf when the DVD turns up missing.

Hmm.. Miyazaki also had made another film about some girl who lived in a post-apocalyptic world full of giant insects. Too bad i've forgotten its name, but from what I've gathered from Mononoke, SA and that movie was that Miyazaki likes to reflect on how pollution and humans in general are ruining the environment. Probably has to do with the high pollution rate in Japan during its high-growth era.

Mononoke is great... It's definately violence that netted the PG-13... The violence is pretty pronounced in Mononoke...

It is one of the most beautiful anime ever made, though...

There were also other images of .. well, it's not really violence, but some of the animal god scenes were obviously not something to show a younger kid. I think it deserved the PG-13 rating. I'm not a Miyazaki fan at all, but that one was cool.

Yeah, Princess Mononoke was pretty gruesome in parts... and it had some disturbing themes. I would NOT recommend it to a younger viewer, but I would recommend it to a mature viewer who isn't bothered by graphic violence.

i just watched monoke this morning. yeah it was gruesom and had the d word once or twice. who is the princess? all i see is San and prince ashitaka. it was a very good movie and my youngest bro wasnt bothered at all

It is a great movie, although there are some gross scenes (not gory, just gross). So, if you don't like that sort of thing, this might not be the movie for you, although it is probably worth sitting through those scenes to see the rest of the movie.

The Kodamas are the coolest.

Hey the one your talking about is "Nausicaa Valley Of The Wind." I haven't seen it yet but I will if I can find it anywhere. Mononoke is a great movie. Great animation and stuff...It's really cool.

Close. The princess San lives in the forest with her wolf mother and brothers and they want to protect it from the humans who want to dig up the forest for iron. But I'm really not good with summaries. -_-'
By the way, what are all of Miyazaki's films? I want to see them all!

I would add the part about prince Ashitaka, who his the real main character despite the name of the movie. He lives peacefully in his village until a demon attacks. He kills it, but is infected by it in the process. The infection is kind of vague, but it appears to some sort of physical manifestation of evil. So, Ashitaka has to search for a cure. Along the way, he meets princess San. That's about all I can say without giving away the story.
