Having passing references or allusions to Christianity doesn't make something Christian... Otherwise Ed Gein and Se7en would be Christian...

A certain do-not-discuss show is filled to the brim with biblical references, and Final Fantasy 6 and 10 have references to either the Bible or associated Christian Icons, but in a decidedly non-christian way... Then of course, there are groups out there like the Moonies that use the Bible, likely far more than even that one show that must not be named, and they are definately not Christian... So, yeah, that means absolutely nothing... I don't think there are any real Christian anime... Not even Osamu Tezuka's Biblical Anime, because he just made an anime out of something he considered to be an interesting story...

Than being the case, there aren't very many Christian movies in the US (or australia or England or New Zealand or Fiji or India or Canada or any other country that has a large number of English speakers) and most of the ones that exist aren't good, so why should we expect any in Japan?

As for Manga, there are Christian Manga in both the US and in Japan... A few famous Christian novels have been turned into Manga, and then there's the Manga-ka here... So there we have it...

Hey, Anime Dad...can you use PayPal in Australia? Here in the US it can be hooked into a checking account. Secondly, I know that in the US Amazon.com gives a user the option of writing a check and sending it in for payment...does Amazon have a localized Australian version? If you can trust any store online, you can trust Amazon. My experience has been that on the rare occasions they don't get it right, they'll make it right.

The last thing would be to check and see if anyone is starting up online DVD rental services in Australia, they are a major growth business here in the USA from Netflix and Blockbuster Online.

JB Hi-fi is a good place to buy anime. Australia doesn't have our own Amazon and Paypal is often accepted in Australia.

I second W4J, JB Hi-Fi is a great place to buy anime. However, a good online store is here: http://www.avchannel.com.au/index.php This is where I got my Gundam Wing selection from. (btw, am I allowed to put up that link? I'm not trying to sell anything, its just that I know it is a reliable place to get anime from in Australia)

Edit: You can also get manga there, though I havent bought a manga series myself

Nadesico is a personal favorite of mine. It's no worse than most anime (some swearing, a wierd father-daughter relationship, and a buttocks in one brief scene.)

It's hilarious.

OK, i've watched a bit of Cowboy Bebop, I reallly like it. It's a lot better than some of the TV programs we're being served up in Australia, that's for sure. The music is great! Love it. I've also seen the first episode of Trigun, and while it's not as good as Cowboy Bebop, it's pretty good. My son loves it, or what he's seen sofar anyhow. The opening music is awesome! Best music i've heard for a TV show for a long time.

I've looked in local stores for Last Exile, no luck sofar.

Thanks for the link Talame, I also found http://www.madman.com.au which seems to sell the same stuff for the same price.

I've also found that EB Games and EZY-DVD sell a selection of anime. Not much, and it's pretty expensive compared to other stuff they sell. Why is it that places like Sanity can discount blockbuster movies, but not anime?

I've also downloaded a few episodes of the Sailor Moon live action show, subtitled in English. I doubt this will ever get dubbed.... It's very cheesy, but my two girls love it.

I guess you could say i've become an anime fan too.... now to convert my wife ;)

Madman supplies AV Channel, I think... Perhaps they are even the same company ;)

Btw, with Trigun, I just thought I'd warn you that it does get a bit strange (the reason why I stopped watching it). There is a character, Legato, who can communicate telepathically, and who can also take control of people.

Anime Dad - JB Hi-Fi probably sell anime for the cheapest, but often only by 1 dollar or so. EB Games and Ezy-DVD are expensive places, especially EB Games.

Sometimes JB Hi-Fi do have bigger discounts though. I got Cowboy Bebop: The Movie for 17 bucks. Usually it's 37 dollars.

Also, if you intend to get boxed sets, it's better to wait for the whole series to come out before getting it in one go. You save more money that way.

For example, a typical anime with a collector's box would go for close to 40 dollars. The series may have 5 volumes. So that's 40 + 30 x 4 = 160.

The '30' is because most volumes in a series sell for that much, as opposed to stand-alone anime which goes for around 36-37 dollars.

When the boxed set comes out they usually go for 130, or even less.

Cheers :)

Hey there, it's good to see a parent getting into anime and trying to understand it for their kids, lol. My folks could care less about the fandom and don't try and understand it at all. However, I really do love it and I've been getting my little sisters into it. They're ten and eleven so I know what it's like to have to be careful about what you let them see. I get them into some of the shows on Cartoon Network on [adultswim] here in the States and they are really enjoying them. I haven't gotten them into Samurai Champloo (by the people that did Cowboy Bebop) or Paranoia Agent because those can be very questionable if you look at them from a Christian and appropriate-for-children perspective (despite how much I love both of them). But most of the [adultswim] series are good and there are tons of other good series ou there too. I'll list a few...

- Fullmetal Alchemist is a fun show and is one on adultswim that I've gotten my sisters into. I absolutely adore it and so do they. There is a little bit of cursing but considering how the main character is fiteen/sixteen, there isn't all that much. There is also a bit of graphic violence which isn't all that graphic, especially if you watch CSI (lol, that show creeps me out sometimes with how graphic it is... >>;...) and Cowboy Bebop. It's pretty fast paced, it's got a lot of character interaction and character growth... it's a really easy series to get into. It's currently the most popular series in the US, I think, even beating InuYasha in the ratings here and there.

- Galaxy Railways is a series that I just picked up that I'm very much enjoying. I initially got it because I know the guy who directed part of the series, but after watching the first episode, I just fell in love. It's a really old school kind of anime. I know a lot of people will remember Galaxy Express 999 and many will agree that it was their first anime (that's another good one you should check out too). But this series is about a young man who is following in his father and brother's footsteps to work for the Space Defense Force and protect the galactic railways. It's really a good series.

- Generator Gawl is an over all fun anime. It's only thirteen episodes long and you can pick it up for pretty cheap in a box set from ADV Films. One of my favorite actors is in it and I had my friend let me borrow it. Absolutely had a blast watching it. Gawl is such a dork and the whole interactions between him and his friends and everything are great.

- Trigun is one of those good versus evil stories that everyone should see. It's about a guy with a huge bounty on his head because trouble always seems to find him. He's rumored to be an expert and deadly gunman, but hardly ever fires a shot and never takes a life. It's a very good serires, very little graphic nature, and you'd enjoy it as well.

Other anime to check out: Kodocha, Planetes, Naruto (coming soon), Full Metal Panic and Fullmetal Panic FUMOFFU, DNAngel, Fuits Basket, InuYasha (though I hate it XD), Kenshin, Spiral, Orphen, Wolf's Rain (a little graphic but it's probably okay if you watch Cowboy Bebop), Voice of a Distant Star (movie), Outlaw Star, s-CRY-ed (even though, again, it's not a favorite of mine), Case Closed.... etc, lol.

Hope this thread has helped you guys find a series that you can both enjoy. ^_^

The easiest way to find appropriate anime's is to read reviews and check the ratings on the back of the books. That is how I ind all of my clean stuff.
