Alice wrote:I watched the first episode again with the original english dub. I like Ivan's voice much better, but I didn't think Ginray (sp?) was as good. She sounded much angrier. Anyway. ...Don't know.
Now I'm off to hopefully watch the 2nd ep with my bro.
Promise to tell you people what I think... whether you want me to or not.
Impact Alberto wrote:*Ginrei, or Gin-Rei.
Hurray, more (hopefully) GR fans! : D
Trust me, you absolutely have to watch all 7 episodes in order to really "get" the series.
Both dubs are a mixed bag. Some voices are good (Chuujo's) and some are awful (Murasame's).
Alice wrote:I'd be glad to rent and watch episode three today, but my brother and I kind of agreed ahead of time to rent Fruits Baskets over my BD week, and watch as much of that as we could. (Someone at the video store packaged the whole series together.)
However, I can't wait to see the rest. I hope there's more character motivation gone into. I'll probably buy the third DVD with birthday money. (They don't have it at the video rental store.)
I see resemblances to G Gundam, whether they're real or not. (The horse. The guy with the beads.)
Which one is Chuujo?
Is the Frenchman's voice that bad?
Uh, that's all I can think to say. Kinda tired...
Alice wrote:Yeah, well if it keeps getting better, not worse, I'll probably love it!
Okay, I recognize the guy with the pipe. I just didn't know his name.
Oh, I figured Murasame was supposed to be French, and they just gave him a Japanese name. (Sometimes people do that in shows. I didn't pay any mind.) He does look sorta French. Sorta.
I really like the music. But sometimes it obscured the words. (Lots of DVDs seem to do that, though.)
The only boring part of the episode, I thought, was all the catch-up at the beginning.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll continue to give a long, boring blow by blow of what I think of the show.
Impact Alberto wrote:The soundtrack is widely considered to be one of the best ever. I have the entire first CD (If you have AIM, I can send it).
The reason for the digest of episode one at the beginning is simple... Giant Robo took about 6 to 8 years to be finished, and there was roughly a year in between episodes, so they had to add in some recap.
And it's not boring to me, because I hardly ever get to gush about GR, since hardly anyone has seen it. Aside from myself, ZIPO, and now you.
Keep on truckin'.
Alice wrote:Actually I don't know what AIM is. Is that a kind of instant messenger?
Yeah, I figured it was something like that, but since I'd rewatched the first episode only an hour or so, I thought it was quite boring.
Truckin' Yep.
Alice wrote:Well, I watched the third episode with my taller brother last night. ^-^
It seemed too short! (Probably because all weekend we were watching lots of stuff, and yesternight we watched only one short episode.)
I just want to know what happens now!
Anyway, in other news, great subs, Impact.
I knew you lived in Florida, but I didn't know you owned a pizza shop up Nawth with "Alberto's" in the title.
SirThinks2Much wrote:it...seems that I've been expected...
I bought it, yup. Initially I planned to watch 1 ep a night, like the show says, for 7 days....
Once I started Disc 3 I couldn't stop. XD
Currently, I am re-watching the entire series, this time in the original English dub. (sub rocked!!) I adore the original dub. Hanzui's voice in the dub is my fave. I dETEST the new dub (the guy who does Yami Yugi as GENYA!?!? what were they THINKING!?!? don't get me started)
Fave character(s): eh...Hanzui, Genya, Youshi and of course, Lord Alberto the Impact (in the dub he's "Shocking Alberto" and in the new dub he's just "alberto"...GOSH)
Fave scene(s): the finale, and the destruction of Paris
Fave music...bit...thing...: the Baroque-esque thing played right before Alberto and Taiso duke it out for the second time.
That's all for now! Thanks IA!

I just got an manga called "Gigantor." It looked sorta fun, and it was marked down.
Anyway, I looked through and I was shocked. It ... it looks kinda like Giant Robo. I mean, there's a guy with Murasame hair (and I mean, "Murasame hair!" It's exactly the same.) There is, of course, the requisite kid who controls the robot. But there's *also* a guy with a moustache and something metallic-looking over his eye. And on about the seventh page there are people wearing the Big Fire mask.
So, I checked the authors: Ben Dunn, David Hutchinson, Ted Nomura. And copyrighted 2003. But... in the back was a page of writing by the person who invented the robot story, after WWII, in the 60s I believe.
So.... I checked online, and found out something about the animation. But, that doesn't explain why there is a "new" Gigantor manga (when it was originally written as a manga). Nor does it tell me if the "new" authors just copied Giant Robo, or if they copied the original manga.
I'm hoping someone knows! Please tell me if you do.
Sorry for the discombobulation of this post, but... I need to know!
